As a bulgarian i would say that I dont want to forget about the past, because Bulgaria is litteraly falling appart. Everybody is migrating to the West... Government is *cough*... It was during this time missionary’s from Macedonia spread the slavic orthodox religion in the Macedonian language. That is why all the slavic countries speak a language similar to ours and use an alphabet that was created in Macedonia. That’s why Putin said that Macedonia is the cradle of slavic literature.

In the summer of 971 near the Danube River, Byzantine Emperor John I Tzimisces delivered a decisive blow to Svyatoslav, and incorporated the Bulgarian empire into Byzantium following the victory. Anything can be written on the net and Wikipedia, the truth is in the story and the events of history themselves The Bulgarians want to claim the Macedonian kingdom under Tsar Samuel as a continuation of the first Bulgarian empire, but it was ruled by Macedonians under Tsar Samuel in ohrid. Later there was a second Bulgarian empire in the 13th century. You can see all this on the internet and follow the dates, events that took place and the cities where the rulers resided. Its not that important if basil was called a bulgar slayer on the internet, whats more important is the events in history. The first Bulgarian empire ruled over Macedonia and other areas from 681 AD. The capital was Pliska until 893, so it was bulgarian. The second capital of the empire was preslav 893-972. And ended with the death of tsar Peter the last Bulgarian ruler. Now if you look on Wikipedia or wherever,after the death of tsar Peter, who ruled from preslav Bulgaria, you’ll see the next capital was skopje (Macedonia) 972-992 not in Bulgaria. Thats around the time when Samuel and his 3 brothers rebelled after tsar Peter the last bulgarian ruler of the first Bulgarian empire died. People do uprisings against foreign occupiers or rulers; See, Tsar Samuel wasn’t in the Bulgarian empire that was taken over by the Byzantines in 971. He had a Macedonian kingdom independent from Byzantium until 1018. Tsar Samuil established the first Macedonian state in 976 A.D. lasting until 1018, following the defeat at the hands of the Byzantines. Samuil's Empire consisted of the entire region of Macedonia, as well as Thessaly, Epirus, Albania, Serbia, Duklja, Travina, Zahumlje, Neretva, and a considerable part of Bulgaria. In this empire the majority of the population were Macedonians, followed by Bulgarians, Serbs, Croats, Romaioi (Byzantines), Albanians, and Vlachs. The official language of the empire was Macedonian. Some have asserted that Samuil's empire was a continuation of the First Bulgarian Empire-recognized by Constantinople and the Orthodox Church. But Samuil's empire was recognized by the Catholic Roman Curia. In addition, Samuil represented a new imperial dynasty, the empire was founded on a new state and legal basis, with new twin capitals at Prespa and Ohrid, and with a precisely defined core centered around Macedonia and Macedonian Slav orthodox as the fundamental element of the new empire. All of this points to the fact that Samuil's empire was not merely a continuation of the First Bulgarian Empire recently shattered by Byzantium, but a new political entity which emerged independently.

But around like 5-6th century the slavs came here from today Poland,then Bulgarians mixed with them and you may know the story. And if I'm right the Bulgarians own Macedonia since like 830 a.d. , add 500 years + Serbs and what do you get- max 100 years in old Macedonia. then 600 years in Roma/Byzantium,500 years in Bulgaria and like 100 in Serbia, then 500 in Ottomans. And then add that there were a lot of Bulgarians in Thrace Mizia and Macedonia. So your latest antcesters are probably- greek,turk,or bulgarian or serb. So you choose.

Very nice work and good, detailed designed borders. You also correctly link the current Slavic-speaker FYROM with the slavic tribes that settled in the central Balkans during 7th century, known in the medieval sources as Sagoudates, Drogouvites, Strumonites, Velegezites etc.

Serbia is Serbia from the past. In my opinion ancient Macedonia was not pure hellenic. Like Byzantium, was not hellenic, only the official language was.

Therefore the Macedonians and the Bulgarians are not exactly the same thing, only the language. But this language is not the original bulgar language, but the language of the local Balkan people as i said.

@Янко Янков Byzantium wasn't 100% Greek since there lived many other nations Slavs Bulgarians Armenians etc and even many emperor weren't Greek but the core of the empire in all levels was Greek and of course Greeks were the most among the other nations.So in the end it was an empire related with Hellenism and Orthodoxy.

@Янко Янков The whole world isn't a state under the USA and of course the world hasn;t majority of Americans.Saying Greece is not descedant of Byzantium is as silly as say that Russia isn't descedant of USSR or Iran isn't descedant of Persia.Greek people were the majority in Byzantium Greek civilization was the only accepted in Byzantium Greek language was the official after 6th century and widely spoken even by non Greeks.Byzantium was almost 100% Greek.You foreigners confuse the fact that Greeks back then were called Ρωμιοι/Romioi(Romans) and not Ελληνες/Greeks and you may think they consider themselves as Romans.The meaning of Romioi was "Greek and Orthodox" while the meaning of Ελληνες/Greeks was "Greek and pagan".In fact many Greeks in regions like Pontus Epirus etc called themselves Romioi until the begining/middle of 20th century 6 centuries after the falling of Byzantium and 1 century after the start of Greek state.Also until today a region in Greece (Sterea Ellada/central Greece) is called also Ρουμελη(Rumeli).

