It sounds like you got it made over there. Here in Huntington Beach, CA, my 1 bedroom apt is $2,200 alone... total in all expenses are $3,500. I don't go out nor eat out b/c I can't afford to pay $15 for pho and $5 to $6 coffee every day. I have 2 jobs, one fulltime at $21/hr just to pay for all my bills, and I have another part-time job in the gig economy to save, so I can get the hell out of the US to Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia or back to Hawaii. My mother went to retire in Cambodia in 2006, had 2 maids, extended her life for 18 great yrs b/c my dad passed at only 59 from a stroke from working so much and eating all the processed craps that are in 90% of all food markets 99% in convenience stores. Here, seems like 70% of the people are fat/overweight or unhealthy as fudge. I tried to save with my normal 9 to 5 job, so I can get the hell out of here with no life's enjoyment other than watching KZread, etc..., but financially, I can't. That's why I took a 2nd job. It's a vicious cycle of just work and worrying about paying bills like a caged chicken. Yes, things are nice here in So Cal and plenty of things to do, but if you go out once, it'll set you back $300 to $500 per night and worrying as hell about paying bills at the end of the month. Yup, try $28 drinks here... and $10 beer at the clubs or bars. America's reality isn't what it used to be. Remember, $8 for a dosen of decent eggs and $6 for a quart of milk. Time has changed. Inflation is real. People are noticeablly tense and distrusting of one another. My best yrs were when I went to SE Asia to work as a teacher from 2005 to 2012, didn't get paid much, but everything was cheap, and I had time to enjoy my life b/c I work only 6 hours a day and 4 days a week. I miss those $6 massages and $2 beer and $2.50 meals. Yesterday, I treated myself to a massage, it cost me $100 with tip... It was a normal massage.

We're neighbor from Long Beach. I got lucky with rent $1,000 a month. There is no secret to financial freedom except to make more than our expenses. Right now, I'm planning to start a sugarcane drink business and someone told me that during the county fair, a drink business make from $10k-30k a day!

This is 💯 how it is! We’re a family of 4 with small kids in the Silicon Valley, CA. Just rent alone is 3750 for a 4 bedroom single family home. Pay wages are high but the cost of living is even higher making it nearly impossible to buy. A single family home in the ghetto will cost you 1 million. My brother is a postal worker and forced to work 6 days per week and 10-14 hours a day. He has to use his sick time or vacation hours just to have some time off.

At the end is so funny with you guys lightly bickering with the “pimp” joke 😂

Not going to lie. I am going miss the your Cambodia videos once you move back to the states. My wife (japanese) and I (khmer) bing watch your channel and itchyfeet on the daily here from Colorado. But i understand you have to do what’s best for you and your family. Going to continue supporting regardless!

I think pros of Cambodia: Cost / learn language / culture / safety / luxuries that can’t be afforded otherwise (house with car with nanny /house keeper). Cons: limited opportunities for certain professions or work or education; some of the mentality / cultural differences will limit your success in the West; lack of access to public education / reputable university / potential economic and political instability of Cambodia. The great thing is you can leverage both with US citizenship- if one plan fails you can adapt and move to the next.

I find living in Cambodia still a better option than the US for many reasons despite all those handicaps. While it's true that there are barriers in those categories that can hinder your success, it takes creativity to live in a society where the law is not force upon you. I look at Cambodia now similar to the US prior to 1913.

Family of 3 like you. We are an old fashioned Khmer couple in California. I dont know my expenses. My wife holds the purse strings. I just bring home 7k a month. Side hustles for my hobbies She put a benji a week in my wallet for "cigarettes and gas." But i drive an ev and dont smoke. Planning on bringing grandma over stateside to save on the nany cost and hopefully spends her golden years here(medical reasons). Might do dual residency, 51% Cambodia, 49% California for tax reasons.

Living in US, is to work six, or perhaps, seven days per week if owning a business. Working at least six days if working for others. May be mandatory to work more than eight hours per day (forced over time work). If planning to live in US temporarily for a few months you will get an idea. Keeping your property in Cambodia is the best choice if you decide to go back. Life is best in US if hitting a jackpot.

