Very rarely did a movie hit me so deep in the brain and feels at the same time. Masterful work to all; Spike & Hoyte, and to you and your excellent breakdowns. I actually feel like im consuming value.
As a cinematography student, I can't tell you how valuable your videos are. While your breakdown of this film was very impressive, I would love to learn more about the technical approaches taken to achieving these looks. If you breakdown more films in this manner and add some more technical knowledge, I know that the execution for my work would become far stronger. Thank you for sharing what you know. This is such a fucking awesome way for me to learn.
Wow, your insight into inter-personal relationships is way more than your usual tech visions of lighting, etc. I'm very impressed.
Life as an Asian dude. "I think I'm getting older." (looks 15)
Thanks for the upload. Hadn't seen this one. Liked the movie. Still can't get over modern Shanghai as future LA.
I'm learning so much from these Cinematography videos. They are so informative and no bs, I think you have a great talent at breaking down films; and not just from a Cinematography point of view. Also, your authentic personality makes your videos very easy to listen too. I'm certainly a 'Database Fan'. Keep up the epic content!
Spike Jonze has made the last two big skateboard films for Crailtap, and Rick Howard is the owner (at least one of them) so the "Untitled Rick Howard Project" part that you ask about at 3:30 is probably a shout out to him. If you have the time watch the introduction to "Fully Flared". It is directed by Spike Jonze and all real, which is, simply put, phenomenal!
Thank you so much for re-uploading this epic content :D I love you

No prob! Love ya too! :D
Thank you so much for posting your breakdowns! I also appreciate your emotional connection and expression of it... aren't cinematographers artists?? Just as important, if not the most important, as what they used and how they did it, but why they did. I find your videos as honest and very informative and interesting even for anyone who watch movies (I had my 13 yr old daughter watch an episode with me and she dug it). You inspire and enrich the medium with your sharing and I wish you all the best on your business endeavors in return.
I love the dooddles more than everything at all :D. Nice work.
Please keep doing these. I love that you’re mixing the technical and the high level stuff.
Great breakdown man. Really love this movie, seen it several times and now want to watch it again now that you've highlighted several areas to look out for. for me it's the mood, unusual setting, subtle and slow form of filmmaking that pulls you in. plus it mirrors our own world of Siri, Google Home and Alexa and how we cope with AI. Wonderful.
I stumbled across your channel whilst I've been looking at a lot of cinematography videos, as I'm looking to pick up ideas and skills of my own to create some short films. I wanted to say keep it up with the videos, I've really enjoyed watching them! Great work!
I think the pin in his pocket is that the phone wont sink in too deep and therefore block the camera view :) You can see in some of the shots that the phone is in his pocket and the camera just above the pocket.
Such a fantastic film! The theme of isolation in a big city surrounded by other people like Lost in Translation is such a crazy phenomenon yet the most real topic that there is with people living in the city. So relatable.
Awesome, love when you point out about the narrative blocking elements, composition etc. KEEP WALKING
just found out your yt channel and enjoying it immensely, thanks a lot!
This is fantastic, so insightful, I so appreciate you sharing your wisdom. If it isn't perfect as an upload from your POV, it doesn't matter, that just makes it more authentic
MEGA MEGA MEGA THANKS FOR ALL THE REUPLOADS. ONE LOVE
Thank you for re-uploading!
now you HAVE TO watch lost in translation and compare it with it
Hey dude, this was really great, thank you so much for sharing this with us! Nothing to feel weird about, expressing your emotion is completely normal. I think it really adds something to your work. I'm not a cinematographer, nor a film student. I watched some of Roger Deakins work and became interested in learning more about the art and that's what led me here. This is one of my all time favourite movies, and really hit me emotionally as well.. such a beautiful movie. Spike Jonze and Hoyte really knocked it out of the park. I'm subscribing and can't wait to watch more of your content. Hopefully you will do a review of Blade Runner 2049 would love to see you run through the frames. Don't shy away from the emotion, the technical stuff is great but I also appreciate this a lot too! Greetings from Dublin, Ireland :)
These rock, you are the man!
You just hit my brain.
Great video as always.
stop apologizing man...you are doing great!!! keep at making this kind of videos..
You, my friend, just saved some awesome stuff. Thank you very very very much. Will you upload more of his videos? Unfortunately i didn't downloaded all of them at the time.

Hey. I don't want to bother you, but you said you didn't download all of the videos. Did you download some? maybe some that aren't available on this channel. If so, could you please contact me and give me access to those videos, as I will make sure that they are put up on youtube (maybe with the help of this channel) so people could enjoy more of these videos. Thank you.

Oh, sad they're blocking some amazing content. I'm learning so much with his videos. PS: I took a quick look and great website btw.
command + tab = skating on ice ever so gracefully lol
Get me a job as a cinematographer I’ve watched all your vids !
Which trackpad do u Use?
Thanks. How many more do you have to upload?
What app does he use to annotate the stills? I’d love to know.
do one of these for the movie LOVE by Noe Gaspar
hello could you do an anaylysis like this for a film called 'In The Mood For Love' by Wong Kar-wai. released in 2000 i just found your channel and i've learnt so much thank you

yea, cinefix considered in the mood for love the best use of color in a movie
for me the use of shallow depth of field is all about the insular nature of the film.....i.e how its all the main character and his inside world
Man, Bladerunner 2049 seems to draw on this movie a lot! The whole OS thing, the surrogate sex idea, being some of the common ideas.
did you watch once upon a time in america? with robert de niro?
HOW CAN I SUPPORT YOU !!!!
6:45 Maybe its pink because they write love letters? :P
15:00
36:55 his S.O.? OS?^^
Btw Dunkirk is the best film I've seen this year :)
Hey Matthew, fellow filmmaker and composer here, who also scripts lighting tools in 3D (in my case, LightWave). You have an awesome toolset that I will buy for sure! Thank you for your valuable insights across the board. Now I feel a debt is owed in sharing mine: this whole A.I. Singularity thing by conflicted producers is an epic hoax, which needs to be exposed. As a trained scientist, I know beyond any doubt that there are fundamental physical and mathematical reasons why no computer will ever reach self-awareness or "intelligence" or "consciousness", and the world should be alarmed enough to take corrective action if they value their continued existence. That in itself is part of an epic story I am writing. For a teaser, check out my article here: www.quora.com/Is-the-Singularity-a-religion-for-smart-people/answer/Arthur-Sulit

Yes, the concept of a technological singularity is vastly oversold and the plausibility of it happening in the recent future greatly exaggerated. But seeing that we are machines assembled by evolution that reached intelligence and consciousness, there is no fundamental reason why man-made automata should never be capable of reaching that state. They wouldn't resemble a desktop computer though, I presume
Hey guys, I'm pretty sure the safety pin is not actually to keep the camera up, and is more of a costuming choice. Often people will wear a safety pin to represent "safety" and to show to the outside world that they are someone they can talk to, and will not receive hatred, bigotry, or judgement from them. Not sure what it says about the character however... Source: I go to Emerson college, one of the most liberal colleges in the country

It's definitely there to support the camera and not let it dip into his shirt pocket. Also, no one gives two fucks what college you go to. Does not make your point any more legitimate so I have no idea why you put that down as a "source". Comes across as very pretentious
PLS ADD SUB IN SPANISH THANK YOU