The nation existed long ago before any state country.In fact the first term of the nations was given by Herodotus and answers the question of Persians "why Greeks united against the Persians" and is that "for the same genus, the same religion, the same blood and same language". Greeks were separeted and fought each other but that doesn't make them non Greeks.The war against the Persians prove that along with the fact that in Olympic games only Greeks were allowed to join and of course all cities or states took part even colonies including Macedonia Epirus Cyprus and Greek colonies in south Italy,Anatolia north Africa.Of course the hole meaning of Olympic games was to be an event which will unite Greeks even at a sort time. I know of course that Byzantium wasn't called like that back then and actually in Greek it was called Ρωμανια.I told you many times that there were many Greek emperor before 1100.After 1100 there were almost only Greeks.The thing that fucked up the empire was the crusade and fall of the City in 1204.I gave you many arguments and the main two are that the east was culturally Greek and the major nation in the empire was Greeks.That's make Byzantium almost 100% Greek empire and Greeks the only nation which can consider as descedant. You have to search more about Greek history to learn the truth if you are interested.

Great video dude, I know you put a lot of effort into this and altough I'm not a historian and you are probably more knowledgable in this then me I'd like to say a few things: I'm pretty sure The Serbian Empire never conquered Bosnia only parts of todays Herzegovina (Hum) and then Stjepan II defeated Lazar in the battle of Hum and expanded the Bannate of Bosnia to that territory and that set up great foundations to Tvrtkos Kingdom which you put here ^^ Also your map of todays Bosnia is a bit wrong because it doesn't have that part near the sea. Sutorina belongs to Montenegro. Also great video!

that was nice! I am happy to see our neighbours especially Bulgarians, a country I really like agreeing with us for the Macedonian name dispute. Macedonia is Greek , Fyrom is Bulgaria! also happy we were together in the Byzantine Empire :)

FYROM is not Bulgaria. It was partly Serbian and partly Bulgarian. But that is history, today it belongs to new nation "Macedonians" or however you call them.

Actually no one here is Bulgarian,there are a third of the population that are albanian ,and FYROM is a dumb name that we with the help of your government we managed to change to a much more reasonable name, we were never Bulgarian and many Macedonians were killed by them during WW2 ,when many ethnically Macedonian people with the help of the KPG attempted the dram revolution

Makybox There is no way possible Greeks can steal Macedonian history because you cannot prove to the world that Macedonia never existed. Macedonia is mentioned throughout the whole of history and mentioned in empires and REAL maps as a separate nation to the Greeks. It’s mentioned separate in the bible and in thousands of historical accounts and REAL ancient maps.

Thanasis Sideris throughout history before the 19th century every nation or country around Europe was in some empire, ottoman or austro Hungarian. Greece and all Southern Europe were in someone’s empire so if Macedonia can’t be a real country, than no other country can be legitimate and real. Don’t be biased with double standards. Your country is 10 times more fake if we look at it that way, since the official language of Greece was Albanian before the 1800’s and mostly Albanians lived there, then the Bavarians came down and gave the name “Greece” to your nation. Before 1821 you will never find the word “Greece” on any map and thats a true fact and you know it!!! Macedonian territory and land, and Macedonian people were under ottoman rule until 1913. How can Macedonia be Greek when you people were already celebrating since 1821 when ALL of Greece was FULLY liberated. If every other territory and land of the Ottoman Empire has a right to exist as a country, than don’t be evil.... Macedonia has also a right to exist. This world is upside down... one of the most famous and well known countrys in European history and in the bible “Macedonia” now doesn’t have a right to exist because its evil southern neighbor wants its legendary history and occupies its land. Fact: Pella, the birthplace of Alexander the Great, is in Greece. The kingdom of Macedon was a Hellenic state that then conquered the other Hellenic states (and Turkey and the Middle East, and Egypt and up to the Indus River). Alexander could be considered a Panhellenist as much as archduke Franz Ferdinand's murderer Gavrilo Princip was a Panslavist. When a land changes owner, more often than not the culture becomes a hybrid as much ad the language does. Italy knows it quite a lot, and it's a bitch to fix when you try to unify a country unless you plan on having a decentralised government (which I am in favour of, in Italy's case). Outside of Italy the nation, still in Italy geographically, Istria by this point is more Slavic than it was when the control over it passed from Austria-Hungary to Italy (with a brief Yugoslavian rule before the insistance of Italian irredentists) and Corsica is now pretty much Frenchified after having been ceded to France by Genoa to cancel a Genoese debt. Malta basically speaks a massive hybrid language. And don't get me started on the Sardinian language, the living language closest to ancient Latin.

Slavs on make up the leadership of lands they moved into like the Germans in Spain and France or Turks in Anatolia. The majority of people were still of the aboriginal groups. Meaning, Croatia and Bosnia is of the same genetic makeup as Albania. Bulgaria and Romania are genetically related as both come from Thracian populations, which Dacians are a part of. Serbia was a melting pot of divergent cultures much the same as Hungary. Most people in Turkey are Greek, Arab, Kurdish, and Armenian. People in Spain are Iberian and Celtic.
