I'm an adult student that is sitting out a semester to find work. I got laid off before I decided to go back to school. I just came back from the Salvation Army to see if they can help me pay my electric bill (they will do that if you didn't know). I bought a bicycle yesterday at a thrift store for $20, because I cannot keep paying gas prices. I have not bought any new cloths for over a year, and the last thing I can remember buying was a pair of jeans for $8 at Rural King. So I love it when rich people say "you got to just learn to live within your means and stop wasting money on frivolous things."

You must ask everyone you know to vote blue, Biden has promised many programs to help the lower and middle class to live better conditions with essential programs providing basic needs for everyone. Healthcare, senior care , child care, better paying jobs. Go vote, it is still a right we have and we must use it to make sure Republicans will no longer have the power to take away those rights, along with abortion rights to women whohave reasons for not wanting to give birth to a child coming from a rape, incest or health issue that might take her own life away. 🔵🔵🔵🔵🔵💙🧢is the only way to vote to save us but also TO SAVE OUR COUNTRY.

I lived frugally tilI I could pay off a house. I'm never ashamed of living frugally. A penny saved is a penny earned. They all add up. Dont give up all of life's lessons add up. Keep hope

@Bran Evans I realize facts do not change minds, so this is likely for naught, but: 1) Illegal immigrants are not eligible for welfare- this is from actual immigration lawyers and not Faux News. 2) A wall is a waste of money, as most illegal immigrants fly over and overstay their visas (like Melania). Planes ----> walls. American citizens actually living on the border do not want a wall, especially as it requires the government seizing their private property. I thought Republicans were supposed to not like that. 3) The pathway to legal immigration must be made less onerous (maybe not as easy as it was in Ellis Island days- i.e., "get on a boat while white"; poverty doesn't matter; no one would know if you murdered somebody back in the Old Country), but less onerous nonetheless.

@Bran Evans Corporate welfare and other collusive capture from nonrepresentative leaders has, and will continue to, take more of your money than the poor ever will. Republicans gave over $1 trillion to the ultra-wealthy and the working class received nothing. Middle-class incomes are falling behind inflation. Do you get it? You are supposed to be making a lot more money for the work you're doing. The potholes should all be fixed. The bridges should all be reinforced. You should be able to ride bullet rail to the next state when you please. Your air and water quality should be guaranteed, instead of at risk. Are you directing your anger properly? Huge corporations are flicking your ear; you turn around; they point at the poor person; you punch the poor person. "You dishonor the poor. Is it not the rich who are exploiting you?" - James 2:6

One thing that she hints at - but which I have long proposed and wrote a paper about (though I had less statistics than Warren but childcare, housing, two cars and insurance were apparent) and that is how big business and the banks etc., took advantage of women's liberation by making it necessary for women to work - not doing so by choice and to stretch their new opportunities, for the most part, but out of sheer economic need. Money finds every opportunity to exploit. While the right used the issue to make women and men by extension to feel shame and guilt over circumstances beyond their control.

And the left uses shame and guilt against any woman who deigns to stay at home, create a strong family, etc. It is not only economic need that forces women into the workplace, it is also guilt. I know more than a few women who when not working, dread that question, "so what do you do?". Both sides use shame, and yes, money does exploit. Take a look at the wealthiest zip codes in America. DC and surrounding regions, New York City, the Bay area, Denver, Seattle, etc. They are all democrat strongholds. Money is democrat. Free your mind from the right left trap. That is solely to pit us against each other so we don't see we have more in common that different, and then focus on money and DC.

The issue isn’t big business. Big business are the RESULT of big federal reserve balance sheets now at 9 trillion and 40 years of ever lower interest rates. This may finally be coming to a close either through high inflation or a depression. It’s hard to see how they keep the Ponzi scheme going. Read the book creature from Jekyll island. Politicians and big bankers met to make the federal reserve. The middle class would be way better off if gold was used to force the government to live within its means.

My two middle class sons spend very differently. The older one is deep in credit card debt, bought a big fancy house in an expensive area and one very pricey car. He bought his house when prices were high and is now doing experience expensive remodeling and buying high price furniture. He has next to no savings although he is nearly fifty and should be thinking about a retirement fund. The youngest is forty and owns two homes, one big nice but not fancy one and the other a moderate home at a low price. He has a truck for hauling, a travel trailer so he can safely travel during a pandemic and a small car, all newer used cars. He always has a good size savings which he adds more to with every paycheck and no credit card debt. He pays it off each month before his payment comes due in order to avoid interest. He buys inexpensive furniture, much of which is lightly used. You would never know to look at it that it wasn't new. He did buy a new expensive couch for his living room and a large screen TV with Netflix instead of cable. Both have excellent electronics since that's their livelihood. They make about the same amount but their spending habits make all the difference in the world.

Her book "The Two-Income Trap" points out how it often makes more sense for one parent to stay home and be a full-time mom (or dad) rather than earn two full-time incomes. In part this is because of the high progressive income tax rates, job-related and daycare expenses, and the cost of maintaining, operating, and insuring a second vehicle.

