That is a reason I dislike a slider control for setting the volume. Another reason is that after using it for a while I'm concerned that it will begin to develop a crackling sound as I adjust the volume. That's why I prefer electronic controls for volume, my player (Sony NW-A55) has a hold function that prevents me from accidentally jacking up the volume.

@@DankPods Simple to explain wy the large FLAC player sound way better. While your other Phones and iPods can play music nicely on your high resistance headphones they greatly lack in the amplifier department. The higher you need to set the volume / the higher the distortion gets. Having a large amplifier helps with lower distortion and can take the generated energy from your large, high resistance speakers swinging back in your headphones way better. If you plug in the iPod into a dedicated external amplifier it will also sound much better, although not nearly as good since you still have an additional amplifier introducing noise and interference. Also sorry for the way i tried to explain that. Its a bit hard when you dont natively speak englisch * If you like the sound of this thing id sugest getting a Sony High Res Player like the NWA 45 series They soud realy good

That type of USB port is usually pretty durable, definitely better than a micro port, those flake out in no time. 4:30 It is _technically possible_ to get 64 gig and larger Micro-SD's working; the limiting factor is Format. Modern MicroSD's at 32GB or below are formatted in "FAT32" while larger storage devices are formatted in "ExFAT" - by installing certain programs, you can reformat any ExFAT storage device into FAT32, though keep in mind that larger FAT32 storage will slow data reading from the SD card exponentially as sizes go up. Source: I own a New 3DS XL with a FAT32 128GB SD Card fitted.

nitpick: the measurement on headphones in ohms isn't resistance, it's impedance which is similar but different in that it doesn't just tell u the load of the headphones but also the headphones' effect on changing the timing/reflecting of waves sent through it. it doesn't really matter for the average person to know this but if u want to do more reading into why it matters to have an amp then it's good to know the terminology. Also i fully expect someone who knows electrical engineering to come along and give a more in depth explanation nitpicking my nitpick
@clark523
4 жыл бұрын
To oversimplify your nitpick drastically: impedance is to AC as resistance is to DC
@Jas7520
3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, another interesting thing about impedance is that dynamic drivers like those in the majority of headphones have impedance/frequency curves that vary massively, especially around their resonant frequency. Very important to understand because high output impedance sources like output transformer less tube amps will change the frequency response due to the reactive load
This video actually helped me learn about the stuff with the audio resistance that I didn’t know at all. It actually terrifies me how you can go deaf from the small mistake of leaving the volume too high on a device like this.

The "TV static" was likely due to a digital decoding issue. The actual analog amp circuitry in this thing is still fantastic.
I am now the owner of a 5th gen, and I don't know if I'm happy about it. It's all thanks to you mate
Hey, just found your channel last night and love it! Id love to see a series of products you love too!
10:48 I like the descriptive hand gesture for the chunked volume options.

Bro the whoa at 4:45 is the best part of the vid hands down.

Fascinating as usual, I'd love to see you go at the wild world that is audiophile DAPs some more. Like the Xuelin 1969 which literally comes with a tube amp. Or the Shozy Alien, a 150$ iPod shuffle. Even the more reasonable Fiio X1 drove me insane by implementing a scrollwheel WITH NO ACCELERATION.

High five for kick flips I do shove-its with my phone and iPod all the time, one time it cost me a screen but I'm still doing it Regarding volume on your macbook: maybe I'm talking about something different or I don't know what you were talking about, but if you wanna adjust volume on a macbook more precisely you can hold Option and Shift and then press volume buttons Hope this helps, thanks for a great video
I'd love to hear your comparisons with this against an ipod 5.5 gen, since that's well-known for being the last wolfson ipod. There's also mods for them that involve messing with capacitors and resistors in the ipod's output circuitry and I'm curious how well they improve the sound
*loud static* "Yeah, this one's my favourite!"
This is the type of device in shopping magazines ya read on the plane
This device is actually very famous among Chinese HIFI people. About ten years ago when I was first into HIFI, this is like the first proper HIFI MP3 made in China. We call them the 'Chinese bricks' since it's just huge and heavy, and powerful. The company actually has newer editions that somewhat resemble the look of it, maybe you can check them out.
I used to listen to FLAC on an old ipod classic with rockbox, it did well.
I love the wood back cover. It's like the old Woody station wagon of music players.

This is the most beautiful device I have ever seen. I wish everything was designed with this much artistry. Pity about the functionality and usability.
The part where it seems to shuffle the songs happens because it displays the files in the raw, unsorted order they appear on the filesystem - like, where the files are PHYSICALLY located on the storage chip. Most of the time (but not necessarily all of the time), this will be the order in which the files were copied onto it. And no, your computer doesn't copy files in alphabetical order by default. It copies them in the order they appear on ITS filesystem too.

The 32GB limitation is actually not a fault of the device, but rather a default of SD standards at the time. The SDHC standard only supports up to 32GB cards. It wasn’t until the SDXC standard started to be implemented that devices could support 64GB+ cards. Currently, this standard supports up to 2TB in theory.
Who needs frames per second, this baby has seconds per frame. A wonderful VU meter with a glorious 3 spf refresh rate, you'll see just how good the bass was 2 songs ago now.
