The CRAZY Reason I Chose A Street Glide Over Any Other Motorcycle

Ride with me as I discuss the 5 reasons I chose a Harley Davidson Street Glide over any other motorcycle that was available for sale. I also cover what's gone wrong with the bike and what I dislike about the bike.
There was an overriding factor that some would call crazy and others would understand that led me to chose the Street Glide over any other available motorcycle. Lets discuss the decision making process and which motorcycle you ride and why?

I’ve got a 95 and an 18. Different bikes for sure. Bought the 18 with 38,000 miles on it at a good price last winter. Have to roll on the throttle slowly to mimic my evo or it’s just a herky jerky take off. Thinking about making it my winter bike. Came with heated grips and the lack of a carb to warm up.

I've rented Street Glides for all of my rental rides (EagleRider) in the past 5 years in the US. I love the design and prefer the fork mounted bat wing faring over the Road Glide's frame mounted faring. All of the rentals have been 114's. The engine performance is more than adequate for my riding - and I don't resist using the gearing and horsepower to enhance the riding experience. The stock storage volume and electronics integration into the faring and hand controls are all excellent.

Aymen's videos just keep getting better, and this is a classic example. I ride a 2015 Softail Slim, as a 'daily ride' because it's my 'work vehicle', complimented with a pair of Nelson Rigg NR400 saddlebags (2 x 8 litre), plus a 7.5 litre plastic ammo box from Evolution Gear strapped onto the 'Hollywood' handlebars (also doubles up as a fairing) with a Grunt silicone rubber strap from Bunnings, so I get just enough storage for work tools, a $7 roast chicken from Costco, a few cans of beer, a packet of sliced cheese from Aldi, some extra clothing and my music gear for when I jam with a band (5 Seydel harmonicas, a Greg Heumann custom built microphone and a Joyo 'Americian Sound' pedal). The engine is only a stage 1 (S/E Heavy Breather, Darryl Bassanie's Firesweep zorst & a FuelPak 3), but the best part of my bike are the Metzeler Cruisetec tyres. I love my bike so much that I can't sleep at night because all I want to do it get up in the morning and go for a ride. I never had that feeling with my Honda Z50A, or my GSX1100S, or my Moto Guzzi 850 Le Mans III, or my TZ250 or my TRX850. Ride safe guys!!!!

I have to think I am following in your path. When I bought my 2012 wide glide from the showroom floor, it just spoke to me. Raw, hard, real, classic HD. I loved and still love that bike (it's for sale now). I reached 55 and realized riding wasn't as fun because of the power with lighter weight, or the nimbleness of a BMX bicycle. The in town riding is fine if you like sitting at traffic lights more than you're riding. But longer highway rides with 80 MPH across your entire body and a hard seat on your old ass aren't as fun as they used to be. So I got myself something I would have never considered, in an Ultra Glide. 2014 model, but well cared for and I have been having a blast on it. Took some learning curve for sure, but the fairing, the seat, etc., have made it a whole new riding experience. Now...I got my Wide Glide ready for sale and took it for a spin and felt like it was TINY. And with the same 103 engine as the Ultra Glide, the difference in power was amazingly substantial. And handling was MUCH more nimble. But...like I said for all the reasons above, the Ultra Glide as well as the Street Glide and other fairing HD's, are a different experience and there are definitely many things to enjoy about real and actual riding from them. I won't overtake a challenger on the highway, but that rarely ever happened. However I do enjoy my riding experience every other mile I'm not looking to show off power or my riding skills. And that right there is worth it every day. Thank you for the video!

Traded my 2021 Heritage Classic 107 in on a 2023 Street Glide with the 107 engine three weeks ago. Very happy with the bike. At 60 yrs old it has all the giddy up I need to haul me down the road. I had a 2019 Road King with the 107 before the Heritage, and found I missed the extra weight and stability of the touring platform on long highway rides. Between the SG and my 1994 BMW R1100RS, I've got all my riding requirements covered.

