The Cornubian Batholith: Intro to the Geology of Dartmoor

If you have been to Dartmoor and seen the granite tors, you have probably wondered about the origin of this rock which dominates the landscape and impacts on its wildlife and cultural features.
During this lecture Andrew Griffiths, local guide, teacher and geologist, takes viewers on an in-depth tour covering 400 million years to discover the science behind the granite rock. He takes us from plate tectonics and mountain building to the granite intrusion and the subsequent weathering which left behind the familiar fractured tors, and the rich deposits of minerals that our ancestors exploited.
