Baby, you can find me under the lights
Diamonds under my eyes
Turn the rhythm up, don't you wanna just
Come along for the ride?
Oh, my outfit so tight
You can see my heartbeat tonight
I can take the heat, baby, best believe
That's the moment I shine
'Cause every romance shakes and it bends
Don't give a damn
When the night's here, I don't do tears
Baby, no chance
I could dance, I could dance, I could dance
Watch me dance, dance the night away
My heart could be burnin', but you won't see it on my face
Watch me dance, dance the night away (uh-huh)
I'll still keep the party runnin', not one hair out of place (place)
Lately, I've been moving close to the edge
Still be lookin' my best
I stay on the beat, you can count on me
I ain't missin' no steps
'Cause every romance shakes and it bends
Don't give a damn
When the night's here, I don't do tears
Baby, no chance
I could dance, I could dance, I could dance
Watch me dance, dance the night away
My heart could be burnin', but you won't see it on my face
Watch me dance, dance the night away (uh-huh)
I'll still keep the party runnin', not one hair out of place
When my heart breaks (they never see it, never see it)
When my world shakes (I feel alive, I feel alive)
I don't play it safe (ooh)
Don't you know about me? (Uh-huh)
I could dance, I could dance, I could dance
Even when the tears are flowin' like diamonds on my face
I'll still keep the party goin', not one hair out of place (yes, I can)
Even when the tears are flowin' like diamonds on my face (yes, I can, yes, I can)
I'll still keep the party goin', not one hair out of place
Watch me dance, dance the night away (uh-huh)
My heart could be burning, but you won't see it on my face
Watch me dance, dance the night away (uh-huh)

I think this was a lot of people's introduction to Green Arrow and imo one of the best adaptions of the character. Went from not being a team player like Batman, to becoming one of the most humble and beating heart of the league. I have watched the Arrowverse version of Ollie since 2014 and even though I liked that version, this version for me is one of the one . He doesn't act like Batman and doesn't need to, he is charming and funny as hell. I hope we get more versions like this one

That "I'm an old lefty" speech from Green Arrow informs my understanding of what left-wing and right-wing are to this day. If the left wing says "The government must do for the people what the people cannot do for themselves," then the right wing says "The government must not do for the people what the people can do for themselves." A bit oversimplified, but it shakes out.

@@GDKF0238 I see the _parties-_ that is, the Democrats and Republicans- as both left-wing. Both liberally utilize government to impose, on paper, the will of the people upon the people. The only difference is what exactly that imposition is. The closest thing to a right wing the US government has is the Libertarian party, which is anemic and impotent. Its mission statement, however, indicates the intent of minimizing the influence of government on the people. I would call that right-wing.

You do not understand what makes someone right or left wing. It’s a government, it’s always going to act like a government. The left and right are not necessarily what you think they are if you’re just thinking it’s about who uses the government. It’s all about how it’s used. What it’s limits are. But if you have a government then it’s gotta impose some kind of will on the people otherwise you don’t have a government. Like by your own definition Fascism wouldn’t be right wing, despite it being well known as the furthest extreme of it, like Communism is about the furthest left you can get.

What makes Ollie work so well is that he's in just as much a morally perilous position in the show as anyone else; early on, there's a joking conversation shared by him and Black Canary about how Ollie just sold his company for a hefty payday. Ollie is almost as rich as Bruce or Lex, and that could easily keep him out of touch with the people he saves on a daily basis, but he's steadfast in keeping himself grounded and focused on what's right. He's seen both sides, the apathy and the corruption of power or status, and he keeps his head on straight through it. That's why Bruce was so insistent: if Ollie is just like Bruce in the beginning, he's also the more gentle and empathetic touch that Bruce couldn't provide alone.

You know how there's a lot of cartoons that are written with a kid audience in mind first but also with enough depth and nuance that they also attract a sizable adult audience? Well I firmly believe that it's reversed when it comes to the DCAU. These shows were written for grown up fans of DC first but also put enough restrictions on writing that kids can also watch them and follow along without anything objectionable or confusing. Maybe a few lines that would go over a kids head nothing that would confuse them enough that they couldn't follow the plot.

Decades ago I had a debate with someone over Batman versus Green Arrow. I won't lie, Ollie being "an old lefty" was part of my bias against him, and that he'd rather (at times) earn the respect of the criminal element than just stomp them out like Batman would do made me see him as weak, or at least less effective. But in time, and in no small part because of JLU, I came to really respect him, his kind of compassion, his standing up for the little guy in light of the large interests that don't care for said little guy, and even his viewpoint that "the government must do for people what people can't do for themselves" kinda became a core value for me (even if I think people need to take more agency for themselves than sometimes they do, but that's a side rant). Now GA is one of my more respected DC heroes. And as was said, he is the guy in the middle that is needed to bring people together. God we need more like him today. And on your final point, Stephen Amell definitely got Ollie's chest muscle definition down pat even if his live action incarnation was more of a Batman in a Green Arrow costume but he kills rampantly for a season, and he just bangs everyone in sight. But he's still cool. Would love to see James Gunn use Amell as GA in his new DC universe.

Honestly, I am sure how much of the comics you have read but in the 90s before rebirth Green Arrow was ridiculous liberal so much so that he was often made fun of by himself and the writers for it. Secondly, Green Arrow has a different relationship with killing than Batman as that Green Arrow will kill but only if absolutely necessary whereas Batman is even more stringent with that. That was what Arrow tried to explore in the first season because there was a point in the comics where Green Arrow basically abandoned this moral position. In fact the difference that people often miss between Batman and Green Arrow is that you can argue that Bruce became Batman when he was 8 years old while Oliver did not become Green Arrow until he was stranded on that island so a large part of Oliver's character is trying to atone for his mistakes (which Arrow also explored).

I would’ve upvoted but I can’t stand narrow minded casting and clinging to previous actors. The characters are bigger than any single actor. And I’d rather see mask than pretty face incessantly. It’s vanity/career move over proper portrayal, just like the Rock as Black Adam. James Gunn will pick an inspired choice and you will be blown away, Amell paling in comparison.

@@indatube I was referring to when Miller was cast instead of Grant Gustin. Even if I were to ignore all the shit Miller has pulled, Gustin is still the superior Flash and Barry Allen by miles. Look, I am all for giving actors a fair shot. And I do not agree with being pessimistic for the sake of being pessimistic. But I also do not agree with being optimistic for the sake of being optimistic. I agree with the original poster that Amell would do a great job, and he definitely deserves a chance, but if he is replaced it is either going to be good or bad. There is no guarantee either way. Also, quick side note. James Gunn is a great storyteller and he understands DC better than any executive has in a long time, but the fact that he called the Flash the greatest superhero movie ever seriously concerns me (I did not even think it was that bad, but damn did he contribute to the hype). Also, there is just something about how he is running things that sends a red flag up the pole.

The thing is, it’s the flash that keeps them honest. He’s the heart and soul of the team so they’ve already got that covered and don’t really need green arrow but he’s nice to have around what green arrow doesn’t understand is that the justice league saves the world which means they save the little guys.
