Great video! I’m trying to find a bench grinder that is quiet to use as a motor for a tennis ball thrower for my dog. Judging by 3:44 this seems to be the quietest I’ve found and one of the cheapest to boot.

Yup, you need a spacer. Easy to make. Or just take the cover off. But you do that at your own risk.

Update, I worked on it some more by taking it completely apart. Stuck the shaft on my lathe and found the right end where the stone mounts to be actually 4 or so thousands off. So basically it was not machined properly and is actually crooked to the shaft. So nothing can make it straight. Well, I did by adding thin cardboard to straighten out the wheel to an acceptable flatness. So good luck .

Correction: The bulb can be turned on without turning on the grinder. I got one myself a few days ago. I thought something was wrong when you said the bulb couldn't be turned on without turning on the motor, because sometimes you need to check the object you work on to make sure how to work on it. You don't have to turn on the motor just to turn on the bulb.

@@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ I got you. If you have some 1/2" washers lying around you can use them to shim it so the wire wheel is centered in the guard and will tighten down correctly. If not I ordered the forney 72750 wire wheel and it fit just fine. Good luck!

What's the correct one?

Not the cheapest medium duty 6 inch. Ryobi and Bauer each sell one that's a few bucks cheaper.