My monthly expenses as a business owner $7k. Personal expenses $5k. Rough guesstimates.

As a Khmer Canadian who would love to return to Cambodia one day, it's definitely cheaper living in Cambodia for a family of 3. It's getting more and more expensive in Canada and the US. Either you are very rich or poor as the middle class is shrinking. A lot of retirees are moving to cheaper countries to retire. Cambodia is completely foreign to me but thank God I am still fluent in Khmer.

the avg cost of a live-in nanny in California is around $20 an hour for 10-12 hours of work. I know a person who pays their live-in nanny 80k a year. a family of 3 here with a child about the same age as your daughter. I spend about 7-8k a month without a nanny in Cali. and we usually eat at home and eat out once in a while. Cost mainly due to rent and fuel cost. Maybe we'll be looking to live in Cambodia in the future.

Here in the us, everything is very expensive. Hire a nanny could cost you a fortune. In California, one bedroom apartment rent cost between $2600 to $3000 a month. A bowl of pho now costs $16 plus tips. Car and health insurance cost skyrocketed and required by law to have it. Life here in the US is not as good as the old days. A lot of homeless and crimes. My car license plate got stolen at home and window got smashed at work. This happened to my neighbors, coworkers, almost everyone I know is a victim of crimes. I used go for walk worry free. Now I have to take extra precautions when I walk outside.

Ya, California is overpriced. Even, for a small ugly 3 bedroom 2 bath house with 1 garage and barely no yard that is located in a ghetto or not so nice area in California will cost a little over 1 million dollars. It is insane. An the housing market interest rate is like 7%!! So crazy.

The rent would be between $3000 to $3500 per month. Driving to work could be more than one hour drive so no lunch at home for sure.

Our expenses in Cambodia would run to about 5k USD for a family of 4, but that includes 2-2.5k for international school for the kids. We choose to live in a nice area, send the kids to an expensive school, eat good (homecooked) food, and have a full time nanny. Wouldn't get this lifestyle for the same money back home.

@@roundface74 That doesn't surprise me. At the same time, no one should be under the illusion that it is all roses. There are some goods and services that are just not available at an acceptable quality here and you have to adapt. But without a doubt 5k/month goes way further here.

@@fuqOuttahere333 Definitely cheaper options. For younger kids, many of the cheaper kindergartens and primary schools can be very good. It is when the kids hit high school that you will want the flashy facilities, sports teams etc. I won't go into too much detail, but we are on one year working visas, which are renewed yearly without the need to leave the country.

It’s a lot cheaper to live in Cambodia and also cheaper to help someone in needs . But take your family to the USA and get them USA citizenship. It’s the best thing to do for your family.

Nanny in the U.S is about $3000 a month easily no room and board just in California I’m talking about. 40 hrs week

If you can afford $4,000.00 a month in Srok Khmer, you should be able to afford to live anywhere. You might not be able to afford 2 in-house nannies, but you and your wife should be able to manage it. We have 4 kids, and the last 2 sons are twins, and my wife and I managed to live comfortably in the USA with a single income. We cannot afford daycare, so my wife stayed home to take care of the kids. They're now in high school, college and the eldest kid just graduated from college as an RN this year. Maybe in the Midwest states in the US but not major cities. Also, when the kids grow up, it’ll be more expensive. However, they do have some public assistance in the US until the kids are 18 but it’s terrible to be on it. Personally, I feel like the US is going downhill and will continue to do so. Crimes, housing affordability, and jobs are getting worse. It might even be safer in Cambodia compared to many parts of the US because most of Cambodia still has a strong Buddhist culture. Gun violence happens too often here in many places if not all of US.

