All the best villains have some of the most tragic upbringings. I love how the Minions not only served as Gru's real family, but allowed him to become as successful as he was, until eventually, his heart was warmed enough to add the girls to this family, and finally found real happiness.

When you look back at Gru's life you could understand why he became a villain.He didn't have much love or respect from his mother and he tried his HARDEST to make her proud but NOTHING was ever good enough for her, he was bullied by other kids in his school,he grew up without his father and brother heck he didn't even know he had a brother until he was an ADULT!! He even got rejected by his childhood idols who he looked up to.Those minions were his ONLY friends and then they turned into his family so maybe he NEEDED them because they changed his life for the BETTER and so did Dr.Nefario

The fact the minions loved him more than his own mother is honestly just even sadder he had to find care/appreciation from creatures he didn't even originally want. In a way, they were his chaotic guardian angels and showed Gru he didn't have to be so cold as a person, you could say Kevin, Bob, and Stuart were his trial run children before the girls entered his life. Full circle huh? Or maybe I'm just looking to deep. Technically it was Ottos fault for botching the mission, the others did nothing wrong. Henchman or not, there bond is something special. 😊 Cute Bob popcorn bucket! He's my favorite!

I think the minions are the most underappreciated and overhated cartoon characters out there, yes they can be annoying, but they were the only ones in his life who genuinely cared about him, I mean Kevin, Stuart and Bob picked him up from school and smothered him with lots of love, heck they even went to rescue Gru when he was captured by Wild Knuckles even after he FIRED them! Kevin, Stuart, and Bob even saved his life from the Vicious 6! What was his mom doing while he was missing? Just chilling in her house like nothing was wrong… Wow, Mom of the year ladies and gentlemen…

To be more specific about the beginning, *in 1960 or I guess 1965, Felonious Gru and Dru Gru were born* as twins. After that, their parents divorced and each took one son and both twins were never to see each other again. Shortly after, their father, Robert Gru, passed away. In the Minions films, Gru's age was inaccurate.

I'm genuinely surprised we've never talked illumination on this channel until now! Great job, Isacc! Very well written and executed!

As kids we root for the heroes, until as adults we understand the villains.

I grew up watching Despicable Me and its an absolute banger i love every second of it and the new Movie doesn't disappoint because it tackles Gru's backstory giving light to how He became the Most Diabolical Villain and The Greatest Father

I’m really happy you’re covering Illumination, I feel like they’re the most overhated animation studio out there, yes their movies aren’t masterpieces, but they do have their charm, also, Illumination just got started making animated movies, Despicable Me was their first one in 2010, Illumination is like a kid who just started playing guitar, they start out schlocky at first but they slowly get better overtime, studios can evolve, but people chose to ignore that and it really ticks me off, I’m honestly really happy that some people have started warming up to Illumination thanks to The Super Mario Bros Movie!

Yes! Illumination is my favorite company. You should do a Minions backstory and talk about the strong brother bond that Kevin, Stuart and Bob have.

Gru's backstory is alot to take in when it's all said at once. I'm now curious about characters like Dr nefario, el Mach, balthazar brat and a buch of other characters from this franchise.

Honestly it’s really rare I’ve seen any analysis videos on KZread let alone Issac’s channel and it’s pretty cool to see this happening. I’m looking forward to what he has next.

Most of the time parents are usually supportive of thier kids dreams even if they are impossible or atleast tell them that while it's good to have dreams it's also good to have realistic expectations , unlike Gru's mom which straight up dismissed them and never showed interest.

Why is it the Minions from Despicable Me are so popular/iconic yet the Pizza Planet Aliens from Toy Story aren't? I've never been a fan of the Minions at all, but even the 1st time I saw Despicable Me I enjoyed everything in the film except the Minions. Part of the reason why they were annoying was the fact that they only spoke in gibberish & the occasional word, but I realized after a while that they are blatant ripoffs of the Aliens from Toy Story. Think about it: The Aliens are 3 eyed green aliens with oval heads in blue jumpsuits that often speak in unison & only say a few things. The Minions are 1 eyed yellow round creatures in blue overalls that often speak in unison & say even fewer things. But the most annoying thing about the Minions to me is that (much like a lot of side comic relief characters in animated kids films) they are far too overused & take away from the seriousness of scenes while the Aliens are sparingly used to make a quick joke & lighten the mood (or at 1 point save the day) then move on. Finally, while there are some who argue that the Minions are far more useful as sidekicks helpers to the main cast than the Aliens, l the Minions (as shown from their spin off film) cause a lot of problems for the people they work for, meanwhile the Aliens (as we saw from the Buzz Lightyear animated tv show) are actually scientists & engineers that are key to Star Command rather then a hindrance to Buzz & the other Space Rangers. Sorry I went on a rant in this comment, but I really can't stand the Minions, so it bothers me how "iconic" they became in popular culture when they are so annoying as side characters especially when compared to the Pizza Planet Aliens.

They changed Gru’s birth year in Minions 2 movie, cause Gru’s birth year is 1960. That would made Gru 16 years old. If it’s that age of 11, going on 12. The year would have been 1972, not 1976. I have seen Gru’s birthday in first movie of Despicable Me. On the computer read: September 28, 1960. Talking about oops, a mistake.
