The Classic Rocket Stove Build
In this video I fabricate a medium sized rocket stove, insulted with pearlite and sodium silica. I also give away some useful tips for the fledgling fabricator. Enjoy.

@@John-zt3lv - Your pun is senseless and shortsighted. ...just the corporate white background screens will ruin your eyes and why so many interfaces are now going dark scheme. (see, the corporate idiots are to afraid that dark = porno and more concerned about that than your health). In all these videos I have watched(millions), first welder who brought up the fact that the welding light will burn your eyes but no thru the comp screen... I still don't watch that shite LOL! If it hurts(because of the intensity), that's enough for me not to challenge it.

Hey! Where's your mask? Covid has gone viral on the Internet ... Be safe
I love to see more videos of you making COOL STOVES and your craftsmanship on every little detail really caught my eyes.
Loved your welding and your text displays...fun and educational at the same time. Great Video.
Always fascinating to fabricate an idea from metal into a useful item. Nicely done.
Great job love your work I'm retired now but i used to do a lot of fabricating welding certified and a machinist and one day soon I'm going to copy your build on a rocket stove thanks for sharing
Nicely done, you handle that grinder as a master.
Right....that's a awesome wee stove right there.Very nice
I don't know why it is so satisfying to watch a craftsman plying his trade, but it is.
You do very good work and take your time. Thanks, Stephen for the video. I enjoyed watching it and I feel it was educational.
Great Idea, GREAT Skills, Excellent welding, JOB VERY WELL Done!!!!!!!!
You must be a happy person - your passion is your profession. It's a rarity these days. Hardly anyone finds the right way of life. You do a good thing when you make such films. Fire, steel ............. fun, nice gags.
You can really handle that grinder! Wish I could cut circles that smooth with the grinder.

Excellence at its best! I enjoyed the whole video. Great job!
"You really can't stuff it up as long as you live through the process." LMAO! Well said sir.
I love the beauty, of a perfect weld.
a heavy duty stainless steel screen mesh wire (cut round-square) as cover to hold the perlite from spilling over at the top...secured with small diameter pins drilled and punched thru that square tube only, will do the top isolation-insulation thing(thereby you can change insulation material as needed, some clay versions use wood ash as insulation)...and for the pot stand...spot weld or slide into cross-wise cut slits done only on the round tube burning chamber... thus isolating that heat from that square tube is another idea...(round tube burning chamber shud be cut a little taller(by few mm) than the outer square tube...[that handy rocket stove you made sure got me excited too, mate ...] well, just an idea working in mind here...got me busy thinkin' about how to better lower that outer temp., without altering the function...😉🙄🤔
You are Quite the Perfectionist...love that about you! Your doing a great job!!!
just beautiful - thank you for sharing!
That was awesome...skilled work and a nice product. A pleasure to watch.
Big job man!!!
Beautifully executed
A master of the trade !!! 👍👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
you have some AMAZING grinder skill sir!
Dude, as already mentioned your grinder skills are off tap. love you work and this is a really neat rocket stove. keep em coming. Cheers
nice stove, cool work, and good tunes
Man what quality. You should sell thta design on the site. Id be a buyer just on the design and craftsmanship alone. Amazing work bro
Mad mad skills!!! Wow
Just learning how to TIG weld for work. My whole facility department watched your video during lunch and loved it. We give you 24 thumbs up actually! haha. All the best to you!
Great video mate definitely gonna try that Love watching your videos 👍💯

The Rolls Royce of rocket stoves.
Nice looking stove. I need one of these so bad I'm going to try to make one out of brick to use in our greenhouses. I need you at my place for about a week to weld up all my broken equipment but I couldn't never afford you. Great job
You have a amazing talent perfectionist fantastic craftsmanship thanks for sharing

Thanks for the ideas. You are very talented brother.
This is a great little stove. HOWEVER...Not all of us have the equipment to attempt it. Not useful. My Dad was a welder and would have (probably did), make similar things including a proper wood stove with unique adaptations. Appreciative thanks for a walk down memory lane.
Really love your videos...keep it up

Your the best man... Your so bless of your talent and so creative. . 👏👏👏👍👍👍😊
love your builds covid gave me time and my tig packed it in....
This is a very cute one!
I tig weld for a living. From anodized aluminum to stainless. I dont put my tung out no more than a 1/8 tops, past the cup. I feel i get better gas help for a hotter, deeper weld.
Would be this Yank's dream to own a little Aussie Rocket. Creative technique makes true masterpiece.

