The Coming Wave of Sex Negativity - Katherine Dee | Maiden Mother Matriarch 4

My guest this week is journalist Katherine Dee. She’s a culture reporter and writes an advice column at her Substack defaultfriend.substack.com. Her work can be found in the Washington Examiner, Tablet, UnHerd, and many other places. Katherine has an encyclopaedic knowledge of the internet: contemporary internet culture, the history of the internet, and the effect that it’s having on society. We spoke about Katherine’s theory on the political importance of Tumblr, the so-called ‘male-to-male transsexual’ as a product of the internet age, why Chinese kids aren’t allowed on TikTok, and much more.

    Interesting how different perspectives can be. Me, I've been listening to quite some quality podcasts for the last 3 or 4 years. And about 90 percent of them have been produced or presented by women. However, the one with Louise Perry and her conservative thinking is not one of them, IMHO. Mia Blomgren, Sex and the State, Sexplanations, Good Girls Talk About Sex!, Alla våra ligg, Honestly with Bari Weiss, Trosbekännelser, Chatting with Candice, The Curious Girl Diaries, En varg söker sin pod, Sex på riktigt, Sex Out Loud, The Dildorks, The Unspeakable, Two Girls One Mic, The Guilty Feminist, You're Wrong About, Media Storm, The Rialto Report, Girls on Porn, Holly Randall Unfiltered, Femsplainers, Män visar kuken för mig, You Are Not Broken, Doing It!, Ihop med Josefin, Lovers and Friends, Lundströms bokradio, On the Whorizon!, Sex Power Money, Sitting in a Car, Skåpet /…/, Sounds Fake But Okay, Strictly Anonymous Confessions, Taxen och Terriern, The Dr. Debra Soh Podcast, The Electorette, The Guilty Feminist, The Sofia Gray Show, F**ks Given and some others are (IMHO). Maybe we should not refer to the coming wave of sex ‘negativity’, but refer to it as a realignment. Returning to a more ethical, less selfish mindset that predates the hypersexualized and distorted lens we’ve all been looking through for the past 5 decades.

    For my part, here is the really interesting cultural tension I see. On one hand, there is the idea of body positivity and a stigma against judging others' bodies and unfairly sexualizing people (especially women). On the other, there is a push to destigmatize porn and sex work... which is all about judging people by their bodies and sexualizing them. And seemingly, not many people have figured out that however good these two ideas are individually, they don't quite fit together and can't coexist very well.

    thank you for the great and informative podcast! 1) The bit at 45:00 about girls forced into a self-debased posture by intersectionality and gender ideology is spot-on, I've heard detransitioners discuss this exact phenomenon (on tumblr no less) as extremely harmful to their mental health, and even pushing them into self-IDing as trans to gain enough status to be allowed to voice an opinion. (Helena has written and spoken about this a lot.) also, with respect: please don't call anyone 'cis.' 2) w/r/t to sissy hypno (yuck), i've read some men's posts about why they enjoy this, and it seems like an inevitable result of extreme porn addiction. they watch these graphic videos of female bodies so much (1000s of hours), their brain essentially rewires itself to be aroused by the body being acted upon - not the act of personally engaging in sexual activity - and then they want, in some cases need, to become that body. This is one way AGP begins, imho. Genevieve Gluck has done lots of research into this subgenre and its horrible effects on male mental health, but be warned. It's such grotesque content, I can't even read research about it anymore.

