The Citroën C5 X Probably Isn’t Going To Save Citroen’s Hopes In China

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Citroën has been less than successful here in the Chinese market, and they’re pinning a lot of their hopes on the C5 X to turn things around.

"The centre of the volume knob rotates with"....I mean, seriously? Based on this review, yours must be a very different car to the ones sent to Europe judging from the reviews by serious motoring journalists! And adjusting the position of the HUD using the same button as the electric mirror control is surely just a brilliant idea!

No idea what car you tested. but the C5 X PHEV! I was driving yesterday was absolutely great. None of the negatives things you mention here were in my version of the car. I watched many other youtube videos and they all are very very positive. And why do you want buttons for every function? This car has already many many more buttons then any other modern car and then I understand that Citroen chooses to provides certain functionality via the screen. A HUD at this pricepoint is unique, you don't get this on a KIA Sportage or VW Touareg at the same price. With wihch cars are you comparing this one ?

this was a bit lame... the only thing we can conclude about this car is that you didn't like it! or even understood it... because, even the videos of static presentations were more informative than this. I know that opinions and tastes are like "a*s holes", each of us have one (and its own), but to say that the infotainment system is "not very good to use" without a viable reason why, is... well, as "credible" as your "volume button argument"...😂. I would understand if you said that it is laggy, difficult to read, overcomplicated to use, not adjustable enough to one's personal use&preference (because unlike vast majority of cars I.S., this one IS adjustable, even the static pre-production model presentations demonstrated that). in fact, except of giving us your own and "rather bias by your taste" opinion, you failed to give us a single viable information about the car's systems and functions, its perceived and actual build quality, its handling and performance, its comfort and practicality, about the cabin ambiance while traveling, etc., etc... in short, about its character! btw.: I own Peugeot 508SW Mk2 that most likely have the same lvl2 drive assist system and 8 speed torque converter automatic transmission... and I haven't noticed a single thing you said about both of them while "testing" this C5X... they both preform admirably and well within of their limitations (torque converter is not dual clutch and lvl2 drive assist is not "self-driving" tool)... I use them both almost daily, and they are a pleasure to use, especially on highway, together with radar tempomat function...

ALL legacy French cars roll to some degree or other ..I wouldn't necessarily call it a fault.. It's a pity tho that Stellantis can't cut Citroen some slack and allow them to install the hydropneumatics that their famous for. The power doesn't really matter but the cruising ability and comfort should be beyond reproach in a large Citroen. Interesting styling ..They were the first to put the indicators above the lights (Picasso) but I do consider the front lighting design droops a little too much.

I agree, no everybody cares so highly about being hugged into their bucket seats and onto the road. French cars have grasped a market identity for comfort. PSA stopped investing in the brilliant hydropneumatics by the 2000s in a bid to appease to "normal" German/English tastes and competition, especially during the economic crash. Stellantis should consider it though. A 48 volt system is more than capable.

In China, the C5 X enabled Citroën to revive its sales in 2021, becoming Citroën's best-selling vehicle in its first year with 14,152 units sold. The trend continued in 2022, when Citroën sold more than 46,000 C5 X in China, making it by far the best seller of the year, but also making the large Citroën the best-selling car of the Stellantis group in China.

Fundamentally flawed review. The centre of volume button turns with button - is there one on any car that doesn't? Centre of steering wheel also turns with wheel - I assume this would cause you even greater angst? Adjustment of HUD via rear vision mirror toggle switch is brilliant. BMW drivers, some of whom pay more than double the price of this car, would love to be able to adjust HUD positioning etc using a switch (rather than menus). Pedantic criticism that finer adjustment is done via menu could be applied to air conditioning (both hard switches and menu adjustment), lights (DRLs) and many other features. The transmission is basically an Aisin 8 speed (referred to as EAT8 here) used in many other vehicles including Lexus, Volvo etc and you profess to know how to get it to change gears better? Are you suggesting a dual clutch transmission that hamstrings many of the more expensive cars as an alternative? You seem to miss the point completely that this car does not aim to compete with Porshe, Ferrari etc. As is the case with Rolls, the resulting ride is what attracts some of us to it. Have read about 10 reviews on this car and none mention the vibration in steering wheel. Didn't see any evidence of it in your video either. What do you mean by 'Auto Hold' - Aisin transmissions have Hill Start Assist (assume this is what you mean). Or do you mean hill descent, relevant for offroad vehicles? To operate either seat heating or cooling in a Series 7 BMW requires not only activating a hard switch but choosing temperature in the menu as well. They would love to be able to select heat warmers by switch alone. When you show such blatant bias, your review is of no value to anyone.