But after 1995 I personally saw that declining. Companies stopped having X mas parties, exchange of gifts stopped with friends, now it is only emails and phone calls or close families getting together for dinner. So, in order to go to college in 1975 and qualify for PELL grants and a complete student age package, I had to wait 8 years after I turned 18 and prove to the state that I was on my own. And I had to prove that my parents would never ever spend a dime toward my education. Somehow, I was finally approved. I'm bringing this up because Ms. Warren is assuming that genius students have a family that will do anything to support them. Ha Ha! Warren claims to be Cherokee Indian ..... the 1/32 is at best flimsy. She admitted she wasn't even Cherokee Indian at all. Though she used her minority status to advance her career in academia for two decades..... early on in her ordinary career she claimed her false minority status in order to get the coveted harvard professorship.....,as we all know harvard was under great pressure to diversify. She quickly halted her false minority status shortly thereafter. The Cherokee have a big problem with her lying about her heritage in order to gain an advantage. When asked to meet with a delegate from the Cherokee Nation.......she refused to meet ...... still does refuse. She's a complete fraud and truly a bumbling idiot when asked to explain herself. Not racial purity police....just calling out a compete fraud who's career is steeped with stepping on anyone to attain her lofty goals. She's pathetic at best

It’s a classic flip flop long game that the banksters have perpetrated against the people. Firstly we were enticed out of our original village/ rural communities where we actually had security in that everyone looked out for each other, we had self sustainability in that we grew and reared our own meat, neighbours looked after the less fortunate and we were pretty much independent of any government legislation. We weren’t reliant on banks or credit because of this or Supermarkets which allowed the baker the butcher and the dressmaker the candlestick maker to prosper ( but not to the point of exclusion from their peers or communities) We were essentially Unmanipulable untouchables and they lured us out of this stronghold position with the promise of wealth, knowing full well how they would let us rise and then take it all back leaving us in the position we all find ourselves in today, hello FLIP FLOP.......basically then at their mercy, unable to do anything to make money independently without a licence for this that or the other, and the most hilarious is how we can own land and have to apply to the local councils for permission to live on it ! What a joke ! Imagine how we would have prospered if left to our own devices by now ..................community ideology that actually benefitted the people............. The answer lies in the past around about the time of the books Lark RIse to Candleford. They said the industrial revolution was Progression - it wasn’t it was a degeneracy and they knew it. Now we must give up their original dream for us as it was a ploy, to weaken us, we need to recognise this and move back towards the independent, self sustainable communities we once had, but were conned out of.............forget cars, forget credit forget keeping up with the Joneses; the Joneses are a dying breed, we should abandon that ship immediately. Forget school places for your kids and all the indoctrination that is prerequisite to that, your children need you, and need to learn about crops and living in family based communities again......basically we need to regress back to when we were together and could easily take care of are own elderly and young and sick......................no more credit or inflation or pipe dreams for the banksters to manipulate us with.....

Hi Cllass, this is Lina; I think professor Warren strikes a middle point between performance and communication orientation. She delivers an economy topic where lots of numbers and facts and explatation are memorized (performance) but whe is such an expert that can deliver the explatations naturally, making pauses, intonations, clarifications that balances the presentation towards the "communication" style

Interesting to see the difference between now and 2003, isn't it? 15:13 We spend 30% less than in 1970 on cloths, 18% less on food, 52% less on appliances. And that was 10 years ago. Today we can only guess this has continued to go down since.

pjamesbda Yes it is a little interesting. Unfortunately these 'calculators' rely upon the stats from OUR government. According to the calculator 100 bucks in 80 is now worth 287.... sorry just not so. i like the loaf of bread calculator...personally. In 1980 I paid 1.00 to 1.20 but in today's major chain that same loaf is 4.50 to 5:00 bucks which is apprx. 400 to 500 percent so why are the two so far off??? I tell you why, for the same reason the SS admin. for the year 2015 determined there was NO INCREASE in the cost of living what so ever and there for there was NO adjustment in SS payments to retiree's checks. Is this feasibly possible.?? ah NO. How these figures are determined are to support the governments agenda not yours or the truth's. In 1970 I purchased a new car. I paid 2100 bucks for it. A new car today does not cost the 287 per cent of inflation from your calculator even with the missing 10 years in the calculation. If I were to pay for a new car today it would be in the neighborhood of 17,000 to 21,000 bucks. and that's 1235 oercent increase... Wo where the fuck does your calculator get its figures??? It's like unemployment figures they are dependant upon who is currently looking for work and registered with a government agency... totally excluding unemployed that are not looking cause they gave up and unemployed that are looking but not registered with a government agency. Jobs created, how the fuck is that one calculated? omg it goes on for ever this hoodwinking... And I'm going to suggest something you will consider OUTRAGEOUS.. It is so you and I and Joe Blow will have children... 1. All governments are self serving. 2. All governments are dependant upon their citizens products and taxes. 3. The more numbers are paying and working the more stable the government. 4 Reproduction is the BASIS of the population the government is dependent upon. 5. Reproduction, the number one issue of the formula, is the very most important integer in the formula. 6. When reproduction of a society is theatened the ruling organization is the MOST threatened aspect of it. If you think your dollar is worth more you will reproduce. and if you think there is not a threat to your future but a surplus awaits you you will reproduce and whether you survive or not is inconsequential to the equation.

