When I was 11 I got birthday money and decided to buy the 5th book of the Narnia series myself. But, being a child I opted for the cheaper paperback instead of the lovely hardcover editions my grandparents had been gifting me. I spent years searching for a hardcover copy once I got older. My husband is the one who finally found a copy and gifted it to me. It's one of my favorite gifts ever.

This is why I have 2 entire sets of the Speak series. They re-released them halfway through me reading them, so I collect the pink ones at thrift stores, and the bigger dark ones were bought new at the time.

@@Hannah-K-7-14 best way to tell if its a good book! New books smell like opportunity and hope, older books smell like forgotten secrets and lore, and middle aged books smell the the person who read them last (which will tell you a lot about the plot)

even better, go to the library! it’s completely free to use so if you don’t like the book it’s no cost to you to their than time. even if the book you’re looking for isn’t there you can request it from a different library or even ask the library to buy it if it’s not in circulation. there’s definitely waiting involved especially if it’s a popular book and there’s a line of people who have it on hold but if there’s a reliable library system near you it’s really the better option. they have ebooks for free as well, like with the app libby

I have a large doc of all the books Im missing and what book series im waiting to be fully released. They'll pop up like reminders "Hey on this day this series releases the final installment" and I can happily go buy entire series. I tend to consider the library like a changing room: try the books on and if I love them, then I buy them! ^^;

The pause after “are you sure” is so real.

It's the delighted lunatic laugh at the end that gets me.

A suggestion for people (e.g. those who can't physically stand up to look at books for a long period like me or those who don't have time to look at each book: The Goodreads has a feature where you can scan books. When I go to any stores that have books, I take pictures of a whole bunch of books usually top to bottom how much will fit and then move to the side and take pictures until I get done. Then I either use my old phone to zoom in on each book in the pictures or I upload it to my computer and use my computer to zoom in on each book so I can use the Goodreads app on my current phone to scan each book. Doing that I can look at the summary of each book and add it to my want to read list on Goodreads if I'm interested in it. It's can be time consuming if you've taken a lot like I usually do and the scan feature can be a little finicky but I've found it to be really helpful for me. You also can delete the pictures when you're done so it doesn't take up storage space. You also don't have to write each one down.

i also have a list on my phone of books i want too. i keep mine mostly for this one particular used book store i love, but it’s about an hour and a half from where i live, so i only go once every year or so. that gives me time to make a pile of books and puzzles to offer in exchange for trade credit. i pay less than $10 for everything i get. (i can’t waste my trade credit, so it will be slightly higher.)

I will gladly go to a book shop and spend a day with her. This is my idea of a perfect day ❤

I kinda hate going to bookstores cause even though I'll have the specific book in my mind, it kills me inside when I walk past the aisles and sections full of books either on my list or one's I've seen in my recommended. Like going to a shelter to adopt a single animal. And so I always wind up with more than one. And I do not regret it. 😂
