The Cheapest Foldable: Tecno Phantom V Flip Hands-On

Ғылым және технология

The Tecno Phantom V Flip is a new clamshell foldable with an early bird price in select markets about equivalent to US$650, which would put it at the lowest price of any foldable phone.
There's a lot to like, including the premium leather finish and a 6.9-inch OLED screen.

That is a Samsung thing, they started it off and others followed thinking Samsung had the right idea. Of course, they are now realising Samsung got that wrong, and all folds now have wider displays and hoping we will see all flips move wider. No idea why Samsung went with this bad aspect ratio. Probably Samsung are not the best trendsetters?

It is true the added flash to support the front facing selfie camera is a bit redundant because you can clearly take selfies with the rear camera. The rear display assist in taking selfies with the rear Cameras so yes it's a bit redundant. But I guess it will invariably be useful to do zoom meetings, content creation and other useful stuff. 😎💯💪🏾👍🏾. The fromt flash may not be quite redundant because the rear display might be a little too small to use comfortably with the rear Cameras. So it kinda do make some sense and it will be useful to a good degree.

The only negatives are will the screen last forever. I have a Samsung Fold 3 that I sold last December to a friend of mine and last month, the inner left screen had a black patch. And the other negative, I think all folds and flips doesn't have internal storage for micro SD cards. For me who takes a lot of videos and pics, that is a deal breaker. I can't fathom why anyone would consider paying a measly $650 for that phone when the superior Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 is already available on the market for just $800. I mean, seriously? I bought mine a mere six weeks ago for $840, and it's worth every penny. Let's talk about the specifications, shall we? First of all, the Samsung Z Flip5 weighs a mere 8 grams less than the alternative you mentioned. But that's just the tip of the iceberg. The Z Flip5 boasts the incredible Gorilla Glass Victus 2, while the other device settles for some unbranded glass. Who even knows if that stuff is reliable? When it comes to durability, the Z Flip5 is unparalleled with its IPX8 rating, ensuring it can withstand water and dust. As for the other device, it's not even officially registered or tested. Talk about a gamble! Let's move on to the display. The Z Flip5 features a magnificent Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen with HDR10 support and a whopping 1750 nits of brightness. Meanwhile, the Phantom V Flip settles for a lower-grade LTPO AMOLED display with a mere 1000 nits. Plus, the Z Flip5 offers a higher pixel density, resulting in a crisper and more vibrant visual experience. But here's the real kicker-the outer screen. The Z Flip5 boasts a larger, fully functional outer screen that allows you to operate your phone, run apps, and enjoy its full functionality. In contrast, the Phantom V Flip presents you with a laughable 1.3-inch screen that's practically useless, serving only as a glorified camera viewfinder or a platform for displaying pet gifs. Seriously, who needs that? Now let's talk about what truly powers these devices. The Z Flip5 is equipped with the cutting-edge 4nm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, widely recognized as one of the best and most powerful processors in the market. On the other hand, the Phantom V Flip settles for the lackluster 6nm Dimensity 8050 chip, which pales in comparison to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in every possible way. Oh, and let's not forget about memory. The Z Flip5 features the lightning-fast UFS 4.0 technology, while the Phantom V Flip is stuck with the outdated UFS 3.1. It's like comparing a sports car to a horse-drawn carriage. Even the connectivity options differ significantly. The Z Flip5 supports tri-band WiFi and the latest direct technology, while the Phantom V Flip still clings to the outdated dual-band technology. And don't even get me started on Bluetooth. The Z Flip5 boasts Bluetooth 5.3, while the Phantom V Flip lags behind with Bluetooth 5.1. It's like comparing a rocket ship to a bicycle! Oh, and let's not forget about the USB ports. The Z Flip5 comes with the lightning-fast Type-C 3.2, while the Phantom V Flip settles for the archaic Type-C 3.0. It's like comparing a Formula 1 car to a horse-drawn carriage once again. Now, I'll admit, the Phantom V Flip does have a slight advantage when it comes to battery capacity. It sports a 4000mAh battery and supports 45W charging, while the Z Flip5 settles for a 3700mAh battery with 25W charging. But let's face it-the Z Flip5's advanced technologies and efficient chip make up for that difference in battery capacity. It's like having a luxury car with incredible fuel efficiency. And one final point to drive it home-the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 will undoubtedly receive more Android updates in the future, ensuring that you stay up to date with the latest features and security patches. Can the same be said for the other device? I highly doubt it. So, my friend, for a mere $150-200 difference, it's a no-brainer. I would absolutely recommend investing in the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5. It's a powerhouse of a phone that outshines its competition in every imaginable way. Don't settle for less when you can have the best! Thank you, Ben, for your insightful review ❤.
