    The 3.4 is actually zero interference so if you snap a belt its no big deal. Good video as always!

    Just as a heads up, that 3.4 is supposed to get a dual electrode spark plug. The 3.4 uses a waste spark ignition ignition system. The plugs fire on the exhaust stroke too when the cylinder that they are paired with is on it's compression stroke. Since the plugs fire twice as often, the dual prong makes them last as long as a single prong that is not installed in a waste spark application. Also, It's a non-interference engine, so pistons cant kiss valves in the event that the timing belt snaps

    I think your suppose to use twin prong spark plugs on the 3.4 but I’ve heard guys say it doesn’t matter… there is a sticker from Toyota on the engine… love the build so far

    OE plugs from the dealer are only a buck and some change more than the NGK Type R plugs.. I love NGK but you only get 17K miles before they have to be changed out. OE plugs are still like new at a 100k.. I just changed the factory plugs in my 2005 4runner 3 yrs ago at 235k. I know they was original because i got my rug from an old couple that bought it new and always serviced at a toyota dealership. The My Toyota Record shows they was never changed out! I gained 2 extra miles per gallon with the new plugs if that says anything about the OE plugs!

    This motor is non interference which means if the timing belt breaks you actually won’t contact valves which is nie but definitely still don’t want that breaking on you. I just did my timing belt on my motor! Keep up the good work!

  • @jaromnord8325
    @jaromnord8325 Жыл бұрын

    I’ve also heard that the oem spark plugs on these motors make a little bit of a difference over the NGK brand. Specifically for this Toyota motor. Something with the dual electrode keeps it burning the fuel more efficiently

  • @tylermartelle7041

    The 5VZ is such a beast you can just let the timing belt uninstall itself and the valves won't meet the pistons.

    Timing chains break, tensioners break, it’s a lot easier to change a belt than a chain. Both of my roommates had their timing chains break before 170k miles. One was a Colorado, the other was a Cobalt.
