The Circle Maker Group Bible Study by Mark Batterson.
In the The Circle Maker Group Bible Study, Mark Batterson teaches that God loves to make promises. He invites us to draw a circle around those promises and pray until we see them become a reality.
In this first session of The Circle Maker video curriculum, pastor and author Mark Batterson shows that God is inviting you into the adventure of seeing His dreams come true in this world. This happens as we make the decision to become circle makers.
This dynamic four-session video-based curriculum reveals the true legend of Honi the circle maker, a first-century sage whose bold prayer for rain saved a generation. With insightful teaching and inspiring stories, Mark Batterson will teach you how to pray in a new way. You'll learn how to draw prayer circles around your dreams, your family, and most importantly, the promises of God.
Session titles include:
1. Becoming a Circle Maker
2. Little People, Big Risks, and Huge Circles
3, Praying Hard and Praying Through
4. Praying is Like Planting

Folks, The Bible teaches to be persistent in prayer. That is what Mark's book is about. Matthew 7:7 "Keep on asking, and you will be given what you ask for..." Luke 18:7 "...So don't you think God will surely give justice to his chosen people who plead with him day and night?" Phil 4:6 "Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything." Psalm 88:13 "O LORD, I cry out to you. I will keep on pleading day by day”

My friend, I think if prayer circles were so important, they would be taught in the pages of scripture. 2 Timothy 3:16 tells us SCRIPTURE, not thousands of years of Jewish legend, is where we get our practices from. I just don't remember Jesus teaching the Disciples anything about prayer circles, literal or figurative. In fact, I don't need a circle when I can make a straight line to the Father to seek His will and make my petitions known. I trust scripture more than any pastor.

Just finished The Circle Maker. This has changed the way I pray. These are all Biblical Principals. It is not "Name it and Claim it" . He wants us to know what we are praying for and how to pray long and hard for what we want and often the prayers are changed to what God wants us to pray for us. Always His Will. Our home has been on the market almost a year. We decided to do the Jericho March as in the book of Joshua. That is all praying in circles is . God wants everything covered in prayer and then praising Him for what He answers and says wait for and the "No's " that keep us from making mistakes. This guy is really right on - not trying to lure you away from God but to have a closer walk with the God and our Savior Jesus Christ.

Amen Diana! This book is a life changer because it causes me to focus more on what God wants in my life and being in alignment with HIS will rather than my own. Being specific about my prayers makes it so much easier to see how God is answering, yes or no, so that I am able to praise Him in both the yes AND the no. It has caused me to be very focused and dedicated daily to prayer for those I love and for the needs of my family and my church. It has created an ongoing conversation with God that has been one of the greatest blessings of my life. Praying with persistence and clarity.

@@MrsBrownGnome Prayer works, and God is amazing. We have walked circles around our home, praying daily, walking 7 times around it on the 7th day. We sold our home in Sept and moved in with one of our kids. We recently found a new place to live and moved in 2 weeks ago just before Thanksgiving. We are praying around this home and asking God to show us how He wants to use it for His Glory. I love the way God works in our lives, new season, new adventure. God Bless.

Mark, thank you for sharing the impact that prayer has had on your life. My faith - confidence in God - grows as I hear how God has answered the prayers of my brothers and sisters. I especially appreciate your suggestion to be deliberate about searching for what God wants us to be praying about, each of us is in a unique situation where we can make a difference if we will only be about seeking after what God is calling us to do.

+Rebecca Lehman According to this guy, reading the Bible's not enough, you shouldn't pray for wisdom but power (we need more power without wisdom, right?), we should follow a LEGEND instead of scripture... what is he on? He also has that unique BS "christian" way of smooth talking people into a prosperity gospel "God does what you want" lie. Where is this "circle around what you want" in scripture? We're not Joshua. Pray and stick to scripture. I need to do the same.