@@mikewhocheeseharry5292 Living in the East Valley of the Sun is as major as any city in the U.S.A. The house price here is nearly as expensive as California these days. If you have a steady job, you should never need any assistance from the government, and you wouldn't qualify for any government assistance anyway. If the kid worked hard in school, they should qualify for an academic scholarship to most major universities in the U.S.A. My two girls went to colleges on their academic scholarships. They worked part time to pay for their apartment and food, and we chipped in some to help them as well. My two boys will be getting scholarships as well. Both parents and kids work hard together will succeed anything... 😁

Non live in Nannies are $2500-6000 per month in the Bay Area. Live in Nannies are around $2000-5000 per month. Definitely stay in Cambodia until Eva needs to go to 1st grade for the US school system - You would need to work 3 jobs just to pay your nanny here in the US...

They have excellent international schools there and even with the cost it is probably still cheaper to live in Cambodia than in the US.

For me, it's $1,500 covers everything with $0 housing, and $0 for transportation. I am a minimalist.

I lived in Bangkok about 20 yrs ago. I had two maids that came with the home I rented. In contract it said I was to let them go home to their province one weekend outta the month. I had no kids at that time so their job was cooking , cleaning, shopping for me and they gave me massage when I got home from a long day...foot massage that is! For my two maids it cost $100.00 US for both of them a month which was included in rent rate.

In my Khmer family in Chbar Ampov, grandparents, aunties, and neighbors act as the nannies…my wife and I take care of our nieces along with grandparents, great aunties, and we treat them like our kids…their parents work so we help out…the village takes care of them…its a communal thing…but of course, grandparents live with us so we take care of food and living costs just like you…electricity is expensive now, we try not to use air con so much by buying lots of fans but we still spend $250/month.

Living here w family is great value & tons of help. Easy to go on holidays w full entourage. We are lucky because we make good money but u can still live well on budget. Agree w your comments on Cambo women are awesome at supporting their man, the West could learn a thing about teamwork as a family. Medical & school are our biggest expenses. Everything else is ok especially if u cam eat local food.

The price of your house 's rent is super expensive when compare in Thailand in the same location and in the same size I can rent it for 400 USD per a month in Bangkok or any cities for tourists such as Chiangmai Phuket Pattaya or the seaside city Koh Samui

We liike also to add the retirement accounts with the 401K employers account, individual IRA and Roth IRA accounts besides the government social security account. After living there for over 40 years, we took our early retirement to travel to see the world with our personal retirement accounts and we can retire any where if we wanted to including Cambodia. Life is short to do the things we don't love doing but life is very precious. Budget our financial requires disciplines and commitment to achieve our financial freedom instead of living with debts. Sharing is caring 🎉

Here in Southern Oregon, we spend $1700 on a $300k mortgage for a 1500sf 3/2 (prices of homes/rentals have gone up since we bought); $700ish in groceries, $225 electric, $65 natural gas, $300ish in gas (car), $600 for medical insurance for family with $3k deductible before it kicks in. Sewer water trash maybe $150. Internet $85. Phone family plan $200 for three adults. Life insurance $70. Eating out gets expensive. Then you can double that for all the other stuff like repairs to the car, house projects, birthday parties, random household and living expenses, etc. This is for my husband and I and our two year-old plus a 17yo stepdaughter that lives here half time. We don’t have a car payment but I think that would add a lot. I hope this helps you get an idea as you prep to move back to the States. We are in an area that is slightly higher than the average cost of living but nothing like NY or LA. My husband works full-time, I was doing art lessons for kids until Covid and plan to start again at some point. Daycare is crazy Crazy crazy out of this world expensive; I just stay home with our little guy. Also, we plan to homeschool.

Do reconsider the homeschooling because being at school teaches you more about learning to be and deal with others than just getting content into your head. This is why those kids who had pre-school were shown to have higher achievement because like in a job, interacting well with other people is just as important in how successful you are. If the school in your district is under par, you can supplement by doing some tutoring yourself.

I think living in Cambodia is already great ! Since living in the USA is very expensive, My rent is $2500 a month, only one income. And we have 5 kids to support. My total bills for a month is $7000 , my husband is planning to build a house in Cambodia and retire there because I know cost of living there is cheap! As long as you know how to survive it’s great out there. Your wife she got a good job , hairstylist and do eyelashes. So you guys should be able to lived there comfortably. Just lived there better than USA brother and sister.

