The Change That Almost Ruined This Boss in Elden Ring Explained is about a boss so commanding of the stars you'd have to be insane not to glorify him! This is the story of General Radahn, Elden Rings largest and strongest demigod! A man so powerful he learned gravity magic in Sellia just to hold back the stars from moving. In Elden Ring, Radahn is an early fight if you'd want him to be in Redmane castle and Malenia the goddess of the Scarlet Rot had a draw with him making him lose his sanity and control over Caelid. The community of elden ring hated the fast attacks and unfair combos, but the long time Souls fans were all for the challenge! Radahn would have some controversial moves made that still stand to this day! I love Elden Ring so enjoy!

When I used to have to hit him with the same attack over a dozen times pre-patch in ng+7. Notice I said "hit him". Nothing to do with hitboxes. Oh and the hit box thing is technically a buff because it made his swords actually hit more often. 😂 You just want what you're saying to be true because you didn't experience it first hand. Also Ainsel river and the Lake of Rot have nothing to do with the battle between the Demigod* at the time Malenia, and Radahn, the lake of rot is where the outer god of rot is sealed, corrupting the nearby area underneath Liurnia, nowhere near Caelid. Caelid is more like an above ground reverse analogue of the lake of rot, as Siofra river beneath is is unaffected by the scarlet rot, while Liurnia above Ainsel river is unaffected by the rot beneath

I killed pre-nerf Radahn too, that fight had several things that ticked me off right proper. The fight was in a huge area, against a boss on a horse, but using torrent was a quick way to the grave through many things ranging from his nigh undodgeable arrows to the fact that his AI reacts to you getting knocked off torrent by attacking you, basically always turning a 2 shot into a 1 shot (I killed him on Torrent, so I got to watch my guy try to get on his feet and Radahn always switching target to him quite a few times) The hovering gravity rocks he summons in night phase did so much damage that it killed me in two hits, while I was wearing heavy armor and had some 30-40 vigor. The hitboxes were wonky at best, as many have already pointed out. He was also way harder in relation to the other bosses in the zone, while one can argue that it's lore related reasons, that never stopped fromsoft from balancing every other boss based on the zone they're in. It didn't help that he became accessible, and directly required, to progress a quest that started in Liurnia of all places. I will readily admit that they nerfed him too much, but he really needed a nerf of some kind. I've killed him several times since, and he IS easier than he was at launch, at the very least the bloody meteors in the night phase aren't immediately lethal... infact I'd say they do too little damage now. Outside of that, I'd say that one thing they could do right now to make the fight a bit more balanced is to buff his HP, I think he's too squishy. Still probably the most awesome bossfight fromsoft has made to date.

Trouble with Radahn at launch is that he's the boss of a mid-game zone and he gated a ton more mid-game side content. He seemed like a Nameless King-type optional boss at the end of a side-dungeon, but he wasn't at the end; he had to be beaten to unlock a several whole zones all of which are much easier than he was, with the possible exception of Astel who comes several hours after (and Tiche, but F*** Tiche). It's as if you had to fight the nameless king to access Irithyll Dungeon, the Profaned Capital, and Archdragon Peak. Given all that I think nerfing him was the right choice even though it made a really epic fight worse. The real problem was putting Ranni's quest in, and balancing it for, the midgame; if it was going to be gated by Radahn that quest chain should have been harder and after Morgott, but that can't really be redesigned after launch.

I finished Elden Ring just a month ago, but I'm glad I've beaten Rahdan pre-nerf. I can't imagine fighting pre-nerf Rahdan as melee build. I played sorcery build and even from a distance he was hella scary. Recently started my second playthrough. WIth all of the summon I've beaten him so fast on a first try I asked myself "That's it?!". Although he might have been much easier mostly because of all the accumulated game knowledge from the first playthrough.

My main problem with Radahn, or any boss in Elden Ring is that you are afraid to skip hard story specific bosses and come back when stronger. You never know what future events you might stumble into that drastically changes the quest lines. For all you knew, you HAD to do it then and there or you could get screwed over later on. Like, Ranny would run out of time or some crap. I've been in that position far too many times in the past.