Mark's book seemed very appealing to me when I first read the summary and listened to a sample of it but as I do with everything before making a decision, I began to dig deeper and investigate. I found this video and several other publications and videos filmed as advertisements for this series of books and I was astonished. 1. What do circles have anything to do with praying, receiving blessings from God, or the bible in general? Did God need to draw circles to create the Heavens and the Earth or every living thing? NO, so why would he require us to do this in order to answer our prayers? Christian brothers and sisters, wake up! What are you thinking? Are you really that bored with the word of the ALL MIGHTY that you latch on to any and every new gimmick these false teachers spew?! All you need is the Bible and your mind to connect with God, be saved, and received blessings ( the blessings that He has in store for you not just the blessings that you imagine for yourself). 2. Who the heck Honi? Why is Mark Batterson idolizing him as an example and even further, why is he pushing Honi's beliefs throughout the nation instead of JESUS' or GOD's? 3. Honi's story, told from the very own mouth of Mark Batterson describes a man that lacks patience and obedience not a man that we should model our lives and actions after. Honi was unwilling to wait for God's will to be done. He rebelled and decided to attempt some ridiculous symbolic gesture and then continue to not request but COMMAND God himself for the things that he and the community wanted ( i.e. rain, favor, blessings, and graciousness). Not only did he command God once but then the rain God sent was not good enough, he proceeded to DEMAND for more rain and of the specific type he wanted. This goes entirely against God and his word. We are to be patient and wait for blessings to come to us. Yes, we should pray boldly and frequently but for GOD's will to be done NOT OUR OWN. 4. If Honi was seen in such favor with God then why don't we hear anything else about him in God's word? Why wasn't he one of the disciples of God? 5. This whole thing is a GIMMICK. If you are a true Pastor, you should be leading your sheep toward God, his son - Jesus, the Holy Spirit and their divine word - the BIBLE. Not some silly ancient Egyptian tale that you found interesting and have ever- since misinterpreted. 6. By the way, that promise God made to Joshua, was just to Joshua not all of his people then or now. Or do you also believe that a 100+ woman will bare children if she draws a circle around her belly and commands that God send her a baby? No, God had a vision and purpose for Abraham and Sarah and that is why they were blessed with children beyond their child baring years... that doesn't mean that everyone can just demand that from God - if its not in God's will then he will just not fullfil it. Life if not about US, it is entirely about HIM and if you don't know that or preach that to your flock, then you are surely a false teacher and I pray God takes mercy on your soul when the time comes. Don't take the Bible out of context and stop spreading false teachings, Thanks!

Katie E This theory goes against everything that God proclaims and everything that Jesus stands for. Its a selfish, self centered, materialistic, approach to seeking "blessings" from God. Fist of all, we reap blessings from your actions and sowing good godly fruits, not just for asking our heavenly father like a child does his mother when he wants a candy bar in the grocery store. We don't get everything that we want because not everything that we want is in our best interest and in the plan God has for us. Instead of waiting for what God (All knowing) has in store for you, you reject it and ask for more. That is called DISOBEDIENCE. How is this biblical? BTW, God isn't the only one you "blesses" The devil can also answer request and provide with a lot of what humans desire. Maybe Mark didn't really give his life up to Jesus. Maybe he gave his soul to the devil and that is where all of his "blessings" are coming from. After all, the devil will always support anyone and anything that leads Jesus's flock astray... and this is one of those things. I pray God has mercy on Mark Batterson. He may be flying high now with all of these so called "blessings" but the punishment God gives for misleading faith seekers and believers is eternal damnation

Marla Cristina - God doesn’t need us to draw circles. But, we need to do certain thing to grow. God waits for us to grow so that we can handle a blessing or a challenge. This was written to a people who no longer know how to pray and thus miss out on the relationship with God that comes out of prayer. It is a starting point.

Marla, this is an old post, but I wanted to thank you for calling out this false preacher. These two things struck me as negative: When he spoke about *'Circles'* - they are used in witchcraft and occult satanic practices and rituals. Also, he said he was reading the *TALMUD,* and liked it! The Talmud is a blasphemous, hideous, filthy, attack on Jesus Christ - I won't even go into what it says because it is such garbage. But also the Talmud is filled with hatred for ALL Christians and vulgar speech, racism, and death wishes towards us. The Jews hate christians though they try to cover it up by not making the Talmud available to non-jews. One thing the jews like is the Christians' money. They try to get it at every turn through lies and schemes about how "the jews are suffering and desperately need the christians to help them by sending money." Ha! They are putting these sob stories on christian radio. When I called to talk to them about the program, I was hung up on. So, when this "preacher" said he was reading the racist *Talmud* and it's hatred for Jesus Christ and His followers, and he was so happy and blessed by it, I wanted to vomit. He's is a false teacher and he also is in it for the $money$ wanting us to buy his books, etc.

