Facts.

I love both Indian & Chinese food. Home cooked. I like Creole food as well. I'm a native of Trinidad & Tobago. The food is always good in Trinidad & Tobago.

I think it’s good because of the wide mix of people each bringing their own cuisine

The history of the Caribbean is fascinating and the mix of the races and cultures.

My Trini grandmother’s mother was half Chinese but this barely gets a mention in my family. She just likes to say she was Italian, but the more I learn about her (she died 5 years ago aged 93), her heritage was no where near that simple. I’d love to know more.

my father family where colonialist minded. my father passed on at 96. have the knowledge of his journey, the married a copper skin descendant. still kicking at 98, don't know much of mom's journey before her generation. we live in the USSH 🇺🇲 now it over 50years. but even change I get am in Trinbago, I'm proud to be Trinbagoian. love 💘 everything in Trinidad and Tobago

Yes Trinidad is a fantastic place with an expansive genealogical history. For example the indigenous people's were the Amerindians and they have Chinese /Mongolian ancestry. You can see their resemblance to east Asians because they have a common ancestor. I am a Trinidadian Indian person but my ancestors are Tibetan and Burmese as well as Amerindians and Punjabi along with Portuguese and Spanish blood! My great grandmother was from Tibet and migrated to Nepal and her Chinese features run strong in our family. She married a punjab man who came to Trinidad as an indentured labourer. I am by no means unique! Amazing! We are one people whether African Indian Chinese European -we are all brothers & sisters- Peace & much love from the UK💛💙💚💜💖💕

SancocheTV I apologise for the rather officious tone. You are excellent at what you do. I can't understand why the clips are so short. I'd love them to be longer. I live in London but have French creole relatives scattered in a few islands, including Trinidad. Your format, and, dare I say it, your infectious optimism heightened by the tropical colors and spicy foods, brings a touch of Caribbean warmth to a wintry London.

I wish this video explored the Chinese influence in Trinidad nore in depth. Like what's the Chinese population now. Chinese intermarraige with native Trinidadians, were Chinese discriminated against etc.

No discrimination, at least, nothing outside of a couple calypsos about chinese names. Of the 3000 or so chinese that came, only 300 were women, the rrst of them took local wives who themselves were already agenetic mix of peoples. Look through the comments and you will see numerous trinis with all kinds of last names telling you about their own chinese heritage. The Chinese acontributed to our genetic pool, our culture, our cuisine, and China is considered by most as another "parent" culture to trinidad.

Wow! Quite interesting.. Very different to the story of Jamaica.. The Chinese haven't stopped coming there.. I think we have more Chinese in some parishes than Indians! And then there is the influx of Japanese.. Such diversity in the Caribbean, the UK will never match the Caribbean.. Love being Caribbean!

The story is also different for the Chinese arriving in British Guiana, which was on the same boat that delivered the Chinese to Trinidad. There was no $4 per month wage. It was $4 for the entire contract, and there was no free transportation. Room and Board, clothing and transportation were deducted from the $4 at the end of the so-called labor contract. Either the peasant walked away with pennies, or was in the negative. The landowner did not want to turn over his precious pennies to the former "slave servant", he offered land purchase opportunities. For many, it was riverfront property in the jungle. British Guiana was part of the Amazon forest. It was no paradise down the river. If the peasant wanted to return to China, he had to pay his way back to the homeland. No one had the money for the boat fare. The man should consult with Trevor Sue-A-Quan, a Guyanese Chinese Canadian, who researched the arrival of the Chinese in British Guiana extensively.

Isn’t that the truth.

The Chinese seem to have a significant presence throughout a lot the Caribbean. Many went to Jamaica and Cuba but some also went to Trinidad, Guyana, Suriname, DR, etc. Along with Indians, the Chinese are amazing world travelers.

Trinidad had a large Chinese community long before any other Caribbean Island. My family are mixed Chinese, French, African, Indian and European.

They did not just become present. What this video failed to say was that only 300 pr so women came with the over 2800 chinese men. Meaning, the vast majority of chinese labourers took wives from the local population, and so, today there is significant chinese admixture inthe Trinidadian dna profile particularly in mixed and "afro" identifying groups. In that way, china represents a parent culture, along with western africa, india, portugal, venzuela, and trinidad itself (native). You may think that 3000 people isnt a lot, but it is a lot when you consider that throughout most ofnthe colonial era, trinidad was the most underpopulated island innthe caribbean and had barely surpassed 15k or so people at the time of emancipation and the start of indenturship.

I never met 🇨🇳 from 🇹🇹 in my life. I met a lot of 🇹🇹🇹🇹 people who are African & 🇮🇳 descent 100%

My great grandfather was Albert Moyou I was told he was the founding member of the Chinese association of Trinidad 🇹🇹 can anyone tell me how I can find more info about him

My dad arrived in 1930, got a British passport in this country. Don't know anything about his life in Trinidad

The Chinese people are kind, peaceful and helpful. If you get to know them they will try to help you if you asked them to.

The Japanese were reluctant to sell its people around the workd during these older times because they said they didnt want to brand their society and people as laborers who represented the bottom of society so they never did. China on the other hand had no problem selling their people off for a few pieces of coins.!

The Japanese was a CLOSED COUNTRY around that time. And china sold no one, at that time it was being invaded by the british and its last dynasties destroyed, setting up the atmosphere for the pacific war where japan began invading and basically enslaving much of asia since china could no longer protect its tributary states. The people who came on those ships to the caribbean were doing so of their own chouce, but they were ultimately lied to and forced to work under a system not far off from slavery. But they integrated into the population and because part of us.

Chinese are remarkably resilient anywhere in the world. Their hallmark of hard work, perseverance and patience. That explains why there are Chinatowns all over the world. It is worth a mention here about the Jews. They were small in numbers but got their small strong community built by not by sweats and blood but through easy money drinking poor people blood through money lending. Immoral.