I was hoping this would be a helpful insight but it really offers nothing of use to the European market. EU market vehicles have totally different tuning for the damping, the specifications are different and the software has usually been through numerous bug fixes by the time the vehicles are released. European journalists have already commented on the interior and media system based on European specification vehicles so there is no value reviewing an early Chinese specification version. What we need is to see a finished European specification version on European roads which this review does nothing to help with.

You don't explain what's wrong with the infotainment system, just say it's bad with no explanation as to why. RE the heads up display. Brightness I'd imagine is something rarely adjusted so why clutter the cabin with additional buttons? They use the mirror control joystick as it's an existing control which is too hand when you are sitting square to the steering wheel in your driving position as you would be driving. If it was controlled using the touchscreen you'd need to shift the HDU, sit back and check, shift again. Would have thought this obvious human factors interface stuff for reviewing a car.

Thank you for your feedback, you make a good point about not being more specific with our criticism. Frankly, it was a question of time constraints, but we’re happy to elaborate in this space. The main issues were related to the fact that the UI made simple things like going back to the previous page more difficult than it needed to be. It also overcomplicated things like changing the info available on the instrument cluster, and often buried commonly used features three layers deep in the menu. As for the HUD adjustment, we can’t deny that it’s not something you need to change all the time, but having a physical button available is always our preferred option, especially when the infotainment is not as easy to use as it should be. We also agree with you as far as why they likely don’t have a physical button for the heated seats, but other companies find more elegant solutions to this problem and so could Citroën, this isn’t exactly their first car after all. It seems like a costing saving move at the expense of user experience.

  • @dt8101

He is also completely wrong when he said user can only turn on heating seat but cannot turn on cooling seat through the physical button. The truth is that user only need to toggle between heating/cooling button setting through touch screen. After the setting is done, user can use the physical button to turn on cooling seat. I think this is very convenient, because user only need to change the setting twice a year (for example during Spring when it is getting hot or during Autumn when it is getting cold). Once the setting is done, physical button can be used to turn on either cooling or heating.

It's not difficult to know that it's a volume nob.... Why didn't you mention the fact that chineese new brands install big homescreens just for..... modernity I guess ?, but very unpersonal and useless. The car looks special and stylish (but not in white) and has something different in overall. All chinese cars (EV especially) are boring

... every car reviewer over explain things and a great deal of them (if not all) would explain the volume knob. you never demonstrate something without saying what it does, literally reviewing 101 and way to go dismissing an entire country industry as "boring" pretending not every country has boring and funky cars. there are plenty of quirky Chinese cars... even more this cars looks fine, but it isn't as special as you are pretending to be, its the Citroen design that's been around since the reintroduction of the DS badge, only thing different is the rear 3/4's

Why are you reciting many things NO38 said? Are you his sidekick? It is also interesting you said many detailed negative things about this car, which you normally don't even have time to mention in other review videos because your other review videos rarely run over 10 mins. Citroen didn't pay you enough for this PR stunt?

cause the car is quite problematic. as the first EMP2V3 car, C5X is not as well tuned as EMP2V2 cars like 508 and 408.

Your comments are very much like the Citroen manufacturer PR discourse on Chinese social media, shutting up about the lack of product competitiveness and misdirected product promotion and attacking the person who raised the issue.

Such disrespectful remarks (perhaps directed by the manufacturer's PR forces) will only worsen the Citroen brand's deteriorating position in the Chinese market. Chinese consumers are not that stupid.

"Why did they do that? Why did they separate them like that?" It's a French thing. If a thing can be done difficultly, the French will find a way, whether it's ergonomics or mechanical stuff. French cars rank at the bottom in terms of reliability in most of the world, and China is no exception - that's the real reason this car won't sell.

i think there is a reason why french cars don't sell very much in China and they are absent in Usa and Canada; they are among the worst cars on sale today. In europe, where many people have limited budget on cars and also they don't care if the vehicles are slow, uncomfortable and not very spacious, they do well. Simple like that.

There are just way too much competition in those markets. If I just want something dirt cheap to get around the town in China, domestic brands can do the job with half the price of C5X and more technology. PSA simply hasn't figured out what each market really wants. They are just pumping out lazy crossovers that aren't gonna take the brand anywhere.
