Starting at 0:44 it's amazing that this Live version is exactly the same length as the studio version. THAT'S how freakin perfect this band is. Just one reason. :)

There's samba in the guitar rhythm. If I covered this it would be like girl from Ipanema, Brazilian style. Astrid Gilberto voice, acoustic guitar, a soft airy freestyle flute solo. I'd love to hear a Burt Bacharach or Miles Davis version.

Love the new sounds. Freshens it up. No bagpipe thank God. I've always felt the "all the lonely people" fragment(Eleanor Rigby) is on display, like if the song was a painting, "all the lonely people" would be the subject and the rest of the song would be the frame. Why is this song a hit? I think it has to do with the cycling tension and release of the bass notes. F# provides tension until it resolves to F, then there's tension again on E, the fifth chord which brings us back to A, release. Like breathing. It also creates a kind of suspense that draws the listener in. Stevekilbey2 what do you think?
