The histories of the conquistadors, such as Hernan Cortes and Francisco Pizarro, are well known and documented ones. Perhaps less well known are the stories of some of their contemporaries, who may not have gained the same fame and fortune, but nevertheless achieved remarkable feats of exploration and discovery with their ventures into unknown lands. In this four-part mini-series, we will explore their truly remarkable and immense encounters in the New World.
All parts of the conquistador mini series, telling the remarkable journeys of Cabeza de Vaca, Hernando de Soto, Francisco de Orellana and Francisco de Coronado.

This is so fascinating. No other time in history is as epic as the encounter of the Old World with the New World. And just to top it off, after years of genealogical research, I have found out that my 15x great-grandfather was in one of Narvaez's expeditions... luckily the one to Mexico and not Florida.

The Spanish history is epic! I bought an Atlas book of Spanish Explorers and Conquistadors, and is definitely one of the best books I've ever had. It is a huge crime for the world to have forgotten the fascinating stories of men such as Vicente Yáñez Pinzón, Vasco Núñez de Balboa, Juan Sebastián Elcano, Andrés de Urdaneta, etc. One has to be aware that Spanish history told by English, French, Dutch and German sources, in many occasions is tainted by Hispano-phobia. This is false propaganda/fake news about the Spanish Crown created by its European rivals of the time. This historic phenomena is thoroughly explained by historian and Harvard professor - Dr. María Elvira Roca Barea in her book - Empire phobia and the Black Legend. Great vid - Really enjoyed it!

Great video - absolutely loved it! I've been reading a lot about the Spanish conquistadors lately and feel so robbed that I didn't learn more about this time period during my school years. The stories to come out of it are so epic and engrossing, and it's almost unbelievable that they actually happened. For those interested in some book recommendations, I highly recommend "Conquistador" by Buddy Levy (about Cortes, Montezuma, and the Aztecs), "The Last Days of the Incas" by Kim MacQuarrie (about the Pizarro brothers, the Incas, Atahualpa, and Manco Inca), "River of Darkness" by Buddy Levy (about Francisco Orellana, the Amazon, and Gonzalo Pizarro), and "A Land So Strange" by Andrés Reséndez (about Cabeza de Vaca and the Narvaez expedition). All of these stories have really stuck with me.

They say nowadays, "the Spaniards stole our gold" bu the fact is most of the gold was spent there in the americas, infrastructure, hospitals, universities, fortresses etc, once they were all Spaniards, because they had the same rights as the Spaniard in europe, we never had colonies, that's something the British do, that and spread the black legend.

What you have just described is the definition of a colony... The Spanish enacted a strict caste system among the natives, enslaved Africans, and Spaniards (who were at the very top)... Yes, the gold was partially spent to fund universities and infrastructure for the Spaniards in the New World, but a LOT of it was spent on the Spanish Armada, which was wiped out by the British in 1588. The Spanish also used the gold/silver of Mexico and Peru to fund their lavish palaces across Spain and the New World... Also, yes, the Spanish did import African slaves. (Into Argentina specifically)

@@jonathanrecinos5894 No, we hardly mixed with the Arabs and after the reconquest those who remained and had not converted to Catholicism were expelled. In addition, over the centuries, the populations of the reconquered territories, if they did not want to be Christians, fled to the south, so that in the end the majority were in Al Andalus. Even so, only on average 7% of the population have Arab or North African ancestry. The Muslims did not replace the populations they conquered, they became the ruling class. The same happened throughout North Africa and today the population is more or less the same as before the spread of Islam. That is why they could expand so quickly because their tactic was to convert to religion and then unite to conquer more territories with the warriors of the populations that they had already conquered. The brown skin color predates the Arabs, because the Celtiberians were here, who were a mixture between Celtic and Iberian tribes from North Africa. In addition to the Phoenician, Greek colonies, etc. in different parts of the Iberian Peninsula. The same happened with the Romans, who despite belonging to the empire hardly mixed with the natives. I also have to say that after the expulsion of Jews and Muslims, quite a few went to live in the colonies of America, apart from those who went to the Ottoman Empire and North Africa. In addition, at that time, purity of blood prevailed when it came to obtaining titles or reaching important positions in the Royal Court. Those who descended from those who took refuge in the north, in what was called the Kingdom of Asturias, were considered full-blooded Spaniards. So most of the conquerors came from there, that's why there are so many Basque surnames.

Good content, but you need to work on your pronunciation of Spanish names, because I’m listening to this and I can’t even tell who you’re talking about. Like, I just learned all this history and I can’t really even parece out the names of the guys you were talking about. Just some constructive criticism. Your content is good, you could just work on speaking in a more clear and audible voice and give better pronunciation to more difficult to pronounce names. Keep up the good work.

Todavía arrastran esas deudas y sus deudores no quieren permitir que se recuperen. Además México perdió California y Texas, perdiendo también el oro y el petróleo que poseía. España no tiene la culpa de nada de eso!! 😌
