The Compensation House by Charles Collins - Full Audiobook | Short Horror Stories

A full unabridged audiobook of the classic short story, "The Compensation House", by Charles Collins - complete with sounds and visuals.
The story tells of a young man plagued by a phobia of mirrors, whom our narrator encounters on one of his explorations of the lines from Mugby Junction. As the narrator interviews both the man's valet and doctor, the grim truth of this unnatural fear begins to rear its ugly head.
"Mugby Junction" is a set of short stories written in 1866 by Charles Dickens and collaborators Charles Collins, Amelia B. Edwards, Andrew Halliday, and Hesba Stretton. It was first published in a Christmas edition of the magazine All the Year Round.
Read by Elliot Fitzpatrick.

I love this collaborative storytelling, by experienced literary persons, who have decidedly imaginative craftiness to weave these short story webbings that connect with the Mugby Junction center; and as they were, I give my appreciation towards Charles Dickens & his contemporaries; however, for esteeming these stories, bringing these lines into a modern re:railing on the uTUBE towards our everyday podcast-listening ears, a great appreciation & tradition is upheld! 💙📚📖🪄🎁 For your production, dramatization, consistency & sharing your literary tastes, I thank you!

That’s very kind of you to say, Evelan. I’ve really enjoyed this little collection of stories. And there’s one more to come! I may return to Dickens’ other collection, “The Haunted House”, after this

I enjoyed this very Victorian short story, with its different narrators so well delineated. I couldn't help thinking, though, that the maidservants could have viewed their reflections in copper cooking pots or panes of glass in the windows (quite effective after dark)? And would such accidentally reflective surfaces have affected Mr Strange in the same way that mirrors did?

    Very Dickensian-who was Charles Collins?

It seems Collins was predominantly an illustrator who married Dickens’ daughter Kate. His older brother was the writer Wilkie Collins!
