The Chromium Dioxide Special: Wild & Unknown 1980s Heavy Metal Singles. LET'S TALK METAL

Ойын-сауық

One of these singles is so obscure I couldn't find any info or pictures of it online LOL
These were discussed on HEAVY METALLURGY when Phil from CHROMIUM DIOXIDE appeared on the 'Humor in Metal' Episode (link below). Thought I'd give folks a chance to hear what these sounded like :)
Unsurprisingly, the sound clips from these generated no copyright issues haha

Nice selection, Alan! The Blue Raven single obviously stands out because of its way more accessible style and reminds me of Triumph when Gil Moore sang.

Thanks Mike! I' not very familiar with Triumph but I'll take your word for it.

The first two clips were quite enjoyable like you said just enough of an edge on the guitars to make it sound rocking but I had to chuckle at throbbing wolfpak that did bring a smile to my face! thanks for sharing Alan!

Wow! You brought the weird on this one. I never would have associated NWOBHM-style obscure Metal with humor and comedy. All of these bands had decent riffing but that last band was really silly. Couldn't understand what I was listening to. I guess parody metal goes back way further than I thought. Thanks for the education, Alan. 😂

Glad you enjoyed some of this stuff LOL Yeah, Throbbing Wolfpack is less avant-garde and more avant-goofy. Based on that YT interviewI mentioned the band definitely seemed to just be trying to do their own Spinal Tap-like routine.

Haha, I "discovered" Throbbing Wolfpak years ago, and got several copies of their 45 from a band member (who was a very nice and completely normal guy). Yes, they were obviously just trying to goof off. I think maybe you got your copy from me originally? Can't really remember. 🙂 Funny thing about Destiny - always pick up their releases if you find them in the wild. Some of them are worth a lot of money (mostly the punk and soul ones). Nice to see you have the Organized Confusion 45, now that's a KILLER 45!

I probably got TW from either you or John but I don't recall. It's a goofy one for sure. Organized Confusion is a good one! It'll get featured in a video another day. Didn't know that about the Mystic singles, thanks for pointing it out! I'm heading to a record show in a couple of weeks and there's usually one guy there with punk and metal singles, so I'll keep an eye out for anything else on the label.

BLUE NEVAR make's perfect sesne to me. Pretty decent song despite their logo challenges. I enjoyed the Al Smith Group as well. Maybe they were going for a Michael Schenker Group connection? Throbbing Wolfpack was campy cool stupid fun.

Hmmm, they could have been going for the MSG angle, I hadn't thought of that. I tend to forget how early MSG got going. LOL at BLUE NEVAR... may have to get Marty to make some custom shirts of that one!

I dig blue raven but I wasn’t into the other bands I like hearing about all these early bands I’ve been listening to Nwobhm since my early 20s and I’m in my late 30s now and still as obsessed with classic metal as ever

Blue Raven is definitely the best of these three. ASG is alright and Throbbing Wolfpack, well, what can I say? LOL

Al Smith sounds like he liked Rush, but the end results are cool! (As ice)
