As music majors in college, my husband and I discovered Regeneration and Derric Johnson. Before I knew their background, I commented to my husband, now a music minister, how much Voctave sounded like Regeneration. Mr. Johnson, you have a created a great legacy. It’s obvious Jamey has been deeply inspired by your rich harmonies.

So fascinating to see Mr. Johnson. I have enjoyed the VOICES of LIBERTY for years. In fact, my local volunteer chorus bought and performed his arrangement of the "Star Spangled Banner". It is wonderful!!!

I have enjoyed hearing the Regeneration Singers on our local Bible Broadcasting Network radio station in Chicago. I was so enthralled by the amazing harmonies and vocal techniques that I called the station to find out who that was. So nice to hear some of the interesting history and glad that the music is being published. A couple of my favorites are Ivory Palaces and Whispering Hope.

At 16 I went to Disney World for my first time in 1983. I heard Voices of Liberty and the only souvenir I brought home that year was their Cassette Tape, that I still have but it’s worse for wear because I listened to it so often! I fell in love with a cappella music after hearing what they could do. I also believe our voices are the only musical instruments that God ever created and a cappella music just hits the soul differently. The arrangements both of these men have done have touched me so deeply and I am in awe of their God-given talent in arranging these beautiful songs. Huge fan of Voices of Liberty since 1983, and of Voctave since about 2017 when I first heard one of Jamey Ray’s arrangements. (I honestly don’t remember which one it was on KZread, but I did a deep dive at that point and listened to everything I could find that this man arranged.) I honestly never knew until today, who the genius was behind Voices of Liberty, but I knew Jamey & Voctave were all connected to them so my proxy they got my admiration. They are, at this time in history, the two best a cappella ensembles out there and it’s all because of these two incredible arrangers. Like they said, you can always find Voices that can sing the notes, but arrangers are worth their weight in Gold! Neither of the groups would be nearly the caliber they are without the arrangements they have. Thank you for this interview and sharing these incredible arrangements with the world. Mind you, I’ve heard a couple groups try to sing Voctave arrangements and they don’t come close, so the talent is a big part of the sound for both groups, but it begins with the arrangements.

Does anybody know this E-flat matching warmup that Derric Johnson talked about in this interview? I'd love to use it if its available.