I will have to work on that for you
Placing a metal ring that is wider than your pot and comes up about 1/2 to 2/3 the way to the top of the pot will force the hot gasses to flow up the sides of the pot. This will result in more of the heat going into the contents of the pot rather than flow outwards and being wasted. The diameter of the ring should be such that the area of the gap between the ring and your largest pot is slightly bigger than the cross-sectional area of the heat riser. This will keep the hot gases expanding all the way through the system. If the area of the gap were smaller than the riser area, the gas flow would be restricted by the ring and the stove wouldn't flow as well. This won't work quite as well for smaller pots, but it should still turn the gases upward resulting in more heat being absorbed than there would have been without the ring. Or you can make multiple rings for different size pots. The ring should sit down on a solid surface sealing the bottom edge of the ring so that cold air isn't drawn in under the bottom edge and cooling the combustion gases, and defeating the purpose. Probably the best way to have done that with this rocket stove would be to have made the top surface a circle just a bit larger than the outer diameter of the ring. Then make the pot stand diameter just a smidge smaller than the inner diameter of the ring so that the ring just slides down over them and they hold the ring in place. For the stove as it is, cut slits in the sides of the ring so that it slides over the pot holder legs. You will probably will need to weld some tabs on the bottom of the ring to seal gaps between the ring and the top of the stove. One caution, don't use a pot with anything but solid metal handles since the ring exhaust gasses right up the sides of the pot and will burn anything like the Bakelite handle that appears to be on your pot.

Oh, and if you really wanted to get fancy, you could make a "can" that has a hole in the top the diameter of your pot so that you set your pot down inside the can, then in the side of this can you cut a hole for a chimney that will take the combustion gases up and away from where you are cooking. For places that still use wood to cook with and do so indoors, such a system could allow them to use a very efficient rocket stove to minimize the amount of expensive and increasingly rare wood while also not polluting the indoor air with combustion products (even though the rocket stove itself drastically reduces the amount of unburned wood gases (aka smoke) and minimizes carbon monoxide).
Really nice one appreciate the video
Since I was a kid on a farm, my dad always said to look away when he was welding because of the danger it could burn my eyes. Funny, at the start of your welding, I instinctively looked away, even though I knew it wouldn't hurt me.

Yeh, she's pretty heavy!
Iguess i should have said this. I put my trigger on the handle so i can use my thumb to start and stop the ark. U learn to bump and tig. Cuz its full blast everytime. Its not like a feather foot feed. But iv done it since day one tigging. I hate the foot control.. Lol i just love the look of a tigged part. Its a art and its pretty.
WATCHING YOUR ATTENTION TO DETAILS MADE IT A PLEASURE TO WATCH. I WOULD SAY THAT IF YOU WERE GOING TO DO THIS ON A LARGE SCALE YOU WOULD WANT TO HAVE A ROBOT THAT WOULD DO ALL THE CUTTING AND WELDING. IT'S A PERFECT ITEM FOR A ROBOT TO DO.
Excelente felicitaciones buen trabajo
Яхши экан 👍😁 Яккасада
good job
I would have wrapped copper tubing around the stove so you could circulate water for a warm / hot shower if you're using it for camping... Expose the ends of the tubing on the back, so you can stick a hose on the ends. A small battery powered pump would pick up creek water, pump it through the stove and out the other hose to shower...
Great job like to learning amazing
VERY NICE, THANKS.
nice job man...
Great Work!!! I need to learn how to TIG Weld!!! I like the angled feed tube and the v-platform!!! Just thinking though, why don't you make a rectangular opening just below the feed tube which is the whole width of the chimney column and you can slot in a drawer to catch the ashes in and pull it out to empty it???...but yes, I know, simplicity is key!!!
good job... you got patience to burn buddy!
I love the shout out, for all you safety nuts out there. A particle mask. What about grabbing freshly cut steer with razor sharp edges with bare hands. LOL
Genial felicitaciones!
I like your builds and would like to have one because I can't weld in my shop. I like to build things but I'm limited on what I can build with. I have a cinder block rocket stove and have made several types of camp stoves and pot stands. That's the scale I'm working on. I think it would be nice to have a compact rocket stove.
Excellent welding, spot on! A welding joke for ya ;-) Seriously though, you're good, you make it look very easy, I can't do as well even with a really good MIG welder. For a moment I thought you were going to make the stove a water heater, that would be a great use for one. I've never made an air chamber for any of the rocket stoves I've made, they burn just as hot even when I fill the inlet with sticks. You have another subscriber now, I was impressed with the build!

Made beautifully. Thermal insulation is necessary. But I would make a deaf ash chamber and a grate. For the best burning of charcoal.

The drain cleaner is _not_ just caustic soda but _also_ aluminium flakes. What this does is release hydrogen as soon as it gets wet. Bubbles to help unclog a blocked drain. Which they used to teach in the first year of basic school chemistry back in my day.

cool job my friend:)
Wow you used a powertig to weld up the whole thing? I would have used my everlast mig welder for it all so I'm wondering if there was a specific reason you used a powertig.
Hmmm, a grinder in Australia still with its guard attached!
