My family lived in the Bukowina as Settlers under Maria Theresa for 100 years or more. German Swabians. The liberal ideals have never ever left us. The experience shaped us forever. We are forever part of Ukraine, Moldova, Romania. And Germanic. We will never forget this fundamental part of our history.

N-oi uita vreodată, dulce Bucovină, Geniu-ţi romantic, munţii în lumină, Văile în flori, Râuri resăltânde printre stânce nante, Apele lucinde-n dalbe diamante Peste câmpii-n zori. Mână doru-i tainic colo, înspre tine, Ochiul îmi sclipeşte, genele-mi sunt pline, Inima mi-i grea; Astfel totdeauna, când gândesc la tine, Sufletul mi-apasă nouri de suspine, Bucovina mea! !mazeltov!

I know that lots of Sefardic tunes were adopted to greek words; in fact i was at a concert of sefardic music from Thesalonika last night and several of the songs they played have versions in Greek and in Ladino. Sefardic and Ashkenazi Jews intermixed lots in the Ottoman empire/ Istanbul, whose first major influx of Jews were Sefards escaping Spain in 1491, went on to become a major klezmer centre- so that influence could also explain these similarities (not to disagree with anything you've written, just adding)

@@blakebennett5358 absolute spot on !!! Jews from all over the planet emigrated to Thessaloniki in the 15th century and remained there for nearly 5 centuries (unfortunately until the WW2). Most of the time they populated more than 50% of the whole city population. This incredible fusion of cultures, customs, languages, music, art accommodated Thessaloniki to become this unbelievable, inclusive of all, progressive city in the Balkans. What a fascinating era that must have been! Have a look in this link, it is full of real historic details and information en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_Jews_in_Thessaloniki
