I still can't justify whats better, the music or the video - they fit together so perfectly. Came back many times here for years. Many thanks to all artists!!!
The message is very beautiful, when you pass in front of a trophy case, for example. Every item in there has a story. And most of us don't even realize it. The video is pure art!

@Cool - flawless editing that makes you believe the actress and the person doing the dancing are the same person - the juxtaposition of badass music to a sport that is wildly considered feminine and therefore often "less" - the use of the track as somehow both diegetic and non-diegetic (it's not really clear if this is the track the girl in-story actually performs to) - the emotional narative of the video lines up with the intensity of the music, involving the viewer in a contest they otherwise wouldn't care about - things like headspace of the maincharacter (distracted), conflict (hurt ankle), motivation ("mom??") get established with sipmle shots, telling an entire story about a teenage athlete and her family over not even 6 minutes - all around solid moviemaking -some bonzo on the internet: "dumb video...lazy"

I love the wholesome father/daughter relationship she seems to have with her trainer. She seems to care little about her actual parents- the father seems to care and root for her but she is still indifferent, as if he was trying way too hard; then I don't know if her reaction at her mother's arrival with her boyfriend is one of feeling reassured or rather cotemptuous indifference like "fuck I cannot fail in front of this hag". Whatever the case, the thing is the one sharing her struggle and joy is the trainer, and eventually the team girls. Quite hearthwarming actually.

This is beautiful post, e.
This is the most poignant music video I have ever seen. She has endured years of physically grueling practice and training. Her opponent is cruel. She is competing with an injured ankle. Her divorced mother shows up late with a boyfriend. She suffers an extremely painful injury, yet performs perfectly through intense pain. Then we see that ultimately, this moment of incredible sacrifice and triumph goes completely unnoticed and is quickly forgotten. :( (I love the photo of the Chemical brothers in the trophy case)
@louiethepitt
7 жыл бұрын
that exact moment of Sacrifice...the "All-In" moment...that is why I love this video...do or do not...there is no try....its perfect...you got the whole backstory...some people don't even notice...this is what separates successful people from the 80%....hard work, ignore the distractions and full 100% commitment...Do or Die trying mentality.

now I don't see the Blonde Girl as Cruel...but I see there that vibe that there was some rivalry there and that the Blonde Girl was at the Top...always wining and that she was the Favorite, expected to win...nobody expected nothing special from the competition...it was mere formality for the Blonde Girl---and from nowhere our Underdog changes the Status Quo

@ulalaFrugilega

I was searching for words myself, you nailed it. Only about the end, I'd go even further: the moment of victory was all there was to gain, then it turns into a bunch of crap, which is the trophies. Any second I expected her to show up, wrecked by anorexia... And that moment of triumph ... I'd say the father, left by his wife, was a merciless force driving his daughter to these extremes - it was his moment of triumph even more than hers. Some month and a re-watch later, I venture as far as to suggest, that the girl is thoughtlessly used by the father, and almost forgotten by her mother. A tragic figure with an empty triumph. The title "elektrobank" does not really sound cosy, either.
4:00 onwards. THAT break, THAT physical buzz, even though acted as it is, still gives me a massive effort buzz.

@@omnirhythm I’ve also listened to a lot of things in my life and I can say that the Chemical Brothers were pioneers of electronic music in a conceptual way, not only made for dancefloors like preety much of the 80’s electronic bands and DJs had done. I can affirm that DYOH is the first electronic conceptual album ever released. We can mention Prodigy, Daft Punk, Boards of Canada and many other bands that also made that, but the Chemicals were one step ahead in terms of production and concept. And, of course, the unparelled and unique (big) beats that only them were able to create. Daft Punk’s Homework, for example, was super hyped in the 90’s, but it did’t age well, so they were pushed to make pop music. And The Prodigy, which I’m a big fan, was the “hardcore” electronic. None of them were able to create monumental moments in the tracks and make such a variety of songs, from psychedelic ballads to the Beatles-esques Setting Sun and Let Forever Be. DYOH is an sonic experience that still (and will) sound fresh in the future. Sorry for the long text, I just had a smoke and revisited the old and good Dig Your Own Hole. Cheers
I get the feeling that when the Chemical Brothers made this their music video for this song, they were fully intending for a sports channel to use this as a promo for them or the BBC to use it in a promo for their sports coverage, with every sports covered by the channel in the promo. As the tune plays, it cuts from football to rugby to tennis to rally to Formula 1 to cricket.
