As a 57-year-old fan from the States, my endless gratitude to the Brits and Aussies and Kiwis. Where would modern rock and roll be without your great good taste?

Fantastic clip, they were such a stunningly brilliant band at that time. What an incredible performance if it wasn't for the ad-libs they could be playing the record. I saw them in Sheffield UK around this time, a half empty room but never to be forgotten one of the best gigs ever!

I saw them live in 1982, it's almost a shaman type performance. One of the best gigs I ever saw.

when my dad was playing with the Church they received 5 gold records, when he left they never got one again, and how come the records he is on are STILL the highest selling? well because they are the best! Heyday and Starfish were just masterpieces!

GREAT SONG GREAT PERFORMANCE must be early eighties. I saw them live in malmoe 2007. Not much people at the show - i think they are still a very good band.

Brilliant, raw and live...how did Marty see with the sheepdog hair-do?

The Church don't have a big following here. They had a decent following in the early to mid eighties, but nowadays we're more of a cult following and lately The Church have only made it to Malmö or Gothenburg while touring. I missed the acoustic gig in Gothenburg a few years back, but made it to the concerts in Malmö and Copenhagen in 2007. I hope they will make it to Europe again this year...

@martenlandstrom Hi Marten. I have a question. How well known are the Church in Sweden in 2010 if at all? Cheers from California :-)

A nice show, that one, even if the show in Copenhagen the day after was probably better.

well alot of what you said is Opinion, but he is my Dad ofcourse I feel biased, Oh and he is on half of gold afternoon fix, the rest is sadly a drum machine, aslo Jay Dee was 10 years older than my dad so ofcourse he would of had more experience and I dont know how old Tim Powles is but Im sure he is older than my dad.

Yeah man I agree after my dad left(Richard Ploog) It all sucked!!!
@martenlandstrom14 жыл бұрын
@GEETARS3 : Well, he was absent during the recording of Gold Afternoon Fix. And Priest=Aura has the best drumming in Church history, as far as I am concerned. Like I said, Ploog was often totally lost in a live situation. He couldn't keep the tempo, but rushed. He wasn't on their debut, and anyway a drummer doesn't make a band. Wonder why they never released a live album in their heyday? ;-) As a live band, they've been better in the last 10 to 15 years than ever.

@GEETARS3 Hey, I think your Dad did some awesome drumming with them! I do like their later stuff, but it's different. I'd say he's got good improvising skills, timings difficult live because it's hard for the band hear sometimes. I think it's natural to quicken it live, go with the flow. You play guitar? Jam on!

The best drummers they ever had were Jay-Dee Daugherty and Tim Powles for sure. Richard Ploog just wasn't up to it in a live situation... Tim Powles is a also an excellent producer and an extremely nice guy!

I was lucky enough to see the ORIGINAL band twice and I saw them after your dad left and I thought the 3rd show was lame. I tried to like the later stuff after Gold Afternoon Fix but the lyrics were goofy/pretentious. so take that for whats it worth
