Great video! Each role explanation went into lots of detail that could be useful for all levels of experience playing. Could you perhaps make a video explaining different popular formations like the 4-2-3-1 and pointing out the pros and cons to them. It would be really useful to help teams accommodate their players strengths and weaknesses. 👍

Hey Coach! I have a question, my coach constantly switches me between CB and CM and i genuinely don’t know for what specefic position i need to train. I most of the time go CB if we play aiganst fast/physicial forwards otherwise i’m an CM

Great question! If you have to mainly train for one position I’d say train as a CM. I say this because a lot of the things you need to do as a CM (being good on the ball, have a good first touch, be able to pass well, be able to defend) are also going to be important as a CB. But if you train mainly as a CB then you may not develop all the skills you’ll need to be as well rounded as you could be and if you’re asked to play CM it could be tougher. Does that make sense?

wing back if you can contribute to crossing in for the strikers or feeding the mid field when necessary.

Yes I agree playing as an out and out winger or as a wing back/outside back would be good options for your skill set…if you enjoy getting up and down the field and helping out your team defensively and offensively then try one of those! Let me know how it goes!

I still have no idea 😂 Playing with less skilled teammates: I'm the CDM or CB. Playing with same skilled teammates: I'm the CM. Playing with more skilled teammates: I'm the forward or the wings. And the positions I've been designated was, CDM/CM - From my coaches. CAM/SS - From my team.

Haha great question! Tbh I haven't watched Messi as much with Inter Miami but for Barcelona under Pep is when I'd say he moved to that false 9 role where he would drop into midfield a lot to pick up the ball. I would consider a false 9 a mix between a striker and a 10. It's not quite a 10 because the 10 has 1 or 2 striker ahead of them to play through balls to whereas the false 9 IS the lead striker. It's just that they drop back between the lines to pick up the ball which then creates space up top for teammates to run into. Does that make sense?

Great question! So they’re actually very similar but one of the main differences is sometimes wingers have more offensive responsibilities while wide midfielders may be required to take on more defensive responsibilities…I am going to go over different formations where I cover this in more detail so stay tuned for that.

A second striker is a striker that is positioned slightly behind the number 9/center forward…it’s very similar to an advanced attacking midfielder as they basically assist the number 9 and help them score while also scoring themselves. They’re often used in a 4-4-2 formation…does that help? Any other questions?

He’s amazing for sure. It’s interesting because hes actually said in an interview that he is more of a central midfielder than an attacking midfielder even though a lot of ppl still say he’s an attacking midfielder.

Classically, five and six are the centre back numbers in England with four being the defensive midfielder. I'm also not sure why you have two on the left and three on the right when it's typically the inverse. Regardless, this is a great video for people new to the sport. For such a simple game, there's a load of jargon that gets thrown around and can make things seem more complicated than they actually are.