Oh man, how do I even explain it. It took me three days to be high enough to fight Radhan pre patch. It was a love and hate relationship, hated that my methods weren’t working but loved how challenging it was and how much more hyper aware it made me. Really learning my movements to dodge AS MANY hits as possible and being able to read his moves/using his sound queue’s to maneuver around. The relief in defeating him was unimaginable and left me in awe with the cutscene that plays afterwards. When I heard about the patch and how nerfed Radhan was it boggled my mind because in my head I thought to myself “This is a souls game, why are they nerfing BOSSES?” Fighting Radhan with that patch just didn’t feel fun at all. It felt so underwhelming after it being so overwhelming. Kinda like your mom cooking your favorite dish then your dad trying to cook it the same way and makes it worse. It’s a somber feeling because you know some people probably won’t even have experienced Prime Radhan and won’t ever. I’m glad they gave back some of his damage but it just isn’t the same. Instead of looking forward to the boss fight, I now just see it as an optional fight that’s just meh. It sucks to see it that way but I just can’t fight him with the anticipation I had before

  • @found6393
    @found6393 Жыл бұрын

He's definitely easier now than he was pre-nerf. There's at least two major differences I can think of off the top of my head. Originally, on the approach, you had to dodge the black hole snipe on foot with i-frames, and then mount and outrun the rain of arrows. So you had to pay careful attention to his windup so you could mount or dismount as needed (or count his attacks, IIRC it was three snipes, then rain). Now, you can easily evade both attacks from horseback. Also, in the second phase, those meteorites he summons over his head? Those things were insanely lethal originally. When they finally attacked you, they came all at once, moved extremely fast, and killed the shit out of you if they hit. It was a blink and you die attack. A lot of strats recommended simply staying away from him entirely until he'd used them against the summons. Now, they attack in spaced out pairs, and move much slower. It's pretty easy to dodge them with a pair of rolls.

Easy is summons, friends, item spams, and so many other ways, and I'm not saying thats bad. No God no if anything I encourage it, play your way. But don't complain and demand changes from the devs just because you can't beat a boss and refuse to do easier tactics. In the word of souls games "Get good." And I don't mean that in a bad way. The phantom hitboxes on his swords, the halo of meteors that waited forever to chase you with literally perfect tracking that made them almost impossible to avoid and not immediately die to, and finally the Sniper accurate arrows and gravity magic were literally unbearable on launch. He's significantly easier now. His health feels lower, his damage is definitely down, and his ability to knock you off torrent and stunlock you is much less noticeable. His nerfs were ultimately warranted, not because of difficulty, but the amount of content he's gatekeeping. And as long as he's barring all the content of Ranni's quest, he shouldn't be reverted. I definitely feel the changes were necessary, as the tracking and range on some of his attacks was just overbearing. Even Torrent couldn't outrun the fuckers attacks prenerf and everything was a touch of death of you hadn't hyper invested in HP. He definitely feels like a shell of his former self. But maybe that's fitting, in a way. We aren't supposed to be fighting the insurmountable General Radahn himself. We're fighting what's left of him.

My interpretation is that they really designed the fight for the Radahn *Festival*. The player and lots of allies swarming him and defeating him together, thus the large hitboxes of his attacks. But players actually wanted to defeat him without summoning, as hardcore purists do, which was then of course extremely hard. By nerfing Radahn to the level of a regular boss, he became way too easy if summons were used, so they reverted it.

What makes Elden Ring easier than other souls borne games? They added a map screen, npc summons, and made the co-op slightly better than the barely usable co-op in all the older games.

