🌸 The Cherry Orchard: Blossoming (2008) | Japanese movie [English subs] [HD]
Фильм және анимация
The Cherry Orchard: Blossoming (2008) is a remake/reworking of "The Cherry Orchard" (1990).
For English subtitles click the button. More information below...
While exploring the old schoolhouse within the grounds of her new school, Momo stumbles upon a room full of props and stage instructions for the Russian play The Cherry Orchard. The school's tradition of presenting an annual performance of the play has long been banned (due to an incident in the past). Momo decides to form a drama group in secret and stage a new production. History is repeating itself, and Momo finds herself at a crossroads.
A masterful and beautiful feelgood movie. The remake is a complete reworking of the story (a re-imagining) with a whole new cast of characters. It also borrows additional material and characters from the original manga (most notably the domestic scenes and the elder sister) which didn't appear in the original movie version.
The name Momo means peach, and her sister's name Anzu means apricot.
🌸 The Cherry Orchard collection
The Cherry Orchard [Sakura no sono] (1985-86) - original manga by Yoshida Akimi
The Cherry Orchard (1990) - directed by Nakahara Shun
The Cherry Orchard: Blossoming (2008) - remake directed by Nakahara Shun
Both movie versions had Japanese novelizations written following their release.
There have also been four theatrical stage productions in Japan (1994, 2007, 2009, 2011).

@@sareh505 Momo disagrees with the teacher that she isn't throwing away her life (by giving up the violin) because she has a longer time ahead of her to explore and find what she wants to do. It also shows her independent streak because she refuses to be tied to what's expected of her. Her heart wasn't in the violin, but her passion will soon be ignited with the Cherry Orchard play, her time to blossom.
Very good film. Finally a winner where there's no bullies, violence, assaults, or a Cheboygan CEO falling for a pauper office girl! This one's about making real memories and lasting friendships for life. I wish we could have seen at least part of the Play?

Me too, I love that difference. The original one is the special one for me, and I think it's by far the most impressive. But Blossoming is impressive in its own way and I find it more enjoyable to watch sometimes, if I'm in the mood for a 'feelgood movie'. The scene where they all meet up at the outdoor auditorium is so emotionally uplifting. I'll be adding another movie soon - Tomie (1999). I actually uploaded it this morning but realized I'd made a mistake with the subtitles at the very start, and it was hardsubbed (subtitles burnt into the image), so I had to delete it. I should have it fixed and reuploaded tomorrow. It may or may not be to your personal taste but I think it's a great movie.

I agree, Anne Watanabe (Aoi) stands out with her distinctive qualities and elegance, and it's a very well cast movie. My favourite two are TERASHIMA Saki who plays Akabo-san (the one who likes Aoi) and KIKUKAWA Rei who plays Kayo (the teacher who helps them with the play). I really like both their characters and performances most.

A HOPEFUL LESBIAN REMAKE TO THE 1990 ORIGINAL FILM BASED ON THE LEGENDARY MANGA & ANNE WATANABE WAS THERE AS A BEAUTIFUL TOMBOY STUDENT, THAT DESERVES A KOREAN-JAPANESE K-MOVIE ADAPTATION. 👭🌈🌸🎻🎷💗😌
@Ruby_Kang
Жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed the movie, Gregorio. I have to respectfully disagree with you regarding a Korean adaptation though. I don't think a non-Japanese version would work so well. The symbolic meaning of sakura (cherry blossom) within Japanese culture makes this a very Japan-centric story. The story is about youth and the spirit of the cherry blossom, with the two themes intrinsically entwined. That symbolic view of sakura is specific to Japan and underpins the whole movie. Without that association the story would lose its poetic heart. If it was just about students putting on a play, or a simple romance story, that would be a different kind of drama. Although I can appreciate that you would like to see a Korean version.

What is it with this obsession the Japanese have with high school? There must be hundreds of Japanese movies about high school. I just don't get it. It's as if they think life begins with high school and ends after high school.
@Ruby_Kang
Жыл бұрын
The focus isn't really High School but the period of late youth, coming-of-age drama. It's a template which allows storytellers to explore fundamental human experience (without characters being assigned to occupational roles within society, which is more limited) and reflect upon natural growth of mind and emotions, while also incorporating comment on the wider society as a whole. There is so much scope within that. The Japanese do this kinda thing so well, which is why some of their best movies/dramas are High School based. Whether it's a romance, self-discovery drama, horror movie or motivational life lessons drama, the High School template (or rather the transitional period of late youth) is very effective in telling a potent story with depth of character and a myriad of interesting themes.

@@lisaseokjinbts2901 True, they are very popular too. The growth of modern manga probably has something to do with it.
