Kinda glad we’re past the point of getting genuinely mad at media that’s heavily flawed or “cringe”. I heard about this from the nostalgia critic years ago and i’ve come to realize that if something gives you joy with how bad it is, why not celebrate it I guess

Say what you will about this movie, but the animation is really beautifully done, and the soundtrack is pretty decent for the most part. Also, at least Adam Sandler went on to make or star in in better animated films, like the Hotel Transylvania movies (actually made by Genndy Tartakovsky of Dexter’s Lab and Samurai Jack fame) and Leo.

Don't forget the role Roseanne played in this. Originally Roseanne was supposed to perform 8 Crazy Nights on SNL, when she was the guest host that week. It's the rules at SNL that everything you write goes to the host and/or the celebrity guest. Darrell Hammond played Donald Trump on SNL for decades, and was fired from the role so Alec Baldwin could play Trump, and the reason that was given was "Alec is more famous than you. He gets to play Trump." So Sandler wrote the song 8 Crazy Nights, and Roseanne was to perform it. But Roseanne graciously said, "No. It's Adam's song, he should perform it himself." And the song blew up from there. And who knows if 8 Crazy Nights would be the beloved classic holiday song it is today if Roseanne had sang it?

This is one of the first movies that came out when DVD was seen as commplace in most American households, and we got a lot of special features on that DVD release because of it. Way more than if this movie had come out in the 90s, or today. It was just the right place at the right time for DVD.

The film had two commentary tracks too. The first one has the screenwriter chat with Adam Sandler (in character as Whitey and his sister). The second one, which Trevor used for researching the video, was the director’s commentary.

Idc, what anyone says I love this movie It’s always great to see a darker Christmas animated comedy than most movies try to do. Also, if you like this movie Be sure to check out iron giant and the animated bits of osmosis jones They’re also done by the same animation, people who did eight crazy nights and they’re great darker kinda adult animated films too.

An animated Hanukkah so bad, there was never another one ever since. Maybe if this film was less mean spirited and made for the whole family, it would have been a classic. Maybe it could have lead to other Hanukkah animated movies and be on the same level as Rankin Bass.

There are worse holiday movies than Eight Crazy Nights, I'd say (and probably anyone else). There is one in particular: "The Christmas Tree". Released first on video on September 1991, before airing on the USA Network in that year's December. Still, I'd probably say that not much people saw it because they were busy (and would probably rather be) watching something else: either the Soviet Union becoming not much of a union anymore, or were participating in movie theaters' holiday season buzz (MANY films, plenty of which are family-friendly affairs, were released around that time: "The Addams Family", "JFK", "Hook", "Father of the Bride", "Cape Fear", and even a pair of animated films, "An American Tail: Fievel Goes West", the theatrical sequel to Don Bluth's film, and Amblimation's debut film, and the famous (and probably the most successful film of the 1991 holiday season) Disney adaptation of "Beauty and the Beast").