How are you planning to survive in the states? Yall have a live in nanny/maid. Good luck trying to do it all yourself in America. Your wife can be self sufficient because she doesn’t do housework that’s 24/7 with a baby, cleaning, cooking😅 I do all of that, plus a full time job while working from home. It’s not easy but I told myself it’s just temporary until I have enough to retire. Now am retired at 38. My job is cleaning, cooking, and hanging out with my son since school is just 4 hour a day in Finland

Cambo-Vlogs. Move to a conservative state in the U.S., like florida. Way cheaper than all the liberal blue states. As an asian family man, married to a khmer krom woman. I make 10k a month and my wife makes 5k a month. We both live good raising 2 kids ages 11yr & 13yr that attend a good public school.

My house in ct, United States the mortgage is about $1600 per month. And was valued at about $400k when my wife and I bought it. The Cable, electric, water bill and city fees and etc is about $800 total. Car insurance about $270 per month two cars. Both 2020, one suv and a jeep. One car paid off. One still paying about $300 a month, we have one child who is 7 years of age. And let’s say we spend about $700 a month on groceries give or take. So total amount of living in the United States isn’t that different from Phnom Penh Cambodia. From your numbers…Everything in Cambodia is just as expensive if you’re trying to live a okay lifestyle. Oh and btw.. having a great credit score in the United States helps yah out a lot too with the monthly payments on almost everything . That is what people need to understand… yeah your rent is high..your car payments etc is high mainly probably due to your credit score.. 😅

@@CamboVlogs Depends on the city you decide to move to. NY, CA, and WA are double those numbers. Health insurance for a family of 3 can run 300-800 with employer sponsored plans you need to add + required car insurance with car payments since you need to get around the big country. Trips to Costco is already $400 a week for groceries here in California. Add up other costs - I think without a Nanny, you are looking at need 150k to 200k gross and 100k net (after tax) to survive in the states, so about double your figures there.

Your nanny is right. The egg dish is not what you’re saying. It is very different.

I plan on living in Khmer krom Vietnam in 2 years. We already have land and a house in Phu Tan District in An Giang Province, which is a big khmer krom community next to the cambodia border and the mekong delta. Our house there is 3 levels, 5 bedrooms, 3 full bathrooms, a place to park your car and scooter. It has a security gate around the house. An all my khmer krom in-laws live nearby.

I didn't expect groceries would be $300 a month. I live in NYC and for my bf and I (mostly lunch and dinner food) I spend about $400-$450 on groceries. However I would say that we don't get paid enough to have freedom to eat out whenever. 1 meal for 2 is at least $100.

My wife and I will be moving to Cambodia or Vietnam in a couple years. Our son is half Chinese half American. We plan to let him and any other children we might have to go to public school for 2 years in whichever country we decide to settle in for language acquisition. Then we'll homeschool them for around $6,000 a year

Did you include any health care and insurance? You are young but with a child you will need many doctor visits. And with time you probably will need some too. Your blog in nice but sometimes very narrow. The US is not the only country to compare to. Look at ‘dark and happy’ Denmark. 4000 $ would give you sooo much there (except sun and light in winter) 😃😂

Hello Cambo Vlog, We have a family of 5 and we spend 9 K per month renting in Massachusetts So if we Move to Srok Khmer And only pay 3K per month for all living costs and one nanny We will save around $70 K per year HMMMMM seems like a no brainer LOL

2 live-in housemaid! Is your wife a doctor? 😂. Being Cambodian, we’re taught to trust no one with our children. I live in America for most of my life and have 2 young children at the age of 21 while working a nurse in a major hospital and owning a bakery shop, 7 days a week. Staring at 3am to the bakery shop than home at 7 am- than to the hospital from 8am-5 pm. and back home by 6pm. I cook, did all the housework. Everything was between me and their dad. Yet we never once considered having someone else raising our children. We had enough money for many housemaids. But again, never once consider that option. Is this a new trend?