    Touching on alot of important, culturally-relevant topics here. Shame that the TikTok element seemed to focus more on Katherine's personal usage of the app and less on damaging aspects of TikTok on young people's attention-spans (now scientifically-backed), and in terms of further facilitating the toxic and fractured inter-gender dynamic between young men and women from a dating/sexual perspective. I'm fully in agreement with your observation Louise, that TikTok is primarily used by Gen Z. Katherine perhaps is in a slight bubble of older TikTok users due to her being a journalist, but the zeitgeist on TikTok is dominated, and tailored by, teenagers and people in their early 20s. The point on 'Chinese TikTok' had all but a few seconds of coverage unfortunately, yet the fact that the app's content is so radically different for their own children vs for western children, is such a crucial point for predicting how our future world-stage is going to play out, and is very telling about TikTok in general. It's demonstrably clear by now, that this is a sociocultural weapon employed by the CCP, which whilst seemingly innocuous on the surface, is indented - whether directly or indirectly - to weaken, confuse and destabilise the younger generations in western nations, leaving the global stage in a position of opportunity for China to swoop in and take its place as the new main superpower culturally, economically and politically. A couple of other thoughts I had whilst listening: - The rise of ‘incels’ IMO is largely a modern phenomenon. Many of the men who I see as identifying as incels are, for all intents an purposes, not undateable (at least on paper). They're merely by-products of our current sociocultural environment and its ills. It’s interesting to consider how many of our grandfathers, or even fathers, would have been incels were they to be young men right now, as opposed to 30, 40, 50, 60 etc years ago. Obviously as you said, there's no way to empirically identify/prove any of this, but I'd wager that the actual % of men who are legitimately, and unfailingly, incapable of getting a romantic relationship with a woman, is very small. But the latest figures show that around 60% of young men (in the USA, at least) are reportedly single/sexless (by their own admission). Biologically, it's not really feasible that nearly 2/3rds of the male populace are complete failures to the extent that they can't get even a single mate. These statistics are significantly warped by modern socioculture and its manifestations, which includes everything from porn and OnlyFans, to video games and weed, and the fact that young women are on average now more financially independent and well-educated than ever before (in many instances out-performing men their own age). - In regards to the perception of OnlyFans and general 'sex positivity' (including views towards sex-work), we have to recognise the disparity between sociocultural acceptance and individual acceptance. The two don’t necessarily overlap nowadays, because we have a status-quo that upholds the virtues of limitless tolerance, aka our zeitgeist maintains “well, if it isn’t hurting anybody, what’s the issue?” This makes a lot of people turn a blind-eye to something like OnlyFans / sex work at the macro level, but nevertheless still not be able to ignore their inherent revulsion towards it on the micro-level (for instance, most guys not wanting to date/wife-up an OF girl, even if they don’t rage against OF at large). This will be the main reckoning for progressive liberalism and wokeness IMO - the fact that the average person is simply not on board with most of the ideas and 'norms' being pushed, but they ignore it out of fear of being cancelled/called a bigot, and turn a blind eye. However, this changes when said 'norms' arrive in peoples' own 'backyards', which is when strong pushback will occur.

  • @harrypike731

    @harrypike731

    Жыл бұрын

    @Divergent_Integral For sure the 'incel' phenomenon is not as binary, clear-cut and simplistic as a lot of people (particularly women) seem to believe. It's quite multi-faceted, and as you say, comprises both individuals who're genuinely undesirable (perhaps mentally handi-capped, physically deformed, dwarf/midget, etc), and those who simply cannot keep-up - physically, socially, or economically - with the consistantly-moving goalposts that modern hypergamy sets for the minimum standards of attractiveness in men. It's important to recognise that these two groups aren't the same, though some overlap can and does occur. I'm curious as to why you say you're a 'truecel' however - what do you think you have that makes you fall within this category? In more saner, stabler societys of days-gone, there would've been systems in place to ensure that even the 'undesirables' or 'truecels' can still obtain intimacy, or at the very least, could expend their masculine energy in an outlet that provided fulfillment and instilled in them a sense of purpose and utilitarian belonging. Some examples are Medieval Monks and other such religious folk, Asian Budhists, great craftsmen, scientists and artists in the community who dedicated their lives to that specific discipline. Young men who were unable to find a wife historically would've also found purpose in the military, which was a key foundation of virtually every society, with war a constant and ongoing part of life. Men need to feel like they're needed, and seeing as our modern socioculture places so much value on physical beauty, youth and sex, this further facilitates that sense of alienation and uselessness in men who are not physically beautiful and / or sexually succesful. The solution? Well, I think we need more - and better - male mentors, and a more meaningful rite of passage/coming-of-age for young men that isn't just "OMG BRO, I GOT LAID WITH STACEY AFTER THE FRAT PARTY!". We need less porn, less OnlyFans, less thots and more God. More social shame to instill good behaviours amongst the masses. And less focus on sex overall so that incels do not feel their lives are redundant in the absence of pu$$y.

    That was a massive wordsalad to get through. Summary of your second paragraph, “2/3 of men being involuntarily single seems impossible, therefor I don’t want to believe it’s true”. Pretty shit argument. The reality is that in the modern world, women will only associate with men if they want to. In the past, many women, whom weren’t ecstatic about settling down with the average man, had no choice - settle for average, or be a spinster. This isn’t the case anymore. If a woman wants to be single, society will encourage her, not shame her. Because of affirmative action, women are more likely to be hired for higher paying careers, and so and less dependent on men financially. So the only reason for women to associate with men now, is if there is genuine romantic interest. And, as we can see, most women are not romantically interested in most men. It’s as simple as that.

