Hey ISP just wanted to let you know that if you go with the five equal peoples focus, you get those 7 sucky divisions, but you also unlock the raise the banner decision, which is free and gives you 5 divisions that are about the same strength as the ones on the "staff the court with manchus" side.

It was a while ago I did this achievement but isn't staff the court with Manchus usually considered better because underground workshops gives something like 6 military factories and -25% infantry equipment cost? It does make infantry equipment worse but you can make so much more of it it's insane.

Fun fact: Puyi was captured by the Soviets as war criminal and later personally pardoned by Mao and became a gardener.

for those who don't know, the achievement where you strike oil as Manchukuo is from the name of a "Korean Manchu Spaghetti Western" movie where the dad (not the rich one) from Parasite and the Asian guy from Magnificent Seven remake have a shootout with the North Korean general from Steel Rain over a bag of jewels. The shootout happens to take place right above a secret oil well, which was a McGuffin for the entire movie. Why max infrastructure? That bag of jewels was a loot from a train robbery on the South Manchurian Rail.

Forgot to mention who was who: I list three actors on the reverse order of the movie title, just by chance. The Parasite guy is "the weird" one.

Fun fact: if you completed the final focus and see xuantong, he is not the real puyi per say. Basically the game codes that puyi is killed and replaced by xuantong which has no traits instead of renaming him, leads to a lot of questions...bruh Edit: k bruh thx for the info, i never looked too much into the codes

I did this on non historical AI because it Japan goes communist you get all Japan's holdings outside the home islands, Mengkukuo as a puppet, some free units and generals, and a navy I think. Makes conquering China easier and weakens Japan for later but they will declare war on you by a focus which isn't much of an issue as they're really weak.

That's the strategy I use, although as commie Japan has no other territory outside the home islands and if you wait till they declare war you have the amazing opportunity to invade a Japan with 100+ divisions guarding it 🤣 easy enough with air and cas support but my god its scary making a beach head that instantly gets attacked by 30 Jap divisions 😬

14:48 The two options thing is usually because either the requirements for enabling them are broken or because you manage to somehow fulfill both of them. These events have multiple options that basically say "Show this if you're X Tag/if you're this ideology/if you have this spirit etc. etc." and a last one that appears if you don't fulfill any of the other ones. This is so if a nuke is dropped on a country for example the text will read something positive for the allies of the bomber and something negative for the allies of the bombed. Sometimes the requirements for these are very lazily written however and they either break as the game is updated or their requirements aren't contradictory so you have the opportunity to get multiple.

I wonder if there's a speed run record for 100% achievements for this game. Probably not, but it amuses me thinking how insane it would drive people.

That news event with the two options had the two options because Manchukuo is both the instigator of the event and doesn't have the flag "is_literally_china" (that second option doesn't have a condition check for if you're the instigator of the event or not, it just checks for the flag). Usually these errors happen because Paradox wasn't thorough enough with the trigger condition checks. Also, considering the people who seized power in China after the war, Puyi's fate could've been a lot worse than what it became, lmao

Microing, Country to Country Diplomacy and pretty borders (Alternate History or not) are why I play the game. My most favourite is Democratic Germany, making Europe democratic and independent and taking back the Prussian East (Posen, Katowice, Danzig, West-Prussia/ the Polish Corridor)

Unironically I did the good the bad and the weird bc I wanted to try to recreate the Qing dynasty bc I thought there was an achievement for it. This was before I knew how to look at the achievements

If you didn't know, you can just open the save folder (Documents\Paradox Interactive\Hearts of Iron IV\save games) and copy the save file. So you CAN make checkpoint saves on Ironman.

I tried this achievement recently, just got bogged down in the Center of Japan, no matter how many units I encircled and killed they just kept bringing more, also no supply Bcuz the ships kept getting sunk

14:46 probably not even intentional, one option is most likely for everyone who isnt you and the other is specific to qing china. They just forgot to remove the generic one so now it falls off the news paper

You HAD TO OWN the treaty ports to do the Mandate of Heavenfocus back when Waking the Tiger first came out but they changed that later. I remember because I needed them to do the focus the only time I played Manchukuo which was at the dlc release

Fun fact puyu wasn't the emperor of china but the emperor of japan before he got kick out and send to monchou and be proclamed emperor of manchouria so that all the major nation at the time dont annex those territory and for japan to have land on the continent and opium farm

Didn't know there was an achievement called The Good, The Bad, and The Weird which is a reference to a great movie of the same name, which itself takes a lot from the legendary The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly and the Dollars Trilogy as a whole. I guess Puyi spent his final days living in red China and would give tours of the forbidden palace. That would interesting going to a Communist nation and getting a tour of the Imperial palace shown to you by the final emporer. Can't imagine too many can say they did that. Although I imagine there's a few left somewhere in China.