He literally wasn't even that bad lol wtf also funny enough, I didn't even know the original boss fight existed with the crucible knight and the misbegotten until my second playthrough because I went there early trying to fight Radahn

He was nerfed for 2 weeks and then patched back to what it was before, I don't understand why people are still crying about it months later

Having played against Radahn both pre-patch and after...I think he is easier because fans were saying that the hit box made it impossible for melee builds. I was both melee and faith so I would pelt him with Lightning bolts when I got away from him. Now it's not even needed, I can just run in and barrage with lightning until he gets super close where I just finish him off with Melee, where as before I had maybe five seconds of melee before death was inevitable.

Radahn is noticably weaker now. Before the patch, his swords had a really clunky hit box that led to a bunch of awkward screenshots of me getting hit a half a foot away from where his sword was swinging, meaning dodging his swords especially was much more difficult, something that was still difficult after the original patch. The orbs seem much slower still, too, but I think he's pretty close to the original fight. Most people just know what to expect now.

Definitely way easier now than he used to be. Hitboxes on his attacks are still smaller, and his AI is less aggressive with stringing attacks together, more executing predictable combos at predictable times.

His damage is also less, but not as much as his hitboxes. And yeah, some differences in how his gravity spells worked and the damage they did. They also started nerfing a bunch of weapons around the same time and in consecutive patches. Definitely a time of lowering the power level throughout the game.

I beat Radahn prenerf. It took me many tries and a lot of learning to get him. I had to come back after clearing the hero dungeon at the beginning. I also had to go face off against the other 2 demi-gods before I was ready to face off against him. He was a mystical boss fight that required that I come back to him later to defeat. They should have added an option to weaken him in game with an item or questline instead of just nerfing him entirely.

All they did was reduced his hitboxes. He was never nerfed for his damage output. There was one patch which accidentally boosted his damage, but that was reverted. The very section of this video called "the nerfs" doesn't even show them. I read patch notes 1.03 myself. No mention of Radahn except to fix the accidental damage change.

people who claim "elden ring is too hard" likely just attacked every necessary npc or tree sentinel in sight, didn't upgrade equipment, didn't level up to a decent stage when fighting, used a horrendous build, didn't use good spirit ashes or didn't upgrade spirit ashes, didn't explore and upgrade flask, never even dared to touch fextralife, and then complain and say the game has too high of a skill floor, no it just has an iq floor, for most of that is learned, but some of that is just intuitive. however, radahn was tough first fighting him even starting after the nerf, so likely it was a necessary change

I played the game post the patch. I remember that I got him on my second try, and he was 1 hit away from death when jumping in the stratosphere... so yeah, avoiding the meteor fall was easy and then just one tap and dead. kind of... a hollow victory. It did not bring the same satisfaction as struggling against some of the other bosses. heck, the commander in the swamp itself kicked my ass enough times for the victory to feel satisfactory.

I don't even know if I fought him pre nerf or not. I avoided the gameplay and news while playing it so I can go in blind. On my first playthrough I missed 2 legendary ashes, and 1 legendary armament. All I need is to get those and get 2 more endings and I'd platinum the game.

I hadn’t had a fight like pre-nerf Radahn since my first time playing a souls game, Dark Souls 2. I died so many times against the Smelter Demon, it was such a huge personal achievement when I beat him. With each subsequent run of DS2, I still feared the Smelter Demon. Radahn was very similar when I first fought him, brutally difficult, but a major achievement to have beaten him. Now, every time I fight him, he gets absolutely stomped first try. I wish I could have fought pre-nerf Radahn again so I could see how I had improved.

I bought Elden Ring right at release and after beating Margit I headed east and fought and beat Radahn and didn't realise that I had gone the wrong way until I looked at my achievements and noticed a gap of 9 bosses between Margit with the exception of Leonine Misbegotten, after that I ended up steam rolling most of the later bosses since I had over leveled myself in Caelid. Looking back I'm not really quite sure how I managed to beat him though but I probably died at least 40 to 50 times.

I fought Radahn on the day after release. He was seriously tough; avoiding his attacks was extremely challenging, particularly in phase 2 when he went mobile; there was a homing meteor attack I never successfully evaded and had to just stay close. Maybe I’m better now but he’s a lot more consistently avoidable.
