The complete guide to climbing Taiwan's highest peak - (Jade Mountain, 3952m) 爬台灣第一高峰 -玉山

My daughter (1st time) and I (3rd time) recently climbed Taiwan’s highest mountain - Mt Jade or Yushan (玉山) standing at 3,952m (12,965ft).
It was a truly memorable experience!

Cool. The path looks straight forward, but altitude sickness will still get you. I climbed Kota Kinabalu 4101m in 1992 when it was hardly known and it was HARD. I went back in 2000 and a path much the same as on Mt Jade had been constructed making it a lot easier but the altitude sickness still kicked in for me around 3700m. The 2nd attempt was even worse than the 1st. A German guy saved me he was a qualified mountain guide and eventually got me to the summit. When you are standing on the peak of a highest peak with nothing around higher it is an awesome feeling just like Mt Jade probably is. When I visited Taiwan in 2018 I wanted to climb it but just didn't have the knowledge of how to go about getting permits etc so your video is really helpful. Would love to re-visit Taiwan at some point and climb it. Many thanks for making. ATB.

1:28 the booking system was a reminisces of the martial law days(when they afraid of anti government or communist group hide in the mountains), when they got rid of the martial law, they found registration actually helps manage and control the number of visitors, and indirectly helps ecological management as well as emergency rescue, so they kept the system in some of the National Parks and mountains.

Only have hiking shoes, a polyester t-shirt, a jumper and a casual fleece so from your video it seems like I need to try and get a cheap protective layer, I saw there are 3 in 1 jackets you can get from decathlon that seem like good value for money? I'm just trying to be cheap since I'm not sure if I'll be using it that much/can take it with me when I go back. I'll probably try and get a cheap hat, scarf and gloves too.

The (Police permit) can be done with the click of a button in the application website (instructions are provided online). Even if you forget you can do it in 5 minutes at the police station next to the trailhead permit office on the day of your hike.