The torque at your rear wheel comes from your selection. Put your bike in sixth gear and take off from a stop. "Hey, what happened to all my torquies?" The bits on the graph are marketing torques. It's what the dyno machine calculates from the rear wheel power & attributes to your crankshaft. Easy for the dyno to calculate. As there's no sensor connected from the dyno to your crankshaft, the best the dyno can do is calculate it based on the power at the rear wheel. Easy calculation, try it at home. At any given engine rpm, Power at rear wheel in hp = Engine crank Torque approximation in ft lbs * rpm/5252. If you want to find the Torque approximation from the Power, it's just Tq = 5252*Power/engine rpm. Power and torque ARE NOT two different things that occur at different points in the rpm range. In rotating systems, Tq and rpm are the components of Power, just as in electricity, current and voltage are components of power. I will never understand how gear heads got the silly notion that when they twist the throttle they feel Tq for a while then feel power. Such nonsense. When one twists their throttle, the only thing the human senses is acceleration. And there is nothing magical that happens at the peak crank Torque. If you shift at that rpm while your buddy winds his same bike out, you're going to get smoked. The reason crank torque is approximated is because people in the Marketing dept figured out it sounds much better to say my HD makes 139 approximated crank Torquies at 3k rpm than it does to say it makes 79 hp at the rear wheel at 3k rpm, but that's the reality. Bottom line is long stroke big twins make more rear wheel power at lower rpms than smaller short stroke engines. It's kinda offset by the fact HDs weight a short ton. That said, I like them too, but I didn't buy it because my primary concern with my bike was having the best one to collect speeding tickets on. I like the M8 engine because it's simple low maintenance, provides nice throb and burbling, and after 2020 are reliable AF. The power curve at the rear wheel tells you all the information there is to know about an engine's performance, period. And the peak power number they feed you is also Marketing dept BS. That is simply the power an engine provides at one particular rpm up near redline somewhere that few bikes are used much on the avg street ride. If you want a graphical abstraction of how engine outputs compare, simply overlay their power curves. The area under each curve is the total power they actually produce over their rev range.

I started riding 3 years ago. Always loved Harleys and when my wife said “If you’re going to ride a motorcycle, you’re riding a Harley.” What was I gonna do? Argue? Got a sporty and after a year, traded in for my ‘21 FXLRS with the 114. The engine is fairly stock. Mufflers, quickly made my own external breather system with a drill and some hose, (works great Btw) that’s it so far for the engine. Still feels great to my tastes. Very quickly put a Memphis shades RW fairing on her, a backrest, two up seat and some thrashin saddle bags for storage. At 54 I gotta keep the wind off my chest and have some storage. The 2up seat was for the wife but she doesn’t care for motorcycles anymore. Oh, I put some 6” Biltwell Murdock risers on her and extended the cables and such. Still have some more I’d like to do eventually, including a stage 2 at some point. Probably as far as I’ll take the engine. Not trying to make it a hot rod or anything and a good stage 2 on that bike will be plenty fun. Ride on, ride safe! Stay alive and out of the hospital.

68 year old Male in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma here.. just subscribed, first post.. I bought a 2015 Ultra Classic Low 2 years ago because I am vertical challenged.. 5'6" Being retired I bought an older Harley Davidson because I wanted to pay cash and have no payments, I paid about half of what a friend paid for a brand Street Glide a year ago. I bought an Ultra because I liked the looks of the motorcycle and because it has the most storage... I had a charging issue come up with my Harley about a year ago and then found out I could buy and extend warranty through Harley Davidson.. yes it was expensive but it was worth it... I had a major engine failure back in April of this year and since parts and labor were covered by the warranty I decided to pay a little out of pocket and get the Screaming Eagle stage 4 with the 103ci to 110ci... Well... it's been over 60 days and my dealership is still waiting on cylinders... originally told 45 days... But I was informed the other day that since it was brought to the attention of the factory that I have been waiting for so long i was bumped up on the list to receive them, and got a shipping date of 6/21... tomorrow.. so we'll see... I'm a little upset that I will end up missing almost 2.5 months of riding, but getting excited about having the upgraded engine...

