The important thing to remember is that as a back he needs to be able to run with the ball, pass it, recieve it, tackle and wrestle for the ball. The big difference between the sports, in addtion to how to run, how to tackle, how to be tackled and how to pass is that In rugby every player needs a much wider set of skills. LRZ regularly performed the tasks of linebackers, safties, wide reciever, running back and quarterback along with the occasional interlude as defensive or offensive tackle.

Fairly sure he got signed as a kick returner in order to exploit the new kick off rule change in the NFL. It plays out exactly like rugby which are his strengths. Once you get past the "wall" it's open ground to a TD. As you can see in the footage, he doesn't have many issues with that. Not sure how the NFL equipment will hinder him though. Wearing all that extra gear might slow him down.

LRZ would make a good kick receiver. You don't see it in the highlights, but in rugby, there's a lot of annoying ball tennis where one team will kick the ball away in the hope that the opposition will drop the ball and lead to a scrum. If LRZ was bad under a high ball, he wouldn't have made the grade. Hope LRZ can find a role with the chiefs and show off his skills.

Can catch a high ball, acceleration, hits stride after a step or two, has played in massive stadiums. Chiefs could have a legit kick returner. LRS is a useful player. But I can think of several dozen others who would offer far greater potential. If you include Rugby League (a similar but separate sport fielding thirteen players instead of fifteen which is where Jordan Mailata came from) then you could double that figure. I mean, a guy like Eben Etzebeth would be an elite player in just about every collision sport. But he's too old to be switching sports now.

He's big enough: just over 6' 3" tall and 194 lb, and has been clocked running 100m in 10.4 seconds from a crouching start, not from the starting blocks. In rugby he's also used to being tackled multiple times in a match by players up to about 6' 7" and 300+ lb - and that's without all the padding and helmets that the pampered and protected NFL players wear.

Also one more thing... The NFL is a different beast! There are some really, let's just call them, not so intelligent players that don't protect their heads. In rugby there's no helmets, in the NFL these players use their heads as a weapon. So can he take a full hit in the NFL, because in rugby, there's nothing protecting their heads, so they protect themselves.
