This brings me to tears. The Church summer of 1982, lowly paid struggling in life, music was my salvation. Of Skins & Heart ❤

One of the best things about the Church was that they stood above much of the chaos of the music scene of the 80s and got international recognition with strong songs and brilliant musicianship.

Bought this album in 1981 instead of a record store clerk's suggestion of A Flock of Seagulls. Made the right choice, huh?!

Tear it all away tricks me every time with its false start and climbing bass line that eventually leads to the main key, as if there's some kind of secret music preceding the song. Perhaps it's somewhere hiding in the sky??-as how the video starts. The intermingling guitars and unexpected release which peaks on the briefly lingering high D(Peter). The anguish in Steve's voice is cradled so sensitively by the accompaniment. Surpasses pop perfection.

never knew this song existed. it is great. wish i had seen them in concert back in 1988 with Echo & the Bunnymen, but it never happened. I went to see Echo, but instead of the Church opening up, we got the Leather Nun. They were booed off the set...

I think this is my favorite song ever. Found this album at a garage sale (well an ex of mine actually found it), it always makes my day. How were these guys not a bigger band? Oh and on the vinyl this track is listed as "Fighter Pilot...Korean War". That might be why some here think it wasn't on the LP. Anyone know why it was changed?

I can't answer your question specifically, but here in Australia when this song was released as a single (1981), it was never included on either of the first two albums. The Church keeping it interesting I guess.
