10-12 year difference is not uncommon, specially past 30. The issue here is probably that she looks younger than her actual age and he looks older but imaging if it was Leo DiCaprio or Jared Leto, who are both older than Ed Helms. For reference, check the age difference between pretty much every male in Hollywood and their spouses or ex's (Brad Pitt, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Adam Levine, Tom Cruise, Dwayne Johnson, Jimmy Kimmel, Harrison Ford, etc)

One of these years they will cast a 40-something woman to play the love interest of a 40-something man and we'll all die of shock.

Yeah, I know. This girl I was going out with bought me that lamp--and it was neat but--I woke up and puss was coming out of her puss. I think she must've bought a defective one. She dumped me bc I blamed her gift and... It was this big thing, I guess. So now she tells every girl I date I didn't like her gift and to not date me. Fff. Ah well.

Everyone is talking about how Ed Helms is so much older than Amanda Seyfried but Ed is only 11 years older. Lol. He looks his age but Amanda on the other hand, looks very young. It's not the largest age difference in movies by far. Nearly every single one of James Bond's love interests are at least 11 years younger than whoever is playing James Bond but the only difference is that Ed Helms doesn't look like Daniel Craig, Pierce Brosnan, etc.

I'll see this but the way this trailer was cut made it feel like I already have. If it didn't look like a great cast I really wouldn't see a point after watching what's probably every main point of the film cut in to two and a half minutes.

John Doe I have actually complained about the age Gap between Margot Robbie, and literally, every one of her costars, dating back to the Wolf of Wall Street. However, regarding your question about Leto, if we're talking about a non Joker looking Leto in place of the actor in this film, than I can fathom a younger female being interested. He looks young for his age, and he has an aesthetically pleasing look to him. This actor, however "nice" he may come off in the film, would realistically appear pathetic and downtrodden, to any young female with the misfortune of working at a gas station, and probably gets hit on by multiple thirsty male's a day. Then, if that weren't enough suspension of belief, he's also shown to be poor, so poor in fact, that it looks as though he's taken her to some crappy fast food place for lunch. I'm not against a cheap date, but giving everything stacked against him, he would have to step up his damn game to be considered worth her time. After all, in real life, his competition would be multiple guy's enamored with her, even if she's just some girl working at a garbage ass gas station. The trailer also fails at showing us what separates this below average looking guy from any other guy out there, because in my opinion, he doesn't even come off that charming, magnetic or even humorous.

Cat Fight Right on. Your criticism is on point. He is depicted as a sad sack, no money having,worn out schmuck, with internet fame,his one outstanding attribute, being cast as a deficit. She isnt shown to be undesirable in anyway that would make her want to settle for him Oh, and we pretty much know the whole movie at this point.
