I second the Cooley High recommendation! Michael Schultz has never gotten the credit he deserves as a groundbreaking African-American director in Hollywood. He went on to do iconic films like Car Wash, The Last Dragon & Krush Groove. I feel like people haven't lifted him up as much because he did a lot of comical & lighthearted films but he also did some great dramas like For Us, The Living: The Story of Medger Evers for PBS. It's a great film telling the story of an important civil rights leader. I got the Olive release of that and would love to see a better scan be preserved & released.

One director who I've been getting into that I haven't explored much over the years is John Schlesinger. I'm picking up Midnight Cowboy & Sunday Bloody Sunday and finally watching them. Nothing groundbreaking, of course, since those have been out forever. Also grabbing Billy the Kid. Criterion's been teasing that FOR YEARS!! And debating Thelma & Louise. I didn't relate to it much back in the day but might give it another shot.

Great video with you two, you and David both have a lot of film knowledge/love to share for sure! Cooley High had been recommended to me before, so might have to check it out for the sale and A Night to Remember sounds really interesting to me.

I really apprecite you watching! I placed a large order this morning and I hope to get out to a store during the sale if possible. There is a distance between me and the store, but there is one closer to where I work that I may get to shop at.

@@BasementBlus I went to a store this morning to pick up a couple that were out of stock online. The store was very low on inventory. It was a little disappointing to see.

It has been sad to see the B&N Criterion shelfspace shrink over this past year. I hope you were able to pick up some titles.

anotther black experience recommendation would be Gordon Parks The Learning Tree (1969), it is much overlooked. - the director of the first two Shaft films Also anything by Melvin Van Peebles.
