Based on the condition of the wing covering, I'd start by stripping and replacing the shrink covering and getting it tight this time (though if you're in a hurry to fly, you could try getting a heat gun and reshrinking it). I'd sand the frame while I had the covering off. This was obviously built with minimum effort to produce "RTF" product. What we used to call "ready to crash".

My home town's local commander used a _Fieseler "Storch"_ ("stork") to flee when the Red Army arrived at the other side of the river my town is located at in the south east of Berlin. Not only could this plane fly incredibly slowly but it only required a few metres to land or take off, as was the case back then during the last days of WW2 when my teenage grandpa witnessed events. The historical (full size) Storch was a great short-take off and landing plane, greatly aided by those leading edge flaps. @@xavierrodriguez2463 the symbols meaning has nothing to do with is. Models are supposed to be accurate representations of their historical counterparts and their appearances. You shouldn’t wipe away pieces of the aircraft just because of the underlying meaning of a symbol. I understand we shouldn’t be displaying these with proudness or flying a nazi flag, but a BF-109 does not look the same without the swastika on the tail. I don’t like swastikas, buts it’s part of the plane and should be represented accurately. For example, if you took the insignia off of American ww2 planes they would look very odd and would not be accurate to their real life counterparts. I know these insignias had different meanings, but the point is these planes just do not look right without their proper markings. I’m not a nazi but it was a nazi made plane, and imo should be represented as such.

Plenty of posts on this subject but I will weigh in with you . I am finishing off a 2-5 metres Storch and it is an ARF from China. As it came there was no swastika on the rudder so I thought that I would add my own but then the government of Australia recently legislated that adorning any flag , clothing .vehicle etc would be a criminal offence. So I don't know if I can put one on my Storch but my RC club hasn't specified any policy about this so I guess I'll test the water soon and make it an easily removable one.I think if you couldn't put one on a model aircraft it's just another inroads on a citizens liberty

I would definitely get rid of the symbol simply because then it would be something that is appropriate to use and display in any context. It's very telling that so many commenters have a problem with it, and it's obviously not just historical accuracy that they care about. For those commenters, the reason why it matters is that people are still using that symbol to represent violence, racism, and hate in the current world. It would be foolish to pretend that there aren't emotions attached to it on both sides, and it's not something that should be displayed outside of a museum or a respectful educational context. It definitely doesn't belong on what is essentially a toy that is meant to be flown and enjoyed. What possible healthy fantasy would you be living out by flying a 100% accurate German instrument of war, exactly as it appeared during one of Humanity's most recent atrocities?
