The Coldest National Park in Sweden - Abisko National Park

Episode 5 is finally there! After finally making to Abisko, I was able to explore the National Park and let myself sink in the coldest experience I had so far.
I truly fell in love with this place and you gonna see why! By the way I had so much to show you that I had to split this episode in two! Come with me and let's check this out!

Will have to visit again but in the winter... keep up the good work with the videos, you are capturing well and are good in front of the camera , I'm sure the channel will grow fast with this type of content.. subscribed :)

Lived at some point 4 months in Sweden. Years ago. As a Norwegian from Northern Norway I look at especially the northern part of Sweden as flat ,boring and cold on the inland loll But , it is true that places there has some magic lights.

Oh that house brings back 20 year old cold memories. I got stuck in abisko due to an avalanche that had blocked the road over the mountainpass to norway. i asked for a place to stay the whole afternoon but no one was able to spare me a room. i ended up sleeping in the car til the morning after in -37 degrees.

Hi! I watcched how many layers of clothes you put on. Did the staff recommend all of them? I who is living here in the northern part of sweden and is used to extrem knows that it is a balance between how many layes of clothes you put on before the clothes becomes an obsticle or to heavy to wear. Because if you have to much clothes, or to heavy clothes on you start to sweat, and that makes you freeze (sweat is wate and that directly on your skin chills you down). In short you need lears thermo underwares + socks, it´s a must! Then you need a layer that keep you warm (like something made of woll). And on top of that you need a layer that is windproof, for the chill factor. And then you need good winter shoes, thermo gloves. a thermo balaclava and of course something to protect you head. All together, those clothes should be light so they don´t are a obsticle for yuo when you move and aren´t heavy so you sweat when you move around. That is what i always think of when i have to go out and it´s extremly cold, like -35 or below. We have had close to -40 this winter, thankfully i didn´t have to go out those day´s

Hey Leif! No, the staff didn't recommend it, they only give us access to the overalls. I did some research beforehand and they (internet haha) recommend you to use synthetics and merino as the 1 and 2 layers, so that there is no risk of sweating and keeping the moisture om your body. Cotton is a no go as first or second layers. In my case I had to face -30 those days so I had to add the down jacket, otherwise I would feel really cold each time I stopped moving. I gotta say, I didn't buy expensive gear, but I definitely will next time 😊 thermo underwear and socks I had, merino as well 😊 indeed, thank you for your insight 😁 as a local you definitely know better than me!

I find so mind-blowing -40! I cannot imagine how harsh it might be! Next year I will have more time to plan such trip and will be definitely better prepared! The overall is kinda heavy but was my windbreaker. I had a hardshell water and windproof at home but with the layering it wouldnt fit me. So I counted on the overall and it saved the day!

@@after3011 yes marihno woll underwar is the best underwaer you can have I totally agree on that. And when you buy clothes, remmber to consider the chill factor the wind has so if you buy jackets and pats or an overall. It shouldn´t allow the wind blow through.

It is very rare occations we have that cold. Not even every winter. Some winters it never pass below -30. So about -40 -43 are extreme and unique.

And once again, visit northern sweden in the summer, june or july. so you can experience the "land of the midnight sun" (unless it´s not raining) But even if it´s raining the summers here are worth a visit. But be avare of the mosquitos if you go to the maountines or Abisko national park again

Hello! Were the snow shoes provided by the accommodation? What else in that layering part was provided by them and what all did you have to buy and carry along yourself? Thanks

  • @after3011

My accomodation provided the thermal overall, the boots, thick gloves and fur hats. To me it was a huge help since I got no time to purchase it and also didn't want to carry too much stuff during my trip. The other layers I bought them myself since they are also helpful for not so extreme weather conditions. Basically I invested some money on merino underlayers (also socks) and fleece layers :)

Hey Paul! This video was shot in the beginning of December 2022 (first and second weeks). There is a bit of day light and it lasts for about 2 hours only, and the intensity is similar to a sunset. If you wanna see what it looks like I recommend you to watch my other video filmed in Kiruna 😊 there you have an idea of how much day light you will experience during the polar nights. Thank you for watching 😊
