The Cowsills- "Is It Any Wonder."

Directed and edited by Ryan Sexton, this is the first in a trio of videos shot on VHS format in 1990. It was the band's first recordings in 20 years. Done on a "pocket change" budget, this is very rare.

Now THAT"S how you write a great pop song! The Cowsill's should have been soooo much bigger. Incredibly talented.

Bob and I were friends and worked together when he recorded this song. I still have the cassette tape he gave me that included "Some Good Years" I remember going to a club in Hollywood where he performed trying to promote this record. Great memories.

Just now heard this song for the first time. This is a great song, they really blend together. This should have been a hit back in 1990, when this was recorded.

There is also another song called "Is it any wonder" that was done by both the Turtles and the Grass Roots. I had assumed that was the song the Cowsills would be doing here, but this song is good also. But possibly they were inspired by the title of the other song, which I recommend you all check out. My personal preference is for the Turtles version.

If they seem to make all of this appear effortless, consider that by 1989 when this was recorded (25 yrs ago NOW), they had ALREADY been playing professionally and recording in studios for 24 years AS CHILDREN. (a Google-search will show you all of the hit-songs, celbrity-variety shows,( Buddy Ebsen, Ed Sullivan, Johnny Cash, Dean Martin, Mike Douglas and even Hugh Hefner [+] specials, -all as children. They are amazing.

I used to love John playing drums and thought the attraction was due to his young age. I still enjoy watching him. For me the two youngest members of the family were the highlights. - Reg.

Saw them at Rocky Point Park in the Paladium in Rhode Island, (they were raised in Newport)when I was 14. My 1st concert. Had a Mad Crush on Susan. They will always be on my mind. Next show? Alice Cooper at the Palace Theatre in Prov.R.I. Original band on the KILLER Tour. You wanna talk about contrasts..I had a quart of beer and smoked cigarettes. Wow,the memories!

Honestly, this reminds me of days when all pop music tried so very hard to sound like this. I was maybe 8 years old when pop and country music were looking for this kind of inspired genius everywhere. We had the Everly Brothers and Roy Orbison in '64. They came about as close to this as they could get (not to take ANYthing away..i love them, too.) But this family have something entirely unique and special for all of the rest of us to enjoy. This album was their masterpiece (so far......................)

I love Global tunes. These guys write songs the way i wish i could. Using chords that i wish i'd thought of. -and lyrical timing that is signature to Cowsills. I have a question: Did their brother Bill cover this song? This is EXACTLY the kind of thing that Bill's band (the Blue Shadows [in Calgary]) would have been overjoyed to play for their club audiences. I'm surprised completely that he didn't want to be in this session. Maybe he wrote the song for them to record in the first place. i don't know. B'cuz Bill and Bob are brother-geniuses here so, either of them could have written this with Paul, John and Susan.

Thank-you, Grywildadpuffyeye for this really great video. Watching them all have a good time in the studio ~after all~ has become something of a holy-grail mission for Cowsill fans. I know they worked hard on this music. I love it. The Christmas song is actually stunning.Thank-you times a million.
