The sad part about all of this is that neither one has lived in an environment that showed them how to have healthy relationships with others and how to have it with themselves. They are missing so much knowledge and experience when it comes to becoming better people. They both have the maturity of nine years old people and that's a prescription for failure. If possible, they should seek older and mature people they can learn and gain wisdom from. Otherwise, they will remain stuck at 9 yo people living in adult bodies.
