She is just amazing. Even an intake of air sounds so bloody good coming from her.

Emma Thompson destroys me in almost everything she does. She has been one of my very favorite actors of her generation since I saw "Sense and Sensibility for the first time when I was ten years old. I have nothing but respect and admiration for her.

Well, in this movie she is advocating states rights over parents. They use an extreme example, but the reality is they are taking kids away from parents now just simply based on their religious beliefs, when the child is perfectly healthy. This is the result of the Children's Act. It is disgusting.

She is not advocating anything - she is acting a part, and the words are given to her by the writer. The Children Act says the welfare of the child is paramount - it overrules anything else, even the parents' beliefs.

+Timothy No, it does not over-ride the beliefs of the state, which can change dramatically over time and even with one election. Their belief of what is best is paramount, whether that is true or not.

Up to a point, you're right, but it's not the state as an institution, it's the human judges who actually have to decide the cases. That, I think, is what the film is about. Therefore elections don't affect it, because judges are unelected (fortunately).

Okay, but can Stanely Tucci just be awarded an honorary Oscar for Best Supporting Actor (to Female Leads)? He can deifnitely hold his own as a lead. Yet when he is supporting, he manages to balance the chemistry and complement their on-screen presence in a way that seems rare to me. P.S. I'm not crying, you're crying.

I get what you mean. As a dude I appreciate it when women wear cosmetics but I also like it when they embrace their wrinkles, stretch marks, and a little bit of fat here and there. Natural women who have no insecurities are the most attractive and sexiest women to me.

@Joey Firstly Emma Thompson was nominated in 1995 for Best Actress in Sense and Sensibility and not 2008. Secondly, she was the only non American actress in that category that year. Her competition was Sharon Stone (Casino), Elizabeth Shue (Leaving Las Vegas), Meryl Streep (The Bridges of Madison County), and the winner Susan Sarandon (Dead Man Walking). Thirdly, she didn't win Best Adapted Screenplay with Ang Lee. Ang directed Sense and Sensibility but Emma Thompson wrote the screenplay herself. She is, to date, the only person to have won Oscars for acting and writing.

Look forward for a brilliant performance by godess actress Emma Thompson...

The book was great. Very thought provoking. I'm relieved it remained set in the UK and not in an American city and staring Julia Roberts.

It is a very strange and layered film Even the accompanying score is very Strong in it's own way. One of the most surprisingly thoughtful films I have ever seen. Watched it over and over again. Would prefer this Film over any comedy to refer a griving or mentally depressed friend. It is that blissful to watch.