Charlie Hutch It'll probably be quite a shock (as I do the same thing you just did - and assume everyone on YT is like 25) I'm retired, and over 60. Yes, I have no faith in anything either. So there are no gov. stats we can trust...but I might be an old turnip, but I'm not rotten yet. I was born in '52 so I've done the same thing you have: 1952 Car: $1,850. Gasoline: 29 cents/gal House: $17,500 Bread: 16 cents/loaf Milk: 94 cents/gal Postage Stamp: 3 cents Average Annual Salary: $4,700. Minimum Wage: 75 cents per hour 2014 Car: $28,400. Gasoline: $3.00/gal House: $221,800. Bread: $3.00/loaf Milk: $3.50/gallon Postage Stamp: 44 cents Average Annual Salary: $40,711. Minimum Wage: $8.00 per hour Ratio Car: 15x Gasoline: 10x House: 12x Bread: 19x Milk: 3x Postage Stamp: 15x Average Annual Salary: 8x Minimum Wage: 11x >>>>> I did this in 2014 (hence the gas price issue) and that's precisely why - all things being equal, I think it has significant merit, and explains a lot of issues. After all, it was just 1970 we went off the gold standard.

what too many fail to realize is that both the elitist liberals and the elitist conservatives are corrupt. both the republican party and the democratic party are corrupt. the elite, whether on the left or right, are pursuing the same goal; THE CONTINUED POWER OF THE ELITE! people haven't figured out what equalism HAS figured out - capitalism leads to big business AND big govt to the detriment of all of society BUT the elite! big govt is needed to protect the wealth and power of the elite. also, the elite DON'T care if we're dependent on them through business or govt as long as we're dependent on them. under capitalism business and govt work in symbiosis to oppress and enslave us ALL! this is what equalism calls Econo-dynamics and both the intellectuals on the left who support big govt and those on the right who support big business don't want you to see the world this way; as it really is. one side says big govt protects us from big business and the other side say big business protects us from big govt! Elizabeth Warren from what I have seen thus far shows someone who has been fighting for the American people and really addressing the issues that affect the American people. As another comment, I'm 27, and I remember even when I was a little girl, riding in the car, or at least a teen riding in the car with my Dad, I clearly can remember thinking to myself, "How do people afford these things?" I don't know, I suppose I somehow realized even at a young age that it was going to be very difficult to afford these things; to afford a home, or a car, or anything really. I really feel that somewhere inside I just knew it was going to be very difficult. Watching Mrs. Warren's explanation has fascinated me because I simply want to understand what is actually happening, but in the wake of that I'm thankful for Jesus because he always provides for me. I feel very bad for these families, but without the Lord, it's just so hard and even impossible to make it. Even now, there's still some debt affecting me, truthfully none of which I have incurred myself deliberately, and even that I hope for the Lord to help me with because there is no way to do it all by myself, and it's not the Lord's will for us to live in debt.

Good comment Alice. You are right about people paying for today by borrowing from tomorrow. But it's not just consumers since the government creates debt which must be paid for by the average person. That debt is what is referred to as a budget deficit which takes some of your wealth by effectively making a loan you don't even know about and uses it''s value to pay for government programs including defence spending, welfare, and other social programs etc. The normal person cannot do this becauuse when they overspend they need to pay it back or be sent bankrupt and or to jail. When government overspends the normal wage earner suffers the cost by since there is no actual person named " Mr or Mrs Government" to pay the money or jail if they don't.

Lets not forget the defacto repeal of usury laws by the Marquette Decision in 1978. This faustian bargain produced considerable economic growth and allowed many to have access to credit, but in the end, it drove the lower 80% into debt slavery. Now having a credit payment is the norm not the exception and we are in a self-destructive spiral. No matter what we do to fix this economy, a re-instatement of usury laws nationwide must be a cornerstone of reform.

Rob Mews That's not exactly true. There's much more to it than that, especially since we are a capitalist nation and government.

Tre Gibbs You are not capitalist just because you say you are. Capitalist is a movement and an idea. USA is less capitalist today than 100 years ago. Capitalism is about freeing up markets wherever possible. Not protectionism in all it's forms. The USA is too protectionist big brother and that is the main weakness. These ineterventionist protection ideas fall down in most cases and do not produce effective results. This protectionism relies on big government and big government stifles economies.

In my opinion this speech is communication oriented. She speaks naturally without depending on any text. The graphics show her ideas.

My god, I want a Warren/Bernie ticket. Warren’s advanced knowledge of economics and Bernie’s populist approach to bringing about change would be a dream. If I could only have one, it would be Bernie. Not because I think his policies are better but because his approach is more likely to work.

I would hers is both performance and communication orientation. First because she is using the slides to guide how she delivers the speech which she memorized to some extent. Additionally, additional information here and there as well as lack of a manuscript qualifies it to be a communication orientation. Effective.

A better argument for a childfree lifestyle or for a single lifestyle. I (middle aged male) never married or had children. I intuitively did the maths.
