    I realize you do a lot of video work, but you failed to mention that this lens has a minimum focus distance of 5.1 inches. That makes it a very cool lens for stills like coins or flowers, etc. It's not macro but does nice closeups. Just my 2 cents.

    That’s true. And with a minimum focus distance that close, it really is nice because you aren’t ever really bumping up against focus!

    When it comes to “pro”, the lens has maybe 10% effect. 90% depends on the creator! So guys don’t be obsessed with the image quality! I have this lens and 90% of the case people could not tell the difference between this and the much more expensive L lenses.

    Thank-you for the review! Excellent. I use 2 cameras for real estate. R6 stays on my gimbal, 5D4 for the stills. This set up saves me a ton of time. I was switching my 16-35 back and forth between cameras but that was proving to be counter productive. Then I put my Sigma 10-20 on the R6, which is fine. It's a pretty good lens but it's a crop sensor and it's F4-5.6. Not great for darker interiors. I just couldn't justify spending another $2500 on practically the same lens so I could keep my 2 camera set-up without switching back and forth. This is the answer. I don't know why it took me this long to learn about it!

    Smart setup! Fortunately canon is coming out with some cheaper wide angle lenses. I agree with you on the expensive side angle lenses. For me, I just don’t use them enough to justify it. Check out the RF 16mm f2.8. That may work well for your r6 gimbal setup. And it’s really light!!

    I bought it for the exact same reason. I mostly use my 24-70/f2.8 and my 70-200/f2.8 for my event photography jobs. But sometimes I was in situations where I thought that right now I could use a really wide lens. These moments are pretty rare, but they come. So I was not ready to pay like 1.500 Euros or even more for a heavy wide angle zoom lens that I would then rarely use. When the 16 mm f2.8 came out, I was very hesitant, watched a lot of youtube reviews and came to the conclusion, that it was too bad for my work. Now, 2 years later, I thougth about needing a wide angle lens again and then there was a good black friday deal. I convinced myself to try this lens out and I couldn't be happier. I can put it in my small shoulder bag that I love without the need of a bigger bag or without kicking any gear out. I don't neet this lens for real estate or anything that needs the best corner sharpness and I still mostly shoot on my 24-70 and 70-200. But I can mix in some wide angle overview shots or some creative stuff for my clients. And I just loove how small andy cute this little lens is. So for the price I think it does a really nice job.

    In the R5 and R6 the ibis is very aggressive, which is really great for most focal lengths that are longer. The wider you get, the more noticeable the wobble will be because the aggressive ibis. For photos, it’s fine, it’s just for video and wide angle focal lengths it becomes a problem.

  • @mjpt57
    @mjpt57 Жыл бұрын

    I bought this lens last week. I'll be using it on the R6. Main reason is that I'm travelling to the UK in 3 weeks' time and I want as light a bag as possible to lug around with me. When I was in the US last month I had the 24-105L with an RF100-400 to capture my grandkids' Lacrosse games.But I had the luxury of staying at the kids' house and driving everywhere. In the UK we're doing bus and train tours so we'll be lugging our luggage everywhere. So, the 24-105 and the 16 will be all that I'll take. We're also doing photographic tours and I'm told that the 16 should be good for streetscape photography. Will see, I guess. As for Lightroom Classic it now has the lens profile for this lens so that's good, I suppose. At home if I go out to do landscape shoots I'll take the EF16-35L f2.8 with either the 6D Mk2 or the R6 (with the EF/RF adapter). But as I type this I'm going out later today to play with the 16. I'm going to take the 16-35 with me and will be able to do some comparison shots to see how they both perform on the R6 against each other.

    To arrogant style of talking, to narrow minded but for the rest a good review. Sorry but true for me so be more modest if I can give you an advise. (A 16 mm and the 50 1.8 are a good very good set of lite style and less prone style of photography and filming even if you have the 2.8 15-35 rf. )

    Thanks for watching! 16 and 50 is an excellent combo and significantly cheaper than a 15-35 😎
