As a child of Oyá, I've noticed some key characteristics in myself and other children of Oyá (My oyurbón is also a child of Oyá). I'm able to check myself when I identify certain characteristics in other children of Oyá, because others regard us as offensive. Here it goes. 1. Our delivery and how we speak can be way too direct and abrasive, often unintentionally. 2. We can be extremely jealous when it comes to the people we care about, which comes from a place of protection, but it can be over the top. 3. We are often too controlling and bossy. 4. Our analytic mind comes from thinking about everything in terms of war, specifically how to win the war and get what we want. The war isn't won by brute physical force, but with intelligence. 5. We are extremely sensual. 6. We get bored easily and don't like monotony. 7. It's hard for us to sit still. We always have to be up and moving. 8. We are often clasterphobic and don't like to be in a room where we can't see out. 9. It's hard to penetrate our hearts, but once inside, we truly care about the person and will defend them no matter what.

I have sooo many characteristics of Mama Oya. I haven’t been initiated because it’s so pricey. Pero since young I have been so in tune with Oya and her energy, different events in my life and how it’s shaped me, the things I’ve realized about myself, all are attributed to Oya. It’s hard to believe that someone has to tell me which Orisha chose me when I already feel chosen by Oya.

How am I now finding this?! Thank you, thank you, thank you so much for this. When I first went to find out who my crowning Orishas were, an Osun priestess told me Osun because of how I look. I sat there surrounded by these other Osun children, admiring their inner beauty and softness, the way they fill you with joy by just being around them and so much more, but none of it resonated with me. Every time I hear people talk about Oya they mention only unpleasant things and aggression. They speak of Oya children being big and physically strong and I am small and light weight so I ignored my feelings of displacement with the Osun children and focused on Osun (she protects me and I still love her, I wear her beads that were given to me still). Eventually I went to a different Baba and we called my Odu, with it he asked who was in the house and Orunmila spoke first, he tossed again to find out who else was there and again, because of my looks he called Osun first. We went through, calling all of the Orisha he could think of. Eventually he looked at me and said before tossing again, "Not Oya..." then he contemplated and tossed. Before he read the answer the wind picked up, the galvanize on the roof lifted and banged, the trees started bending and copious amounts of dust kicked up. Baba laughed and said, "It is her. The same woman parading herself for us now. What an odd combination." I almost cried. But still, all he spoke of was her fierceness and told me to watch my mouth and my temper (which I already do my best at controlling). But today sir, everything that you've said resonated so strongly I almost felt attacked lol My father (Orunmilla) has taught me that information will come to me in the right time and to be patient. I was going about my day today and looking for something to listen to while I take care of my house work and came across this, expecting to hear nothing but Oya being angry and powerful. But you spoke about the mental prowess of her children, the tenacity, the contemplation and self sufficiency that I already pride myself on. Thank you and may Olodumare continue to bless you. I'm heading over to your page to find the video on feeding the wind now. I've neglected mama for years. I'm 26 now, I think this is a good place to start honouring her.

Omg, Oya came to me last night with a whole army and I have 3 children but me and only one son was there and we felt like we just joined her army and everyone was making sure me and my son had everything and we were comfortable and we had a place to lay our heads. I felt very secure and my son actually was getting advice from men in the army. Like they won’t leading him down the wrong path at all and that brought me peace in my heart.

My roommate is a daughter oya and at the beginninh she was exhausting for me to live with her. She is too agressive, offensive and selfish yet here i am more calm, gentle and compassionate. But as i get to know her i understood the point of her. İts just her outside. İnside of her she is just a kid wants to protect herself and her loved ones. Yes she can be impulsive but she is doing these things only because of her stormy nature. She gets bored so quick, always shift her interests and being around her pushes me to realize facts about my life and change or cut the unserving things. When i understood her nature, i loved her more.

She was a bit upset because Oya is the guardian of the cemeteries, but cemeteries and death doesn't always mean bad by most religions outside of the Catholic sect. Cemeteries and death can be change which is the main domain and job of Oya. She is literally the wing of change. Anyways thank you for your series.

Osogbo is when that person has alot of negativity going on in they lives..

I actually love this because the “they look.. ODD” I DO!!! 😂 I have wrote it to being adhd but it is honestly because there is a world going on in my mind due to the spirits always being around. A lot of times when I am bored my default is to connect with spirits whether that be nature spirits, spirits or the land or those who have transitioned other people think it’s weird but depending on the spirit.. I was told my main head is Yemaya and I definitely know that and feel that whole heartedly 💙 however I’m also claimed as a daughter of Oya & Oshun … is that possible? I have all the characteristics of Yemaya/Oya and some of Oshun.

I'm very scared of myself sometimes... I attracted a demon, but before that I knew I was her child... something tells me to end my life and it has been getting hard holding on. I have my necklaces but if I get my warriors will it help my suicidal thoughts? I want to live...

Just take it one day and one step at a time and I promise you, it'll be ok. I don't know you , but if anybody hasn't told you they love you today then I love you sis!!! Hang in there!!!

@@asieloshunyeyeo I have tried professional help at 15, I am 22 now and none of the medication works. I will keep trying in my religious practices because doctors have failed me multiple times. I appreciate your response and caring ❤