  • @harrypike731

    @harrypike731

    Жыл бұрын

    @@incredulousmidwit It's a complex, multi-faceted topic so requires a lengthy response. Word salad is waffle for its own sake, which is a different thing altogether. You evidently read it in order to provide a reply, no? As for “2/3 of men being involuntarily single seems impossible, therefore I don’t want to believe it’s true”, that's not what I said. What I said was, many incels are not inherently undateable/biological dead-ends, they're simply by-products of the current dating market and sociocultural pressures. Yes, there are off-course the small % of men who are simply just too ugly, too stupid, or too weird/autistic to ever find a partner. But they're the rare genetic fuck-ups. From a perspective of biological reality, 2/3 male humans aren't going to be born as genetic fuck-ups - its just that modern society enables women to remain in singledom for all but their most ideal man, which a first throughout human history. Indeed, the fact that two-thirds of young men are struggling to find a partner is primarily down to factors beyond their control (gynocentricism, matriarchy/longhouse society, feminisation of the media and pop-cultue, the existence of dating apps, porn, OnlyFans, the fact that more women are not going to university than men. The list goes on...) You had the word-salad, was that sufficient as a dessert?

    AI is probably what will end the OF trend. There will be much more personalized AI content with 24/7 'service' and it'll completely outcompete the bottom 99.99% of creators on OF. I could see physical sex work increasing again after that, because AI has taken all the income from 'online sex workers', so they have to replace it somehow. Perhaps in the near future there will be a large market for mixed reality sex work, where they basically project their AI partner over a real person, exactly like in Bladerunner 2049. So either it'll decrease sex work overall or it'll just shift it into the physical space. I hope it's the first one.

Probably more so than with OF, because there is zero personal relationship involved in regular porn. Perhaps even less time, AI development is insanely fast.

The stunt profession can be challenged by AI, but the other ones?

    Marcuse said all this 50 years ago in 90% fewer but more incisive words. This isn't a bad rant, but honestly, what else ya got? All moral revolutions in an overdriven free-market culture turn out to be short-lived hustles that leave people (followers, especially) feeling duped and resentful. If anyone thinks repressive resublimation is going to be any less of a hollow con than repressive desublimation, they should stop now, brush up on their Marcuse, and understand how revolutions and counterrevolutions under a regime of free-market extremism are bound to end with the same mix of buyer's (sucker's) remorse and turning to the next "solution" coming at you from salespeople.

I don't see how you can be a true feminist / advocate for women (and men!) but also support the trans agenda. They're inherently contradictory. Particularly when the person at hand is someone like Dylan Mulhvanney, who makes a literal mockery of womahood and is - for all intents and purposes - a parody of feminity; an unironic caricature of what the Right-Wing says that transwomen act like.

    Is it sex negativity or a promiscuity schism? Because it seems to me what's taking shape is more like a cultural schism, and what's at issue isn't necessarily sex but rather hookup culture, sex work, hyper-promiscuity, the sexual revolution, etc. Schism - "A schism is a division between people, usually belonging to an organization, movement, or religious denomination. The word is most frequently applied to a split in what had previously been a single religious body, such as the Great East-West Schism or the Western Schism. It is also used of a split within a non-religious organization or movement or, more broadly, of a separation between two or more people, be it brothers, friends, lovers, etc." The conversation is also shifting from solely about the social norms changing and moral degradation to is this actually harmful to women at large, what are the ramifications, what are the health and psychological implications, etc. Sex between long terms partners I think is not what's issue though but rather this schism of people waking up to the myriad problems and endless empty void-filling behavior of hookup culture, pornography, sexual liberation etc. and it's run-off knock-on effects such as greater risk of unwed pregnancy, STDs, ability to properly pair bond, greater likelihood of tumultuous relationships.

Then at 12 by a 40 year old man who manipulated me into a sexual relationship at which time I was placed in foster care. Foster care certainly did not result in any significant improvement. I find myself agreeing with nearly everything here but can not agree that returning to anything even remotely like the past would at all be an improvement. The one absolute in this life is that men will abuse whatever power they are given. History has taught us that men should NEVER be given any kind of authority over women now or in the future. To even suggest so is incredibly naive and dangerous.

This halfvbaked emotional take refuses to acknowledge the rise of sxual liberation and closure of asylums which are a HUGE part of the problem. Add to that women not having their family vet their spouse. Independence from community is harming women who in turn create more unstable children. You can't trash families then wonder why the stats keep going up. I hope no one is swayed by your little story made solely to bash Christians as if we're the ones importing criminals and protecting them.