How dare one discredit the one that breath life into you everyday. It's funny that you discredit the one that gave you life in the first place. The text of Joshua implies that God's promise to Joshua was specifically to the Jewish people, and specifically for the promised land. I wonder if there's a verse that says God's promises to the Jews RE Israel can be applied to Christians regarding anything they want. I hope I can find such a verse! Also, I wonder what Mark thinks about how Jesus taught us to pray in Matthew 6:5-6: "And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you." Finally, on the Talmud. I don't know much about it. Can we be sure it's as accurate and as trustworthy as the Bible? I'm not sure it's relevant, but in Titus 1:14, it says to "pay no attention to Jewish myths."

Okay, it is obvious that a lot of the critics here have not really read this book. The circle is a basically a metaphor. This is a inspiration message on the importance of prayer, not circles. If you did more than a cursory reading you should understand that. It does not matter if you call it circling, bathing it in prayer, or just getting a prayer life. Good work Pastor Mark, it really inspired me to deepen my pursuit God's will in prayer. Honestly some people would do much better to pray more and find less to criticize. Blessings, Pastor Glenn

Yahweh Tzedikanu, the Lord our Righteousness. Our God associates righteousness to blessing. A tzedik is a human who gives alms to the poor and needy. But a tzedik knows that the only way he may be a blessing is when Yahweh Tzedikanu blesses 'him' in order to be a blessing. Numbers 23:19 "God is not like man that he should lie, nor the son of a man that he should change his mind. What he says, he will do. He has commanded me to bless, he has blessed. It's not a methodology; it's theology. It honestly doesn't matter whether it's a circle, an oval or a trapezoid. Drawing prayer circles is NOTHING MORE THAN LAYING OUR REQUESTS BEFORE GOD AND WAITING EXPECTANTLY." (emphasis added)

I can't imagine Apostles Peter or Paul telling any of the churches they established to "draw prayer circles," triangles, squares, or quadrilaterals. This is a gimmick. God is not waiting to just answer our prayers so that our dreams can come true. He empowered us to be witnesses of the risen Christ to those He is saving--by unveiling the pages of scripture to those who haven't heard. Study scripture, don't draw prayer circles for your dreams.

It is not about right and almost right. You have no evidence that there is any unbiblical practice taught whatsoever. Unless, like I mentioned, you think he is admonishing people to craft magic circles.

So, having seen the first video of the Circle Maker and having also read the 1st half of Draw The Circle, I really can’t believe the negative garbage that you people are spewing. What is the problem in creating excitement and positive habit making where God, Jesus specifically, is at the forefront of everything this man is trying to help those of us who are challenged in prayer with????? Are you holier than thou? Have you been given the right to criticize practices that have brought favor to the down trodden? No, you haven’t, for that matter nor have I and so I say give the man a break and give the plan a try before you offer your comments. If you can honestly say that you’ve followed the suggestions in this video (21 day prayer challenge) and are not closer to our Heavenly Father and haven’t gained true perspective on what is and isn’t important, both scripturally and spiritually, then I would absolutely welcome your posts... but if you can’t do that, then let Jesus be the one who calls this mans work into question

It's like saying forget whatever the means is if the end is God that is enough. Very dangerous stand. We cannot exaggerate God and make him likeable. We cannot glorify him more than who he really is.

If you looked up things like “casting circles” and saw the occult comparison and you accounted that God does not wish for us to take occultic means to do things, especially when we are supposed to humble ourselves and surrender things to God, both of our struggles and desires, which one can make known in prayer, by asking and being upfront, instead of demanding / commanding or accounting things will only go “our” way...then maybe you’d get how bad this teaching is. As such if you think it’s okay for christians to partake in witchcraft and don’t bother to understand the concerning connections and details in this teaching, then I don’t expect you to understand.

Not to mention the RABBINIC source for his prayer principles, JESUS. Review the definition of metaphor and why not read the book before writing a review??

