Lyrics:
Who doesn't know what I'm talking about
Who's never left home, who's never struck out
To find a dream and a life of their own
A place in the clouds, a foundation of stone
Many precede and many will follow
A young girl's dream no longer hollow
It takes the shape of a place out west
But what it holds for her, she hasn't yet guessed
She needs wide open spaces
Room to make her big mistakes
She needs new faces
She knows the high stakes

I grew up in Oklahoma. I was born the year 2000. My school played this every morning. We had multiple songs we would sing when we got there in the morning. This was one of the songs.

2023 and still lovin' these ladies. So many relatable songs.
I'm a 56 yrs. African American woman from Chicago and have been The Chicks fan for years. They have talent to burn and they also possess the big 3, Heart, Minds and Soouuul (a little Soul Train reference) . The only reason I put the previous statistics about myself on this comment is so that the Girls know that they reach far and wide. There is a reason why they are still standing, despite or maybe because of all they been through. The 3 of them are not just supremely gifted artists, they are also damn fine humans and astoundingly giving world citizens. You can't beat that with a stick. #TheChicksfanforlife

I was lucky enough to see Susan Gibbons play this song that she wrote in a small home concert a few days ago. Some friends of mine knew her and we drove down to meet with her and several other friends. She poured out her soul and told a story about the background of several of her songs as she introduced them. What a talent! Her songs touch the very fabric of everyday Americans and I'm a new fan. This is what I call optimistic 🎵
Every once in a while, not too often, I come back to this song. The day my mom died, she asked me to sit in her hospital room and sing this song to her for the last time. I remember trying to do it, but whatever came out of me was barely singing, i was just croaking out the lyrics. We'd always bonded over music, she loved showing me older songs from her youth that she loved. I've only sung this song twice since she passed, and both times I've choked up and could barely get the words out. Remembering that time in my life is painful, and this song brings me back to that day, that time. I can picture her more vividly than anything when I listen to this song. Cancer took her in one of the most painful ways imaginable. I hope she's found a form of peace, if she's anywhere out there. It's been 7 years but no matter how long, the grief never shrinks, all we can do is grow around it.
This hands down is my favourite all time song period. I think if i hear them sing it live i’ll have those screaming, jumping, crying, laughing moments that end up me looking like a total freak and I cannot WAIT for that to happen💓
Was riding on a Amtrak train in Montana when this came out and listening to this on a radio with headphones And with the wide open space& Montana clouds this song became a very fond memory.
This is good music ❤ my favorite... Chicks

Idk who "The Chicks" are but this song was done by The Dixie Chicks and thats what this song will forever be known for. With love from every country song listener out there.
I love this song so much because of her voice, Melody, meaning of lyrics, it's a story in itself. Instruments sound beautiful. This song touches my heart. Dixie chicks are one of my favorites. Kevin Papua New Guinea
Aww, they were so young, so bold, so blonde! I have always loved and admired The Chicks and always will. This was their first song that I heard and fell for, and have been a fan ever since. Wishing them all well!
This song ❤️ Brings me back to beach week in 1998! Glad these ladies are BACK! Fantastic music, always has been 🙏🏻💗
2020 and still listening to Dixie Chicks🙋♀️🔥🔥🔥.
I love this song by the chicks
My childhood right here!! My mom used to listen to a lot of Dixie chicks back in those days.
One of my absolute favorite songs. Reminds me of better times. 💘
I used to hang out with Susan Gibson, the writer of this song, in Amarillo, Texas around 1994 when she was with her band the Groobees. We used to hang at the Dennys after their shows.

Natalie Maines...also the girl that insulted the president during wartime...bad career choice. Great talent though

She was right. It was a stupid war for no good reason. The Dixie chicks had courage. Something President Bush and Cheney lacked.

When songs are put together perfectly, the results are like this. The voice overs during the chorus are genius.
The Country angels are the most beautiful Blondes, I've ever seen!!!

I am fiercely Patriotic, however I forgive Dixie chicks for Talkin bad about americas mistakes to other countries. The reason toby Kieth hates them. I forgive them because I've partied my ass off to these tunes

Did you serve my man? What makes you patriotic, 🤔 My brother's in arms and myself have served for the past 32 years and our boots are still laced up and ready to put it down for each other and country! From Mogadishu to Afghanistan we still ready to get down to the business! So I'm curious every time I hear someone say they are patriotic

So, are you saying that if you didn't serve, you can't be patriotic
I listen to them as long as I have my hearing and when thats gone I feel their rythm. I have choices and I choose those them.
This needs to play at my funeral or I’m not gonna die, love the Dixie chicks since day 1 ❤️
2022 ? Anybody🤟🏾
Just want to thank the girls for my memories. This CD was my ma’s absolute favorite, she played it in repeat for weeks when we were kids. I remember my sister and I actually hid it cause we were so tired of hearing the same songs (10-14 year olds aren’t gonna appreciate this music) and my mom bought the CD a second time. It’s not only comforting to hear this music since my ma passed on Christmas almost 13 years ago, but it’s super nice to watch the videos because everyone always said my mom looked exactly like Natalie. It was super comforting to see an older more recent version of Natalie in one of their more recent videos, it was almost like seeing my mom for the first time in 13 years. Thank you girls. Cowboy take me away will always be my favorite, and the cover of landslide which I chose to play at ma’s funereal because she adored it so much. If only I knew how much this band would comfort me back when I was a little 10 year old shit hiding their debut album or groaning every time my mom popped it in the CD player. There’s few things that can provide comfort when your mom dies, if anything, but Dixie chicks really gives me a warm hug when I need it sometimes
Why do i love these girls so much? From India, Kuki.