Interesting video 👍 I ride only Electraglide Standard bikes for the last 25 years. Just stock engine ( 88CI and 96CI ) and added some stuff for traveling long distance thru all those beautiful European country's. Until now the bike has seen 17 countries ! The reason for buying this bike was, it has no radio and other electronic crap, and I only wanted a mounted Garmin GPS ( 660 ) in the fairing. Most important, It had crashbars front AND rear, so dropping the bike don't messes up your saddlebags or exhaust. I can use the Harley soft lowers on the front crashbar for rainy or cold day's, and remove them ín a minute on hot days. The rear crashbar holds those crashbar bags for extra luggage. I have also those adjustable wind deflectors on the batwing fairing. One of my saddle bags can hold my small 6" windshield on top of the luggage inside my bag , so I replace the original larger windshield on arrival in a hot mediterranean country. I use a 4 point docking system for mounting a sissy bar and luggage rack, just for holding my travel bags. I use also a adjustable backrest. The bike is also fitted with a trailer hitch, so if needed I can pull a used 200 liter Honda Goldwing trailer behind the bike 😂 This bike original has still the two passinglamps on the fairing, and riding in the evening in the mountains these are a great thing to have. 🥳

I have a 1991 softtail springer, stage 3 screaming eagle kit . And I installed foot boards in place of forward controls. And a 1992 Electra Glide Ultra Classic pretty much stock except exhaust cam adjustable push rods and upgraded lifters and valve springs. Absolutely love both. (And I still have my first big twin a 1978 flh I bought over 30 years ago, pulling the engine soon for a complete rebuild.)

Bought and still have a 2019 Road Glide CVO 117.....And just bought a 2023 Street Glide CVO 121.....In all the bikes I've ridden this Street Glide is far and away the best I've ever ridden. My Road Glide is great, but I test rode a friends Street glide for a short distance and immediately did indeed feel it was more nimble. Then I test rode a good friends Street Glide 131 and rode it for several miles and it was incredible yet AGAIN I immediately noticed just how nimble the bike felt and THAT was when I knew i wanted one.

I'm 6'4" 250# wear 36 x 36 pants. I have an Ultra Limited that i usually ride with the trunk off and a stock SG seat. I have highway pegs but don't use them for anything less than 30 min ride or if its really hot out. I haven't had to alter my bike ergonomically to accommodate my height. The Limited has the lowers that come in handy most of the year. On my older Ultras I'd take the lowers off in the mid summer until I hit a grasshopper swarm. Now even if I could remove them I wouldn't. The Limited also has a longer suspension travel. Since the trend isn't low and long, but rather the higher ground clearance performance look, my bike looks normal with the rearend up. The Limited gives you best of both worlds if you don't mind the lower fairing/radiators.

I built my Road Glide to my tastes and painted it to my liking! Only problem I have is, it's a 2000 Road Glide Screamin Eagle. I'm stuck with 95 cubic inches and a 5 speed so most of the time when I'm runnin' with my friends, my tach is up to 4000 rpm, and although my engine seems to like the higher rpms, I know it's stressing out the engine. This year going to Sturgis, my trans got stuck in 1st gear in Fairfield, Idaho and I had to get a box truck and bring her back home! This time I'm going to add a few more teeth to the engine sprocket so I can keep up with the 6 speeds. I was using twice the gas everyone else was using! As far as the looks of the SG and the RG, I like them both! In fact I put a 18 by 3" mag wheel up front with kind of a fat tire, so it has the SG look up front but with the early style RG fairing and changed all my lights over to LEDs.

I was riding a 2005 Honda VTX Neo which is a great bike, but when riding two up and even with a custom seat, it wasn't as comfortable as I wanted. I test drove a BMW Grand America, a Honda Goldwing and both with their location of foot controls or foot position, gave me a cramp in my hip. I also test rode a Yamaha Star Venture and it was the most comfortable and it had great weight distribution but it was a dog when it came to power, and it like the BMW and the Goldwing had tons of plastic and with adjustable windshields rattled going over bumps. I also drove an Indian Roadmaster like the Yamaha with forward foot controls it had a comfortable riding position but there was a ton of vibration at the hand controls and the adjustable windshield rattled going over bumps. I then tried a Street Glide and I was amazed at how smooth and how the motor pulled. I hadn't owned a Harley since the 90's when I had a FLH. Yet because the Street Glide was lacking a few comfort features like the tour pak and a decent seat I bought an Ultra Limited. Tho the Ultra didn't sit as low as the Street Glide it has to me a greater lean angle due to the way it sits. NO BIKE in my opinion comes the way you want it and you are always going to spend money on upgrades. I love power and speed, but at 69 years of age I want power but mostly comfort. Harley had the best fit and finish of all the bikes I rode. Unfortunately Harley and their production parts are not reliable in my opinion. After doing a bit of research I came to the conclusion that there can be some abnormal wear in parts like lifters, leaky gaskets and even leaky exhaust seats in the heads on the M8's. I have almost ten thousand dollars in small item upgrades, like the seat, handlebars, foot pegs and the stereo. I have installed digital gauges and next and very soon the motor is going to go to be rebuilt and blueprinted and mated with a 7 speed baker transmission, along with new exhaust that doesn't include a catalytic converter. I also have installed a hitch so I can pull a cargo trailer for long trips, because you can't pack enough in the saddlebags or tour pak for a month long cross country trip unless you want to stop and wash your clothes and slow your trip. When it is all said and done I will have over 70,000 dollars in the bike and like anything else, there are no guarantees on whether or not it is gonna break somewhere on the road, but I will have more confidence in it than if it were stock, AND the bike will fit me and my riding style.