If you don't appreciate people sharing testimonies about how God responded mightily to prayer (Honi)...don't read the book. Have you ever heard a pastor teach about prayer or do you only read the red lines in scripture about prayer? Batterson emphasizes the application of prayer principles (which are in direct alignment to Jesus' teaching), not drawing actual circles. Step out of your left brain and embrace metaphor.

Hey people if you really go looking into circle making you would find this teaching is connected to the occult. Not joking. Pls don’t just think it’s ok cause it’s labelled Christian or using Christian like terms. Seriously I came here seeing what this showed cause when I first saw this years and years ago on RightNowmedia episode 2 or 3 made mention of someone demonstrating drawing a circle in chalk on the floor. However I never saw that section and was curious if it showed here... please note that for drawing chalk circles There are some things in witchcraft which do that. Also for a more sound reasoning, if Honi existed in the 1st century BC timeline then why didn’t Jesus ever make reference to Honi? It just seems like he would be close enough to the timeline for the people of Jesus’ day to know who he was talking about if Honi was that significant. Or maybe Jesus would’ve mentioned making circles when his disciples asked how to pray. Think people!

People seem to constantly be looking for the next gimmick and this was one of them. Honi was nearly excommunicated for his circle drawing, so not even most Jew recognise him, let alone this being Christian. Instead of this guy boasting about reading 1000's of books he should try reading the Bible more.

The disciples of Jesus asked to be taught how to pray, Jesus then gave them a model that can be expanded vastly in many directions. Small prayers are not offensive to God (give us today our daily bread) just as large prayers ( your will be done on earth as it is in heaven). Ignoring Jesus, Paul, and Peter methods for Honi is totally silly and a distraction.

by the blood of Jesus.. the blood of God.....We go right into the holies of holies.... right before God the father almighty.... boldly. .. We don't need fetishes, circles, and other pagan poor rejected substitutes...to get God's ear! These and similar techniques are an insult to The Only Way that has been given to mankind. as apostle Paul said... God winked at this superstition in the past, but in these last days...... The Blood of the word of God manifested in flesh is the only way.... get used to it... otherwise you are being deceived by devils... and rejecting reality .. and communing with demons that hate your guts because you are created in the image of God .. those demons want you seduced and twisted. Repent and Run from this!

The book is focused on prayer to God and focusing on what you are praying as you come boldly to the throne of God. What I do realize is that anything that God has, the enemy will copy cat it. God says "circles", witchcraft has "circles" God has anointing oils, witchcraft has potions. God has Christ, witchcraft has the anti-christ.... We have to discern the truth... If you have not read the "Book of the Legends" you don't have a clue who Honi is nor a true reference point. You should never put your mouth on something you do not understand. That is why the church is so messed up now; too many opinions from unlearned people with no discernment and not enough spiritual truth because no wants to ascend up and stay at the feet of God seeking His face. Too much division.... A lot of attacks in comments with no revelation from God. For if there was any TRUE revelation from God there would be wisdom... Wisdom says: "When He prepared the heavens, I was there, when He drew a circle on the face of the deep..." (Proverbs 8:27 NKJV) GOD SITS UPON THE CIRCLE OF THE EARTH.... SELAH

The Good News is what is to be taught and emphasized not Jewish myths and legends.I'm not saying you don't preach the gospel (i don't know) but just skip the circle making subject it is not in the Bible and the Bible is what you're accountable for preaching. It is a very shallow and non informative teaching tool. God's word is soooo vast soooo amazing and can impart life and faith to pray to our Father in heaven, no amount of circles or repetition can increase his love toward us and make him act

Apparently, he's following the witches circle, draws it 3 times just like the witches, who direct its drawing in one video. The witches instruction includes making drawing it 3 times. It's no where in the bible. Apparently he plagiarizes the Bible; he recites Habakkuk Chapter 2 and records that Habakkuk drew a circle on page 159 of The Circle Maker.

Began making circles when i was 12 years old, never stopped. It does not matter where you draw them it maters that the circle is round and not like this fool is doing drawing over a line. A real amateur mistake but it can happen to beginners. The advice i can give you is don't begin with a circle that is 4 meters in diameter begin small making a circle to big can really put you in a bad spot and you might be worshiping the devil instead of god.

Drawing circles sounds pagan. Struggling to find any Biblical basis for it. From listening to the start of the video he just walked and played. He also makes it sound like he's attributing church growth there to drawing circles.
