THE CORNUCOPIA PROJECT | Oregon Documentary | Exploring the Secret History of Northeastern Oregon
Presenting Louis and Keegan Adventure #1: The Cornucopia Project.
In this, our first adventure to be brought to film, Louis Bengtson and Keegan Van Hook explore Northeastern Oregon's Wallowa Mountains, specifically to learn about the ghost town of Cornucopia. We also pay a visit to the town of Halfway, as well as many of Oregon's most beautiful natural locations. Along the way, we learn about the history and secrets of the region, all while having a fantastic experience. Come along!
This movie marks the continuance of the "Keegan and Louis Adventures" blog which ran for a couple years. We begin again at number 1.
Corrections:
00:51:50 - When introducing Halfway, I say that it was platted in 1807. It was actually 1907. I misspoke.

The best way I can describe your content is it’s vlogging with a documentary format

Thanks, I like that haha.
Great - going there this summer!
As much as I have been criticizing, I have been enjoying your documentary. You have done a fairly good job of documenting my home

jan haga thanks! You certainly aren’t the first to catch my bad pronunciations or certain words and place-names. I’m from western Oregon, and had never really traveled or even looked into the landscape of your corner of the state before heading out there on this journey of raw exploration. While the pronunciation of Wallowa you are referring to is the correct, I hear it both ways quite often... unfortunately I chose the less correct way. I did not know that about the boat, either! That’s really cool and I’m glad it’s like that. I highly appreciate you for watching all the way through the film, and I encourage you to check out some of our more recent stuff- this was early in my learning of this art form, and I made a lot of mistakes which I have worked to avoid in my newer work. Cheers!
I see this coming out right now. I promise I'll watch it later. Too late tonight, tho. Barely into the video and I just wanna tell you something: next time on a motorcycle. After finishing the movie: 10/10 would recommend again. Good job, keegan
I loved this documentary! Very real & authentic. 👍🏽
Finds put dog is deaf Next clip: calls to dog like it can hear lol
This is a really neat style of documentary! I can tell that a lot of time and effort went into it! I hope to make a trip out to NE Oregon someday, since it's really the only part of the state I haven't been to.
I love you guys. You are true and authentic...please stay that way.
At 18:50 were you two drinking water from pine creek? You are aware there was very large lode mines upstream?

@@maxwellwoodhouse2908 Most likely... there were some major problems up there because the tailings piles were leaching heavy metals in extreme levels. They also used tailings for the playgound at the elementary school there at Halfway, had to tear it all up and truck it out. Are you familiar with the area? Are you from Baker?

@@maxwellwoodhouse2908 I guess when you have major resource extraction sometimes there is gonna be some consequences. There is/was someghing like 36 miles of tunnel up there, I have stood on the waste rock pile from the Union Companion adit and the Coulter millsite tailings. It is massive, and there is a lot of heavy metals oxidizing when they are exposed to the elements. But what are your thoughts? I am not a geologist or a hydrologist.. I'm just a dumb farmer

@@royglassow402 Well im just some kid from Corvallis, I have a interest in mining, I would definitly say that lead does disolve into water, thats why we arent supposed to use lead pipes anymore. I think whenever they flush the system or do repairs it kicks up all the lead and can cause surges in concentration. Metals can be nastey stuff, when they connect with oxygen and other things, I think aluminum oxide cause Alzheimer's.
That rowboat has been there for a long time it is there for people who don’t bring their own, as long as you don’t steal it you are just fine
wow this deserves 100k views. Great video my guy, keep doing this stuff you are very talented.

Generally they move before you get close enough to touch them with your car if you just creep up towards them
Oh no they shot food
Sailor Boy Media is doing a great job. Great work guys.

you are correct - thank you for respecting the residents- you must pay attention to private property but yet much to explore as there is a US forest service trailhead here.
If you're gonna do a documentary....ask the locals how the hell you pronounce names....ie "Wallowa"

My incorrect Portlander pronunciation of place names on this adventure is my biggest regret from this video. I've since A) learned better research strategy from school, and B) bought a copy of "Oregon Geographic Names" which includes how to pronounce them. As you can imagine, this is the biggest criticism we get on this movie, making it a mistake I never want to repeat. Big F. I appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment regardless!
No matter how much you rinse that jar you have some vinegar left in it
Well you almost showed my house
First off you do NOT pronounce the u in cornucopia it’s an I sound, wallowa sounds like cowa
You just nudge them with the car they move
The House you find @ appx 19:00: 1. Notceably absent in Dust. 2. What the Neck was in the Bathroom? 3. Neat Pine Ceiling.
1808? How about 19 08.
So far I’m only 12 minutes in and you were horribly misrepresenting the area, however I see you have finally gotten to something and you can’t possibly mess this up

It's dismaying that you did not look into how to pronounce "Wallowa" before making a video about the area, and mispronouncing the word multiple times. You were there, and presumably heard the locals say it. If not, you could have easily asked for their friendly guidance.
You can’t pronounce a word in Oregon yet you say you are from here
Very well done. However next time you do a documentary type production, PLEASE for the love of everything holy, speak to the local folks and listen when they pronounce Wallowa and other words from their little corner of the world! You butchered it the entire time……SMH

Yeah, looking back on this one, I cringe at my pronunciation. Early work. I live and learn.
