They all did such a great job to get up to 28k, but Marilyn (who was also the biggest contributor to the pot) really put the team on her back for this one. Not only did she dominate in general, but that "Eleanor of Aquitaine" answer was the difference between winning and losing.

30 correct, 2 pass, 3 wrong with a speed of 17.5: this is Paul's fastest chase and the third fastest overall. Much like the other 28-step game, the team got three pushbacks (barely enough)!

I agree Aces. I saw a few minor slips that cost the catch for Sinha: 1. Pass on mule a half second earlier 2. Saying "eyebrows" a second earlier 3. Pausing a half second less before "triangular". This saved time would have nullified by the extra time needed to say "Adidus Domenai", but the extra second at the end would have been used, leading to a buzzer beater. Let's say the team gets "oxygen" right. That would have been nullified by the pushback leading to 29 scored with 3.5 seconds left. Suppose they get the pushback by saying "20th century" instead of "19th century". This leads to a catch on the buzzer.

In Season 9, Paul was set a target of 26 steps and he mentioned this episode where a team scored 28 and he was able to get to 27, which gave him the belief that he could chase down that target. This chase. A masterpiece. Honestly. Simply amazing. But basilic vein (which I believe is in the arm) or even Anno Domini would’ve caught them. Paul was so close to chasing down 28, even with the mistakes. How he caught up that time, an enigma. But that team - Marilyn especially - wowzers. I could not have gotten Eleanor of Aquitane at that speed, I had to pause it there to think of the answer. Amazing performance, job well done, only Angela in the other 28 step chase ever did better than that. But chlorophyll vs oxygen was free. On the other hand, “Best performance by a Marilyn since ‘Some Like it Hot’”. One-liner if there ever was one. And “They’re never gonna get Eleanor of Aquitane…a dagger went through my heart,” lmao. One day I gotta get on the chase (and lose awfully).

Too close:- to lose a chase on 28 steps would have been a bitter pill to swallow for the team:- hard to deny that the questions were Paul's though. I believe that unless a team can rack up a total of 30 steps, (not sure it's been done), there is no comfortable guarantee you have got it in the bag, as this clip shows. It all comes down to the chasers on the day, some rubbish teams win and some superb performances still lose.

Apparently Israel's version of the chase had a 31 step final chase, and had a 29 step catch. I believe both are the international records.

@@thisismarcjohnson Let me correct myself. He said "it's a bird" & "it's . . ." on the last question. He also had a few times where he slowed down, of which one of those was avoidable with more focus. Had the Sinner Man: 1. Not said one of those "it is a"|'s 2. went through with his answer for the last question through the buzzer (he said "it" before the clock hit zero, though fatigue would have forced a judges decision on whether that one-third of one second pause nulled an otherwise valid buzzer beater); or 3. Paused for a second and a quarter for one less time than he did . . . the team then would have been caught. The Sinner Man also lost a full second by not stating the proper first name on the "Peter Perth" question in his first response. He also said "AD." not paying attention to the question. Both the team and the chaser made a century counting mistake for something done in 1900. This is a forgivable error. Nevertheless, the Sinner Man lost out on plenty of chances to save that last 1.5 seconds he needed to catch. I am real stickler for details . . . You have to REALLY EARN a victory to impress me. It may have been the chaser's best Final Chase, but it was not the best game play he could have brought. I also think that he did an intentional pass.
