    @@cainmathewson1857 it's gonna be a recessive gene. It's like apples, many varieties on the same tree because they have a high genetic variation. Pick the ones you like and try to specialize them. I've got some okra I've been replanting because it grows some silly long leaves. Makes them look like floppy eared bunnies.

    @@joyannkjb4l250 Yellow watermelons were the original variety of watermelon before red watermelons, so it's not GMO. Not every variety of fruit you haven't seen before is GMO, they were bred naturally like other varieties. If it was GMO, it would specifically have to be labeled as GMO. Wait until you find out that wild corn is brown instead of the standard yellow corn that you're used to seeing.

    I've never even heard of any colour other than red. Pretty sure they don't grow here in Aotearoa/ New Zealand. No idea why we don't import them, though. We bring in all sorts of stuff from all around the world. Would love to try them.

    Never cut it right "off" the garden unless it early morning. The melon is cooler and the sweetness and flavor are better than a popping sun cooked one. Very nice melon.

    Back in the old country Mennonites grew white watermelons that are incredibly sweet (I've only managed to find one once in Manitoba; it was amazing). It's so sugary they'd make syrup out of it and use it instead of honey!

    When I was a kid, my sibling and I decided we wanted to grow our own watermelons, so we saved seeds for a few weeks and planted them in the front garden…and it worked! We named our little melon Stan and cared for him and watered him and he was about the size of a football when we showed him to Carl, the boy across the street. And then…Carl plucked Stan off the vine and dropped him in the middle of the road. Carl was a jerk.

    If you ever want an easy starter plant, cherry tomatoes. I was maybe 11 or 12 when I picked a couple that were growing in a neighbors backyard and my brother and I started playing in the mud with them back at our house. One day we forgot about them, and a year later my grandma called and asked why there were tomatoes growing in the garden.

    My grandpa’s family were sharecroppers who grew watermelons on the side. As a kid, he would cool them down in creeks. He had a sharp eye for the sweetest melons.

    Yes color can be from yellow up to deep red, the last one gives a kind of purple shade to it when it's just right 😁 I am in spain so we do have a lot of different sorts of melon.

    We had tons of orange and gorgeous lemony yellow and fresh watermelons when I was a child. I've never tasted something as fresh as homegrown watermelons 🍉

    The yellow tastes sweeter to most people it also has more antioxidants and stuff in it... But it's harder to grow... So hard in fact that farmers are starting to not grow it... It's good to see a home farmer growing them keeping their species alive

    Nice! I’m remembering growing 40 lb sweet watermelons in Texas in the early 60’s with my grandma who was born in 1892. Simple life but good times!

    A lot of fruit we have today weren't that color when they first started. We have manipulated the genes 2 produce the color n shape that will sell the most pretty much.

    Cave City, Arkansas is famous for their yellow watermelons. Theyre always way sweeter than the red ones and can actualy be hard to get sometimes because of how fast the sell.

    These are an heirloom variety of watermelon. If you can find them they're VERY sweet. They're usually grown in Arkansas due to the soil being favorable.

    @@AdaptiveApeHybrid Look up Crater of Diamonds state park in Arkansas. It's the same volcanic vent that spread ash over certain sections of Arkansas and produced really neat soil.

    The melon farmer near me says you should also look for bee bite on the melon. They look like scrapes that have scabbed up but are round

    It's the red head of watermelons. It's just one of the varieties. There are melons that have spots instead of stripes too
