Fiji, a country in the South Pacific, is an archipelago of more than 300 islands. It's famed for rugged landscapes, palm-lined beaches and coral reefs with clear lagoons. Its major islands, Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, contain most of the population. Viti Levu is home to the capital, Suva, a port city with British colonial architecture. The Fiji Museum, in the Victorian-era Thurston Gardens, has ethnographic exhibits

With its rugged coastline, palm-lined coral beaches, and lagoons, Fiji is an ideal destination for those seeking a tropical climate. But beyond the utopian landscape is a multicultural society burdened with a health crisis. If you enjoyed the video, kindly hit that 👍 button and subscribe. Thanks 🙏

The diet of both native fijians and indo-fijians have very high sugar content - both added sugar as well as natural sugar/starch in the form of root crop staples, adding sugar to tea, rice, flour, sweets, oily food which are taken on a daily basis, with very little daily physical activity and alot of sitting down around grog bowls. All these add up

The wages in Fiji are very low, and the food prices are too high. There are many multimillion-dollar hotels, but the staff are paid very little. This is why people are moving overseas for better opportunities. Last week, Fiji Water staff went on strike due to these issues. I hope that our country will improve one day. I appreciate the positivity and passion the bed ridden guy has for his country. Yes, diabetes is very high in Fiji because of our diet. We consume too much oily food and carbs, and we drink alot of raw sugar. In every household, a normal breakfast is tea and bread with four tablespoons of sugar in one cup of tea thats normal. We need to change our diet and need a dramatic change for every household. Thanks for your video, much Love , now you gotta try some kava. 😂😂😂

Ivain, , the medical facilities in many Pacific nations eg. Fiji , Tonga, Western Samoa do have their limitations. There is huge issues with heart disease and kidney diseases and transplants can not be done in some countries. This why there is so much amputation done there. Some patients are transferred to Australia and New Zealand in some cases. This another reason why work visas that lead to Residency are sort after by Pacific Islanders. Some also have treatment for cancer and head injuries in Australia and NZ. There are charities from both countries that do work over there and send Doctor's over to assess health issues. Some procedures can be done in the Islands with the medical charities. Cataracts and other eye surgery is in demand too .

Indians are the second culture of Fiji! Rehab is the most important, he doesn't look to be totally incapacitated, his back is not properly supported there! Surely there is free retraining for all of them! 🤨

The first thing that comes to my mind when I hear Fiji is a beautiful tropical country that's known for one of the best exotic vacation destinations, but I never knew this side of the country existed. That family is really going through a hard time. It's really sad to hear their story. I could only imagine how many other cases like this exist throughout the country. I hope they'll get much needed help after people watch this video. I have heard about the high cases of diabetes in Fiji. I hear that poor diet is one of the major causes. Thank you for sharing this video. Great content. I enjoyed watching 👍👍👍.

Well said, Mike. According to the International Diabetes Federation approximately 33% of Fijians are diabetic and Fiji have the world's highest mortality rate from this chronic disease. They're organizations that are working to improve diabetes care and awareness in the country. They're educating Fiji communities on risk factors, and advocate for healthier lifestyles. Monitoring health and blood sugar levels with regular check ups. Let's all hope for the best against this disease 🙏.

It proves that we Fijians are resilient people and will not be discouraged by any challenges that come our way for the sake of surviving and enjoying the freedom and company of loved ones. Most people in Fiji despite the hardships they face, are happy because of the environment they are in. Either accept Workers Comp decision on the Award of the percentage of the Incapacity or Take it thru Civil Court for higher monetary Award in reference to the percentage of incapacity. On the difficulty to gain employment, first and foremost they are unqualified in any trade hence hard to gain employment. To get employment with well pay, with no qualification they can get employed as unskilled labour..... Sad but the ball is in their court to survive.....

Fiji is not the best but like some other countries it is way safer and simpler,"even on a sunny day there is shade".The everyday problems faced in this country in is bearable and basic but still you know, majority of the world have it way worse.Whats the worst that could happen to you in Fiji as a tourist over priced services, products and overconfident yoke reviews I guess that only happens in Fiji.Surprisingly, they have a welfare program I heard and free healthcare also insurance not bad and seems like their cultures and religions get along remarkably well that's a first considering all countries are the same like Fiji... speaking of cultures what about the others that make up Fiji?.. Who are they?...I heard they have natives can you interview them since your there to see the Fijians and not just Indians...The natives kind i look African in the market places and the vibes feel similar.

My friend, all countries have their challenges, you seem to forget the issues your own country faces, whether it be USA or your country of origin. We Fiji Islanders do the best we can, and we aren't a first world country. All families in Fiji have their own challenges, we do the best we can to survive, some make it out at the end. It is also about individual choices and if the individuals dont want to come out of their current situation, then that is their personal choices!

Thank you for your comment. Reading it indicated to me that you are not familiar with my channel, my content or the idea behind my videos. The one thing we agree on is that every country has problems. If you actually spend the time looking at my videos, you will realize that I have addressed in great lengths, several issues in the US (where I live). I have videos in the USA on various topics including: the homeless crisis, marital issues, child custody, healthcare issues, security issues, immigration, and much more. I’m not sure why you have an issue with me bringing awareness to the health crisis in Fiji. This is what I choose to do as a KZreadr if you don’t like it it’s okay. Attacking me doesn’t do anything because I’ll just film more of this kind of content. I’m very interested and focused on issues in the countries where I travel. I’m not here to film the beach and make commercials. This what my version of a documentary. If somehow it bothers you, ask yourself why but your comment is misguided and quite ridiculous. I’m allowed to make an observation about issues in the world. Not you or anyone will restrict me to only my home country or where I live. I’m a world traveler and much more to come. Ivain I think you need to work on your interviewing skills. You come across that way but you need to listen clearly and understand before asking the next question as they repeated themselves numerous times. Be more sympathetic and more respectful. You may mean well, but you come across as arrogant and ignorant. As you asked the mother what she had to say, she told you continuously to talk with her son as you could clearly see she was uncomfortable but you continued to have the camera in her face. Also you made the brother seem like he was just sitting around doing nothing, he also was and has been helping out all these years. The mother cannot carry him around let alone lift and move him when needed, that is what the brother was helping with. Just use common sense at times, because you can hear their story without having the camera up their faces. Videos aren't always about the content captured visibly but about the story that is being told and the meaning behind it. Just some advise as a viewer because this what we see. Bless that family and your travels. ❤

What is the purpose of yr travel to Fiji may I ask? Are you going to give any practical help to these humble families you've interviewd or are you trying to promote Africa?

This is the first time I came across this guy's video. For sure it is sad but I would be happy if you rephrase your title to something encouraging than demolishing. It's not a crisis and I guess not Fiji alone faces problems like this. May I ask, where you from? Have you done anything to help the people where you came from rather than picking on someone else's backyard for your dirty popularity. Fiji is always a nice country but like every other country they have their own disabilities. Next time fix yourself up first before others. Thank you

Diabetes is a crisis. In New Zealand hospitals are full of people of Pacific Island descent with this disease. Culture and diet and low income are part of the problem. It is well known that the hospitals in the smaller nations can do only so much medical intervention. Dialysis is not always easy to obtain in the smaller outer Islands of these nations due to distance and lack of medical facilities. Same with advanced maternity care.

Right everyone, every country has its own problems....why do you have to compare Fiji to USA? I bet your country in Africa is better off than anyone of us here. Top 10 poor countries in the world are all African countries. I'm from PNG and we have our own problems too man.....but I hate people who goes around around talking about other people's problem which aren't theirs....and what can you do to help? I think you're a UN agent.....