Road it for about 4 hours. Found it very comfortable. Great torque and power. I’m not a fairing guy(whatever that is). I liked the mini apes . Found them very comfortable. Love the sound from the reinharts. 12:53 Anyway, at my age, this will be my last bike. I love the blacked out look. Anyway, i like power and speed. 75, Old not Dead.

I'm old enough to remember what the t-shirts were about. You paid your $10, got a shirt and that was your ticket into a party a week or 2 later. Nobody cared what anyone rode in on as long as it wasn't in a cage. My last bike was a Harley and the old shop closed and the new shop was a boutique where they sell an image. What they're doing now with going woke is worse than AMF. Just my opinion though.

@@bobg8378Have to agree 😂. Harley will wrap there arms and legs around anything. To sell a bike. Sturgis was interesting this year. Everyone Boycotted Budweiser so bad. They packed up and left town. At the same time Budweiser cans, brandished Harley's Shield on it. Makes a guy feel great. That Harley is making a statement, their owners may not support. But are forced to, by riding their image. It's easy to shoot up beer cans, and move on. Didn't see anyone shooting up their $40,000 Harley. Made me and my woman glad, we rode Ktm's to the party. Harley folk didn't wanna talk to us. Unless we initiated conversation, but whatever 😂. We still has a great time. I support everyone's decision, to do whatever they want. Don't force it down my throat. Companies need to keep their opinions, to themselves. For everything. Build your shit, sell it for it is.... It's really is that simple.

Your issue with the seat bottom nut constantly falling out can probably be solved with JB Weld. It may be a little bit of a pain but it would/should only be a pain in the rear that one last time (just make sure it's fit properly and sets up for the recommended amount of time). I'm 6'3 and had to do the same with the extended seat and foot controls on my 2015 Ultra Classic. I bought that instead of a SG because I figured if I needed the extra space, I'd already have it, taking the trunk off and on is easy enough (I do prefer the front fender of the SG though) and since my bike isn't black I wouldn't have to worry about color matching anything since I already bought the whole kit and caboodle. Anyway, as always, I enjoyed the video and look forward to more! Be safe out there!

I found an '02 RoadKing in a custom green paint scheme and I've not looked back, in fact I've put around 100K on the clock and its still going. Didn't stop me from going out and grabbing a '14 SuperGlide when the opportunity came and I'd challenge you to have a go on the SuperGlide with the Mid controls, at 6'2" I find it a very comfortable position and the seat doesn't pound my arse. When you come up to Interview Tony and view his stable of Hogs we'll catch up.

All CRUISER manufactures (not just Harley) need to come up to the times for safety and comfort. This should be built in as standard. We want up-to-date equipment (ESPECIALLY for the Price) ... Perfected ABS, Perfected Fuel Injection, Perfected shock absorption and chases performance. Perfected saddle comfort, Perfected ability to keep up with traffic. IMO ... They are ALL slacking on this to deliver a cheaper bike. The tech is out there, USE it or you are killing people. AND as I always say "Don't Piss Down My Back and Call it Rain". I am talking Cruisers purchased for long highway miles not the smaller toys built for neighborhood riding or off road use.

I have nothing against the Street Glide. It's just in my neck of the woods in the US everyone and their dog has a black Street Glide. Currently I have a '22 Gauntlet Gray Road King standard and I have not seen another one like it around these parts, which is very handy when parked amongst a sea of bikes. Cheers! 🍻
