    Another good video! Did you think it was ID #2 like the GEOS Ram drive? But it’s been set to ID #10. Is that a software setting like on the SD2IEC has a command to change it from 8 to 9,10 or 11? Thank you

    I wondered about that too. Device #2 is reserved for the user port in the C64.

    I was going to post a message similar to this. I have the U2+ as well, but, I've been tinkering with VICE and the 9090 emulation, and it's pretty cool either way you slice it. I haven't really been able to dig too deep into it as I keep having some odd ball crashes with Vice when playing with it. But getting a hard drive hooked up to the 64 would at least alleviate the REQUIREMENT to use the U2+ and I could get a few of my machines going with something like this. You'd still probably run into issues with protected disks though.

    @@Mr76Pontiac I just I had the time or the detailed information how the serial drive communication works in the C64. It would be cool to develop a wireless version of this that basically just connects to an SMB share where all your images are.

    How does this compare to the CMD HD in terms of functionality (commands), and speed?

  • @RetroWK

    @RetroWK

    2 жыл бұрын

    As I see it the CMD HD offers parallel connection which increases the speed over floppy. My HD does not. I don't own a CMD HD, so that's only what I was able to dig up ;-)

    That PCB - as I understand it - was only available in some C64 user group here in Germany. There is a website of the guy who designed it. Check the Link in the description (NLQsomething). Maybe he can give it to you.

    Eine kleine Frage: sind die Programme, die auf mehr als 1 Disk enthalten sind, unterstützt?

  • @RetroWK

    @RetroWK

    2 жыл бұрын

    Das hängt davon ab, wie die Dateien des Programms geladen werden (Nur Dateiname oder auch Name der Disk). Im ersten Fall sollte das klappen, im zweiten Fall leider nicht. Allerdings gibt es ja auch viele Multidisk-Programme, die inzwischen als CRT oder Einzeldisk-Images für 1581 erhältlich sind.

    The uiec firmware by Ingo Korb, which is the basis for sd2iec, was first built as a compact flash solution back in the early 00s, and still supports an at-ide bus. In fact, I'm curious if this hardware is actually running uiec.

    @@RetroWK Hello. One way to check is to 1. turn on the computer, 2. turn on the hard drive, 3. before doing anything else at all, enter this program and run it: 10 OPEN 1,8,15:INPUT#1,A,A$,B,C:PRINT A,A$,B,C:CLOSE1 It will report the version of the CBM-DOS in the drive. If your hard drive is not drive 8, you can change the first '8' in the open statement above to the correct number.

    That would be better in a smaller 3D printed case which would allow the Compact Flash to be easily changed. It would be possible to design the case to allow an easy transfer of the existing electronics into the new case.

    There some kind of kit available years ago, but as far as my research went, it was only available for members of a certain C64 user group. I am planing to come up with a kit, when there is enough interest. With all the other solutions out there, this is more like a curiosity.

    Heck I never knew C64 recognised MB's of storage?! Was there ever a storage larger than the FDD Double Density that worked natively with C64?

  • @bozimmerman

    @bozimmerman

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hello Paal. The C64 iec serial bus is a universal bus. It does not matter how big the storage is, so long as the serial bus rules are followed.

  • @RetroWK

    @RetroWK

    I guess the 1581 is a prime example here. Since the drive logic always resisted in the drive it's hard to define native.
