It’s weird because this was Popes day. Guy F was a radical Roman Catholic terrorist who wanted to destroy the Protestant Christian’s effort to have an English translation of the bible called the King James Bible.

Technically it's about whatever you want it to be. It's original purpose and reason is different to today's, especially since it became illegal to celebrate terrorism. Nowadays it's an excuse to entertain kids and big kids by legalised arson, ignition of assorted chemicals in cardboard tubes and to listen to music with added loud explosions.

@@personal4528 you need to reread your comment, and look for the contradiction. Celebrating terrorism could be celebrating one specific event, of many. 5/11 is about celebrating 1 act of terrorism. You tried to be pedantic, instead you proved my point more than your own. Furthermore it doesn't matter what it once stood for, it's no longer a celebration of anything, it's an excuse to have some drinks, have an outdoor party, burn some junk and lights some chemicals to create loud explosions and bright coloured sparks.

Bonfire night can be a celebration of either the failure or the attempt. It all depends on your personal opinion of it. A vast majority of my family spend bonfire night cracking jokes about how its a shame he didn't succeed. (And no, we are not catholics, or even religious.) The way you celebrate bonfire night is not the way others do. Bonfire night doesn't really have a true meaning anymore, it can be whatever you want

Yeah - they got the opposite of their original intentions. But I understand the appeal of Fawkes, willing to give his life for the beliefs that were once legally enforceable during his own youth. And he still got the last one over the "protestant or die" King and country by killing HIMSELF on the actual scaffold - depriving them of the "satisfaction" of the gruesome 3 part death penalty they were planning.

Born June 19 1566 in Edinburgh Castle which makes him Scottish. He was know in Scotland as James IV but when Eliz 1st died he became King James 1st of England He was the first Stuart King of England. He did not know his mother (Mary Queen of Scotts) as she spent 19 years in Jail......Elizabeth put her in Jail. So he was saying to James go back to Scotland. The whole thing was all to do about Catholic and Protestants
